The Game Awards 2016 Thread: Kojima Time Featuring The Kojimas

Worst speech. How can a fucking competitive multiplayer game have a message? Embarrassing.

It has a backstory, it has quite a diverse cast of characters, there's some sort of plot (to my understanding).

But I suppose you can just handwave it all away as a "fucking competitive multiplayer game".

how did other humans and turians and stuff get ahead of the andromeda crew

the whole "you are a plan B to keep a small fragment of humanity alive" seems kind of weird if you just keep running into milky way sentient life everywhere in a new galaxy

The Nexus - It left quite a bit before the ARK ships.

also,

Frakking 10/10 gameplay presentation..... Based BioWare is back, let's go!

I really don't play shooters anymore, I haven't since Halo 3, but Overwatch hooked me and got a solid 80 hours out of me. I would have picked something different personally but great job Blizzard.

Don't worry Blizzard knew people like you exist and put out very heavy handed trailers to spell it out clearly to appeal to the people who just want cutscenes.

So unlocking stuff with in-game currency you don't have to pay real money or are microtransactions now?

You realize basically every microtransaction-driven mobile and/or free-to-play game does this, right? It's like, the defining way this stuff works in most games these days. You can technically earn in-game currency to buy stuff but it's enough of a grind that people are motivated to just buy it for cash instead.

GOTY is correct, but DOOM is the runner-up.

Can we talk about how half the theater was empty? Is that typical for TGA?

LMAO at the people acting like story heavy games don't normally totally fucking dominate these things.

Seriously, the reason DOOM and Overwatch are getting so much praise these days is that they don't focus on cinematic modern-game design bullshit, hell DOOM even makes fun of it. There's a time and a place for it but come on.

Congrats to Overwatch. It's not my personal GOTY (The microtransactions disqualify it) but it's a damn good game.

No MvC4, no new Batman, two Telltale announcements, no awards for Titanfall 2 and Bosman was on advertisement duty.

See ya next year, TGAs.

Who thought MvC4 would be announced here. That's totes going to be at the PSX keynote or the Capcom Cup.

Maybe don't put the deadline for your Game of the Year nominations one month before the year is actually over?

Yeah honestly I think February of the following year is the best time for the awards and such. Last year is still fresh but it gives time for the Honeymoon Period of games to wear off so they can be looked at under a more critical lens.

It was worth it for Andromeda and watching [some of] Gaming-side GAF make fools of themselves, especially over the musical performances.

Also, I liked how the Action nominees were nothing but shooters and the GOTY nominees only had one non-shooter.

These games awards were... less good than last year I feel. Some of the world premieres were great, but MY GOD the corporate whoring.

Like, holy shit, Kyle Bosman, what happened to you? Are you SURE you don't want in on the Easy Allies Patreon if you need money that bad?

Wait, Bosman does take ANY of the Allies Patreon money? Why?

There is an argument that can be made regarding if Overwatch was even the best MP shooter to come out this year to begin with but regardless it has been a favorite of mine easily.

What is the appeal of Keighley? Everything i see him on has this same cringey/try-hard/shilly vibe, it infects nearly every moment. I thought this show was a new low.
