No Man's Sky: Foundation Update (v1.1)

Before the update you had two save states, current & previous, but only one save slot so it always loaded your latest save. The first time you launch the game after the update it asks which mode you want to start and Normal mode has the date of your last save. Each mode has their own save slot with two saves i imagine. I continued my Normal save with a mind to dabble in Creative after a while so i don't know about the other two modes.

Right. Thanks for explaining!

So what's the point of the game now? It was reach the center but now it's chill on your own planet, build a base and farm shit?

Do Hello Games even know?

They have added a bunch of stuff and explained how it's done but they haven't really explained why I should do it.

The point of the game was always just adventuring. Going on a journey. Seeing cool places in a cool, huge universe. The centre is a MacGuffin.

Whether that's your bag or not is the question. For plenty of people it is, evidently.

so, wait, if they locked chrysonite farming behind a quest, then base building isn't something you can do, if you want, it's necessary! and please don't lock away shit I could do for the last 50 hours I've already wasted...

and speaking of wasted time, I'm now looking for some stupid cactus, which will unlock other crap that I need to waste time on till I can unlock the ability to do a thing I could before the patch, yay.

also, that's not photo mode, it's turning your HUD off, with an obnoxious warning as if I'm about to brick my console. holy shit, this game!

Lol, are you for real?

Is there a Creative mode that bypasses the grind? Sure. It's good if you want to TRY the new features. It lets you build things without having to worry about the resources but what else can you do?
What is the point in having a Freighter if you have unlimited resources? What stops you from going straight to the centre of the Galaxy if you have unlimited resources?

Yes, as a demo of the new features it's great, but it in my opinion is not nearly fleshed out enough to be entertaining on its own.

New features are a step in the right direction, but you still have to fix the main problem the game has: the gameplay loop is boring and monotonous as hell.

I wasn't talking about that.

Your opinion that it's not good enough is besides the point
You're talking about the gameplay loop when i NEVER was talking about thing.

Creative mode , removes the gameplay loop and give you unlimited ressources to build , but you're arguing that the gameplay loop is boring and it's your opinion.
It's obvious that creative mode is a super easy mode to explore without bothering to survive.. if this mode is not for you , then don't play it and start survival.

Both of my answer are backed by facts not opinions

Want to not have to grind ? There is a mode for that. It's called "creative mode" for a reason !

I've noticed that when talking to aliens that can be hired for the base, we can understand them perfectly, but all the pre-patch aliens still require us to figure it out and learn the language. This seems a bit of an oversight, or an issue to fix at least. If we don't know any of the alien languages, how would we know we could hire them for our base?

Hope that gets fixed.

EDIT: Perhaps there should be a new alien to hire - a translator. Someone whom has learned all the alien languages.

I guess the aliens looking for work have learned to speak human languages?

Is there a tutorial on how to get started with the new features? I'm a dad and 1000 other things depending on the day, before being a gamer lol.

Well at the rate it takes to learn the full languages its probably so people can just use it. Plus if you take the Atlas path there is that one alien who can speak full english so there could be some out there.

The update doesn't fix the issues I have with the game, it adds a layer of gameplay that

a) I wouldn't have wanted in the first place

and

b) Just compounds some of the issues I already had.

The gameplay loop hasn't changed.

If that's tunnel vision, then guilty as charged.

I can understand. I really enjoy the game, but if you don't like the gameplay loop, then the update isn't going to change that. If anything, it might make it worse for some since the grind is even more prevalent.

I enjoy the gameplay loop, although it still has a ton of flaws. I'm looking forward to the continued updates though and curious to see what the game is like in a year.

Haven't played NMS but from all i have seen, i see it as a Space Minecraft. So the "what do i do" thing seems no problem for people who like that. Some People just fly/explore around and chill. I'm going to buy it down the road to just do exactly that but i have to finish other stuff first (games, TV series, books).

If they keep adding stuff, this could be getting really good and addictiong in the coming future.

There needs to be more building options and mp for if to really start doing s Minecraft thing.. but I have to wonder if that's ultimately the direction they're now going in

I have a feeling that the next major update will be mp support

Glad to see the game is getting better. Just shows that it shouldn't have launched when it did, but I hope they stick with it and make it great.
Has the potential to be a very cool relaxing game, or a tense one in survival mode.

Will wait for another big update before buying, though!

Very much so.

After this update, I am hopeful that there maybe an update in the future that's changes my opinion.

Glad you're enjoying it though.

The update is great. But curiously I can't access to the discoveries of the planets I've been to since the update. Button does nothing.

I think you have to build it again, but you get all the resources back.
Thanks, makes sense.

Wait, I hired a guy but now I can't find my base anymore lol.
EDIT: oh alright the icon was hidden behind another planet

I guess the aliens looking for work have learned to speak human languages?
The first one I met said something like "I'm a researcher/scientist so don't be surprised if I know your language"

Over at the subreddit some guy found evidence of a buggy. Not sure if already mentioned in here. He even imported the model of four tires and a panel showing an animation of the buggy rotating.

Sorry for mobile link. Sorry if already shared. Sorry if mind blown!

Looks like you're also stuck in the same boring gameplay loop of just not getting (or ignoring) what I'm trying to say! Ohh well, maybe the next update fixes it.

Oh god, that's incredible.

At this point, i know better than to take promises from Sean Murray at face value.

Yellow titanium crystals now require an Advanced Mining Laser to break. Anyone have any idea on what that requires? My fully upgraded 24 slot multi tool is no longer up to the task.

The slower scanner recharge on the surface is annoying me most about the changes I think. Mostly because tracking those last few animals to complete my last couple planets is slightly more annoying.

Oh and destroying my stacks of items like micro density fabric in my suit inventory on patch update was uncool.

And I used to get away with just carrying plutonium in my inventory for recharging stuff but now I need t9 for life and plutonium for laser. More inventory juggling.

But oh well on the whole the changes are really good.

I'll believe it when I see it.

For the time being I'm waiting for a patch that adds Multiplayer support, the wildlife seen in the trailers, underground digging, ship individuality, boats and generally the missing futures.

Super dumb question, but I can't remember how to get to the galactic map when I'm in space. Wasn't it D-pad down before?

PS4.

I don't think it will ever have realtime MP support, nor do i think they ever intended for it to.

Ghosts or messages maybe.

I really hope they don't focus on multiplayer at all. I want the next big patch to focus even more on content, and on making the behaviour of NPC's, ships and animals more dynamic. The one reason I would want this game for is to see cool things happen.

To be fair, I thought the game was broken when I wasn't seeing any prompts and I had forgotten I had turned photo mode on.

Really excited to play again. Woke up early to play before work!

This would make the most lore-sense I guess. I'm happy with that as an explanation.
The character/story kinda mentions that too. Something along the lines of "is good that it speaks your language so is easier to hire", so is not like it was fully speaking english for no reason.

That. XD

I've thought for a long time ghosts is what they intended for NMS. Murray's most vague and irritating MP-confirmation-like statements made it sound like a Souls-style ghost system.
