Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

So Too Much is Never Enough DOES play in the game.

You just have to watch the credits on the opening screen after you beat it. 😏

I feel like people who don't know who Jared is at all are the same people that couldn't comprehend FFXIII introducing three words into their vocabulary (l'cie, ci'eth, fal'cie).
...never got why people were confused with these words or what they meant...it was all very self explanatory and explained to you clearly in the game very early on.

Not knowing who Jared is is your own fault for not paying attention the cut scene when you get to Leville in Lestallum.

I get how the game trying to make his death is a big deal when he lacked any depth is baaad etc etc...but not knowing of his existence? lolzzzz The game does a far worse job on leaving plot points out later on...

Does the game even say his name once without subtitles though? I don't think you can blame people for missing a character with less than one minute screen time

Edit: Yeah just once as far as I can tell

After arriving at Lestallum and seeing that cutscene I went and did dozens of side quests and hunts and explored some dungeons while at it. When I finally decided to continue the story some 10 hours later it took me a while to remember that random generic old guy that appeared at one cutscene.

Haha this is true as well actually. I think there was 30 hours between those two cutscenes for me

I think most people are joking when they say they don't know who he is, myself included. It is simply hilarious the emotional tug they expected the audience to have from a nobody dying after his genius son sent us on a quest to find a super secret and important weapon he heard about in some book and why the fuck shouldn't we check out what this kid read in a book and while we are at it why not go check if there is a royal arm in a box with a fox -deep breath-

Wait. What are we talking about?

So I've been thinking how I would try and "fix" the game. The main goal is to try and fix it while keeping as much of the final product as possible, so nothing like "add explorable Tennabrae".

1) No cold open. Just start with a black screen with the voice over from the guys pushing the car and then open on Noctis waking up or whatever and helping to push. If it had to have a cold open then it could be before the time skip (keep it a surprise!) and instead have been the three friends holding off the demons in Chapter 13 telling Noct to go to the crystal, can still have the nice little character intros as they each shield/help Noct in turn and it can cut to black as he approaches the crystal and then go to the car breakdown.

2) Remove the Kingsglaive footage from the end of Chapter 1. No need, was badly implemented and Insomnia looks much better off than what it shows (you know, because Kingsglaive had multiple giant demons/god king statues fighting out over the city demolishing every single tall building). This wouldn't add or really change anything, just a personal thing because I thought the implementation sucked and it'd have been much better eing along for the ride with the Noct wanting to see the destruction for himself, to see if the city really was attacked and to be in the same spot as Noct and unsure whether the news of his fathers and Luna's death were true.

3) Most of the open world stuff is fine. Maybe sprinkle in some more group cutscenes while camping and the like. Like how I got a scene on top of a random motel one night with Prompto and Noct talking about how they became friends and it made references to Brotherhood and was a nice moment. More of that. Though the stuff with the four friends was good as it was.

4) No "I must leave now and have my DLC side adventure". Just either remove that shit completely or wait for them to be complete and include it in the game. If you must have DLC side stories then have them take place in the World of Ruin (looky here, you can even just reuse the open world!) and focus on their solo adventures and can show us older Iris, Cindy, Cid, Arenea etc.

5) More flashbacks to Noct and Luna. Doesn't all have to be from their time together in Tennebrae as kids, can be of their correspondence via magic doggos, just things that lets us see that they do actually care about each other other than it's an arranged marriage. Also more flash backs to King Dad and baby Nocty. We need to have a reason to miss our Dad other than "he's dad". Could even throw in more stuff with Cor and Jared and the other side characters so we get them more in our minds and care more when Jared died rather than "oh, ok". Hearing about "that poor kids grandfather" or whatever was a great way to find out about his death, it was a "oh no" moment for me but it would have meant more if we knew him better rather than, for me at least, just feeling sorry for a kid.

6) Reason to get the car back. They could just get another car, a slightly less nice car but still a car, from Cindy. They should have added something like Noct cares about the car because of good memories with Daddy, or how it's the only thing he has to remember him by. It'd be cheesy and sappy but also a better reason to break into a heavily fortified military base than "I need ma wheels!".

7) If Ravus is flip flopping on his allegiances then give us more cutscenes with him? Either cut away to him with the empire questioning their methods or more stuff with him and Luna where he's not necessarily opposed to Noct and Lucis but instead more protective of Luna and looking for a way where she won't get killed. I mean, this was kind of in there but pretty much came out of no where and felt very off compared to Kingsglaive which is the reason for his robodemonmagitech arm, where he was all "fuck Lucis for letting my homeland burn".

8) More emperor and science man. More stuff about them using demons. Just more reason to have those character models outside of a single cutscene.

9) More on the Starscourge stuff. I mean, I only remembered what it was because I looked at the Lore tutorial thing from the start. That stuff should've been implemented more naturally. Like, isn't there a scene where Noct is reading or trying to read the Cosmogoly book? They could've kept flashing back to that where Gentiana and/or Luna explain bits and pieces to him, like he (and we) are a child, so we start to understand and fill things in as we go about the demons and the six.

I'd also have liked a bigger Altissa to explore and more exploration in the last few chapters, like driving to the dungeon with blind Ignis (he could even worryingly backseat drive or something) and exploring more of the World of Ruin but I could see that stuff being more effort than it is worth and not really adding too much.

