FFXV's future updates adjust chapters, add cutscenes, add playable characters, more

Yeah, that's why I wish the story had ended at Leviathan, and extra dev time had gone into an open world for Accordo instead of the rest of the game. They could then pick it up with FFXV-2, and even XV-3 if they needed to. That worked out just fine for Mass Effect.
Nah, don't take my
last camping tears
away.

The whole point of Tabata coming in and rebooting the game was so they wouldn't have sequels.

— When I spoke to Nomura previously, he had mentioned a plan to release FFXV in segments. Is that concept still progressing now?

Tabata: We do not currently plan on releasing in segments. As director that was something I was concerned with because I thought it was important to complete it as my own title.

Ha I knew they were willing to improve the story. The game's story is a mess right now cause they obviously had to release by the release date, but they also obviously care a lot of the product. Totally understand why people find this stupid and crazy but for me I want this game to be amazing and I rather them fix it post release than to them not fix it at all.

I liked the game, but I doubt any adjustments that they make to the story will save it from the mess that it was. Adding one or more cutscenes might make certain parts clearer and might be a nice touch, but I don't feel like I will have missed out on much as a Day-1 player.

90 hours, i even got it before the release date so don't go there. The game is a mess in every single thing you do.
I'd like to have you guys free time and willpower to play more than xx hours of a game I hate.
It's not like you cant finish the main story in like 20 hours, I did it in like 35~ and sure took my time to do it. If I just wanted to be done with the game I would've rushed much faster.

"This other game from a totally different time does is somewhat incomplete too! How dare you be mad at FFXV only?? Why aren't you mad that this other game X years ago??!"

They're not gonna have a sequel, and the story isn't changing. They just really need to flesh out the game because if you've played through the whole thing (just finished last night) you can see there's a lot of potential.

Add Ifrit and Bahamut as available summons to use. Explorable Tenebra and Cartartica, few more cutscenes towards the end, opening up the World of Ruin even just the Leide area.. etc. These are things that is, data wise, already loaded in the game so it shouldn't be that hard to do..

And I think the state of the story and gameplay from Altissia onwards is now proof this was a bad idea. But hindsight is great I guess. Here's hoping they learn from this for XVI.

Nothing wrong with sequels. I'll take quality over quantity any day, and the fan following Mass Effect developed for the world and its characters is a good indication that it'd work well for Final Fantasy. I mean, Versus XIII/XV managed to hold a community together for an entire decade before it even released =P

Damn, should have waited to play it after all. No way I'm going through it all again.

Well if you had a back up at Chapter 9, it'll probably take you 4-5 hours max to finish the game again.

This is awesome. They aren't fixing anything because there's nothing objectively broken, they're just making adjustments based on feedback.

The only downside is... well... I hope you have another 20gb of space free on your PS4.

Yup, What people who haven't played the game need to realize is that as it stands the story very rarely cuts-away from what is happening to the main party. As a result when something happens and they aren't there on the scene when it does. you only get to see the aftermath or hear about what's gone on.

What they appear to be doing is adding stuff in to fill in the most obvious blanks with gameplay/extra cs. That being said, the major beats of the story are perfectly followable as is.

Not sure what they are going to do with chapter 13 to be honest, I presume they just gonna nerf the difficulty hard as its kinda important from an exposition and character standpoint, so they can't shorten it too much.

Personally I'd rather them work on the presentation of parts of CH. 9. Because some of it looks very rough compared to the rest of the game.

How long is this going to take though?

I still really love this game but I was stunned at how linear it became after you know what. Like, wow. Also can't believe how bland and rushed the
train station and Marlboro dungeon
are compared to what you did before.

The story is weird. Cutscenes just, like, happen and they're over before you know it.

The game is complete. The fact that they're listening to some complaints about a particular character and chapter and are interested in addressing those complaints does not make the game incomplete.

That said, if you want the definitive experience of just about any game now, you don't buy it at launch. You wait a year or two until all the DLC and patches are done, and then buy it.

That's where I stand on it too and honestly I'm a bit surprised on the reactions here. I will say though that what they are doing is probably my limit in regards to tweaking a SP campaign post launch.

Its like the game still isn't finished after all this time, not complaining about free updates / improvements though, it just means I will really have to take my time or stop playing for a while, as I don't want to miss out on this new content. I'm only on chapter 2 right now though.

I only completed chapter 1 so far and playing like 30 minutes here and there because I was waiting for the Pro patch and finishing off Deus Ex MD and Xenoblade X(in the grind part of Xeno that needs 30% of a region explored to continue the main chapters)...I was ok with short terms stuff but medium and long term stuff, not so much...will I start it for good after the Pro patch now or keep waiting a bit for it to be my main game.

so... I shouldnt buy this game right now as its clearly not finished yet?
You can buy and enjoy the game up until chapter nine because there demoing content in there to justify more than $60. Chapter 9 on is linear story sequences and that's what they seem to be working on.

I'd still buy it and play in the open world.

if you have a Pro, def worth waiting for the 60fps patch. Performance ain't the greatest.

Ha ha! "Hey guys, because we've sold a few million copies now we're going to go ahead and finish off making the game."

You seem to understand the basics of why it's a flawed perspective, but you still obsess over the idea of "incompleteness". Just call the game lacking or bad. The future updates/DLC/expansions/ports may make it better (or worse), but that's ultimately a different version of the game. "Completeness" has no inherent value nor does it have an objective basis.

That's a silly way to look at this. Of course "completeness" has no inherent value but people are looking at it in the context of Final Fantasy XV as it exists as a product right now and how they have announced these changes and are planning on applying them. And it's an undesirable proposition to some, understandably.

