Obscure to the fans of these games no. If you bought MVC1-3 characters that have appeared aren't going to be obscure to you.

But to everyone else? Yeah I could see the argument for just about anyone really.
Even Arthur could fall into that bill now. Yeah he's a gaming legend, but he also hasn't been very big in a long time. He's no pac-man. If you're pushing for casuals, a lot of the capcom roster is a bit "Who are these guys".

Well Capcom dont make as many games as they use to for the past decade, so most of there roster would be characters you havent seen in a long time.

But Arthur and quite a few of these characters have made a solid gaming impact in their era, so they still "matter" in a game like blah blah vs Capcom

Spencer, Arthur, Haggar and Firebrand are the only ones that come to immediate mind. Hsien-Ko, Wesker and Nemesis aren't exactly obscure due to franchise association. Amaterasu is arguable.

"Not necessarily" from marvel 2 doesn't mean they werent in 2. It's a weird way of wording it, either youre a vet of both or not. I took it to mean he was referring to 3 but it doesnt mean they weren't in to.

We need Ryce to clarify.

  • Eurogamer mentioned Rocket & Groot separately, whereas Polygon just mentioned Groot alone. They'll likely be separate characters.
  • If they're using the MCU as reference, the Ant-Man of MvC4 will likely be Scott Lang.
  • As much as like Gamora, I'm not sure if she'd get in over Star-Lord (personal Star-Lord bias aside).
  • I'd also throw in Ms. Marvel to even things out, & whoever would match her on the Capcom side.

I could make that work. Not the hypest roster for me personally. But I wouldn't be mad with that. Like the little touches in the background.

Of course. I'm not denying their impact. Nor am I trying to sound like "Obscure characters should be cut". Just saying a lot of the capcom roster at this point is indeed that to the general public really I feel.

Me and my friends don't follow FGC stuff. But even we picked up Spencer to use that special.
Nothing more satisfying than ending a match with it.

If it's an obscure vet who was in both games then there really is no other character that fits the bill other than Tron. It seems like way too direct of a hint to me if that were the case.

If he is. The reveal thread is gonna be a lot of "Who?" & "Why?". He would at least be an interesting character to play as since he can fly around. But Firebrand kinda already has that handled.

So unless they give him something hype like spencer. I think he'd be the first character a majority would agree shouldn't be in.

I wouldn't be too sure.
That dread looks as bad as it is, would technically be his most iconic look now if you wanted use sales as a metric.
 
To be honest, a lot of Capcom's characters were/are relatively obscure. Getting worked up that a veteran is returning seems a little... Silly, even for this thread. I mean, there's only so many possibilities, especially if the character is restricted to MvC3.

Guess I don't have much of a problem with the moveset, but if the rumors persist of a smaller roster he's just gonna stick out for me. It also doesn't help that his dread look might get in over and I'm not a fan.

Who knows though, if he sticks around he may become MvC's own Captain Falcon.

On marvel side i'd like to see She-hulk stay.
Best Theme and she was a lot of fun once you figured her out at least for me.
Also we always need more female characters.

It's hard to have hype moments when you get nerfed into oblivion.

Ultimate She Hulk is a fucking tragedy. Normals nerfed to hell, slide ruined, TAC glitch removed but here, you can have a useless lamppost!
 
If the MCU push is likely and the casual push as well. I wonder if the roster will have characters that appeal to japan. This probably won't have an arcade release over there, and with the declining console sales I wonder if they'd want to use space for a series that really never took off in the west.

Despite apcom being a japanese developer. MvC has always felt like it was a big push for westerners over anyone else. with a lot of the selection prior.
Outside of like MVC1 but even then you could argue at the time they worked.
 
Are we really considering Spencer an "obscure" pick? I mean, maybe he's not as relevant now, but when MvC3 was coming out he still had an entire game on the way. His franchise is about as obscure as every other recently dormant Capcom franchise, which is like most of them besides Street Fighter, RE, DR, and Monster Hunter, and Spencer as a character is still pretty popular and wouldn't really be much of a stretch even in a limited roster. I'm not buying that at all.