GAF: "Man, we sure do wish Tabata would flesh out characters like Ravus a bit more"

Tabata: "You know what, no problem. We understand your criticism. We'll do that."

GAF: "Lol Mass Effect 3 all over again. Can't believe they're doing this."

I personally thoroughly loved the game, and don't feel like additional scenes are necessary. But SE obviously listened to player feedback and decided to acquiesce to that feedback, something a lot of devs would NEVER do. Hell, they turned XIV from a disaster into something great when most other companies would have let it die. Its not like they're fundamentally changing the entire story; they're adding a scene to one chapter. The rest is postgame and online stuff.

People have the right to criticize whatever they want, but shitting all over the team that obviously listened to some of you is beyond the pale.

Why waste so much time on a game you hate? Digital copy or something you can't sel back?

I feel like this is one of those arguments you can't win:

- Didn't play it? Man, you're criticizing a game you didn't even play, go form your own impressions
- Did play it? Well, you spent so much time on it, why spend so much time if you didn't like it

For me, FF XV had all the high and low points of WoW, without the multiplayer part. I kept going just because I was hoping that it got really good, but the entire thing surrounding this is a mess. Some characters got more development in the supporting material than in the actual game, others just get killed off with no ceremony. In short, the story doesn't flow in more than one place, there's the god-awful Chapter 13, and just so much that makes me slap my head in frustration.

I'm just laughing myself silly in my chair right now because this is a game that took 10 years to make, one that I see 'A Final Fantasy for fans and first timers alike' every time I load up the damn game, and then it still came out too early from the oven?

I mean, sure, they are fixing it, but I feel like anyone who goes 'they should have finished it in the first place' is entirely justified because they should have. For everyone quoting the high sales numbers:
https://twitter.com/KazHiraiCEO/status/804344695040212993
Consider this:

- They gave Lightning a trilogy that just got worse as time went on
- They made FF XIV not using the lessons they had learned from their other MMO, then basically had to make a second MMO to apologize for the first one
- Now, they're going to have to patch the story in FF XV (its an RPG, the story should kind of be the central feature)

I mean, I already have FF XV, and I waited for the damn thing for 10 years, so I'll take the free update assuming its free by the time its done. But at this point, I think FF XVI is going to be a really hard sell, because this is Square Enix. I can't recall off the top of my head the last game Square Enix (not Squaresoft) made that I will return to after playing it (and no, the games from Eidos don't count, because SE blamed all their losses on them, and they're games Eidos made anyways).

The game is getting 8s and 9s, you shouldnt put to much stock into these drive by shit posts acting like the game is a mess or unfinished.

Drive by shit posts? I litereally read the patch notes and posted my thoughts.

A game i have been thinking about buying suddenly says, Oh hay we will be changing the single player story content and adding some other stuff at somepoint in the future says this to me. Its not additional side content. Its changes to the main story content. Its not the sort of game I would play more than once either so with this knowledge the game clearly isnt complete just now and I should wait.

You know, I was perplexed at why the hunts in-game just felt like lazy MMO-type quests. Now with this news, it seems they really are treating this game more like an MMO than a single player game. Just baffling to be honest.

But still... new content. Will check it out.

90 hours, i even got it before the release date so don't go there. The game is a mess in every single thing you do.

As they say, the largest room in the world is room for improvement.

I understand your disappointment with the game, but in our imperfect world, they had to balance their perfectionist aspirations with commercial realities. Right or wrong, they felt that the Nov 2016 release was the best balance between those considerations.

Though seriously a creator creator for the main dude would be a huge incentive for me to actually pick this game up at some point.

People mad they're improving a game...?
This place is fucking ridiculous sometimes, people are acting like they are charging for this or that it's a bad game in general. They try to fix it and improve on an already great product they get bitched at. They don't update the game and leave it as it is people still complain, I feel bad for the team since there is no winning.

I finished Chapter 13 last night, it absolutely does bring the game down and needs improving. Momentum killer, not fun, a chore. I'm very surprised and impressed they're going to address it.

I think there are some over - reactions in here. I just completed the game, and it is not a case of its not finished - it is just that the story is poorly told , sometimes muddled and confusing and i don't think the addition of a few cutscenes is going to change it that much - it needs work on all levels of the game script.

At the moment it is very much a complete game from beginning to end , that at times is brilliant, and at times is woeful, with a cast that is immensely likeable, a world that is pretty well done , and with a poorly told story.

No it's simple. I wish they had done those things. You don't get to go back and fix it once it's done and people already paid for it and spent their time playing it

Yeah, you should keep playing the game, maybe it will be easier for you to understand why some people are complaining ? :)

I didn't reach chapter 13 yet and I don't question that it's bad. I'm actually glad that they're fixing it due to players' feedback and hope they patch it quick so I can get a better experience on the chapter. What I'm questioning here is people facing these changes as something negative and saying that they delivered the game incomplete with the intention of fixing these issues, and not something that they're doing with patches due to feedback.

The people who haven't played it yet and are coming it to say "lol unfinished game!" need to read this.

I think the people who are "mad" are the ones who got it day one and beat it already. So they're missing out on the improvements because they played it earlier and suffered through the unfinished product.

Don't forget #TeamTheyShouldHave who couldn't offer an actual solution than building a time machine

No it's simple. I wish they had done those things. You don't get to go back and fix it once it's done and people already paid for it and spent their time playing it

Your statement implies the game is broken. It isn't. You didn't like something, and SE is offering to change it to satisfy you.

For Christ's sake, they're adding an additional scene. Nothing is busted. Get over yourself.