I don't know if any of these changes would even help or be practical but I think I'd have enjoyed them and they wouldn't have taken away anything from the game we had.

It's not that some don't know him, the most probably just don't care, cause come on, that scene was stupid. You see him once, go on a mission, come back, he is dead, dramatic music playing, Noctis making that hero speach "i swear, the empire will pay for this" to that kid, i mean...

The flash forward ruins tension in some parts of game as you know all bros appear at end.

If they went straight to car breaking would have improved the whole Gladious getting merked by Titain before Noctis gets pissed and ready to fight. The whole demon wave to help Noctis and the Ardyn on train sequence

My headcanon is that Iris told the group about Jared's death before they got to the hotel and that they decided to overreact in front of Talcott so that the boy wouldn't feel like nobody cared about his grandpa.

What the hell happens in chapter 13 that has caused SE to issue a patch? I'm on Ch 10 right now, and wondering if I should wait to finish.

Dungeons moments are so enjoyable in this game. This is where the classic FF vibe is.
Doing the sewers under Insomnia quest now and i was teleported to the 90s.

The only problem with this game is the script.

The Ravus boss fight music is so appropriate. It has those tragic, creepy, menacing undertones the character wore on his sleeves. Also something really industrial/machanical fitting the place.

I appreciate the difficulty of the task (well, I imagine, I'm not a musician)

You aren't supposed to care about Jared in a normal sense. You are supposed to see Noctis get pissed off at the fact that his people are getting killed. That was the whole point of that scene - people are dying for him, so he needs to man up and fight the empire head on. Like, the viewer doesn't need an emotional connection, just knowing that Noctis' people believe in him and are willing to sacrifice their lives.

Tal knowing the location isn't all the far fetched, they establish that much of the fairy tails are reality throughout the game constantly. That's the whole point of the tombs.

You're a terrible person hahahah

Yesss, seriously, the only thing I NEED out of them is the ability to manual save at campsites. They're obviously a throwback to save points in the middle of FF4-6 dungeons, letting you camp and heal up to full. Let me save!

Just realised that noctis is the first ff main lead to die. Unless you count the backdown that was
ff x2
. I'm starting to see a pattern with Tabata games and the lead character dying.

I... Had no idea Aranea would randomly come and join your party for a fight sometimes. She just popped down while I was fighting a Red Giant, helped slay it and left again. Thanks Aranea!

Everyone in the other thread is cheering at the announcement of story patches but... seriously? It's kind of just... dumb. When I saw the thread title I just laughed because of course they're going to patch the story in. Of course they are. It says everything you need to know about this game, really.

Which thread? I see plenty of people bitching about it in the threat dedicated to it. I think their hyperbole over it is insane, BTW. I don't think this is a big deal.

This is a good post, I agree with pretty much all of it.

-Ravus is getting more scenes now, so that's cool.

-The dev team said they had a lot of Luna flashbacks they didn't know where to put. Just shove 'em in!

-Altissia looks like it has full areas that are just walled off. I wouldn't be surprised to see them in Ignis' DLC.

-Science man is definite Prompto DLC material. Maybe even the final boss of his chapter. Big Bad Emperor is hopeful - but I'm not placing any bets on his story being told any better, unfortunately.

I... Had no idea Aranea would randomly come and join your party for a fight sometimes. She just popped down while I was fighting a Red Giant, helped slay it and left again. Thanks Aranea!

Wait... WHAT!?
When? How? Post game? Join as in her hp and stuff was visible? Wtf?

Please be real, I want to experience this

Edit: just saw a video of it. It's real. Wtf!

when the game throws away giant plot points after a couple of hours (collecting the weapons from the tomb), it's difficult to know that you're supposed to remember a character who was in the game for a couple of minutes before being killed off

If we're talking about how to improve the story, I really believe it would help if the bros had characters outside of their relationship to Noctis. Like, the Prompto being secretly from Niflheim thing? Use it! Make him some kind of reluctant spy, or torn loyalties, or something. Don't just drop it in and then ignore it forever. That's something previous games were good for: each character had their own independent arc. For example, in FFXII, Ashe is the protagonist, yes, but you've got Balthier's secret past and daddy issues, Fran's relationship with her sisters/abandoning the Wood, Basch vs Gabranth, and Basch's quest for redemption... Whereas there was none of that in FFXV. The characters didn't really evolve or change, because they only really existed in the narrative in relation to Noctis, which I think really hurt the story, especially when party members in other FF games have been so diverse and fleshed out.

Ending was beautiful. Noctis getting married to Luna in the afterlife is bittersweet. Love how they used my dumbass photos for the credits. I hope the DLC shows the aftermath and recovery. Nothing shown of the characters afterwards was a bit disappointing.

I've literally only had her glitch out on me.

First time after doing some stuff I fast travel to the Hunter HQ and the camera cuts away through a mountain, all glitchy, and Arenea drops down and instantly goes back up. Second time I was around the volcano and her airship was just floating in the air forever and wouldn't go away even if I travelled to the other side of the map, you could still hear the humming of the ship, it did go away on a restart though. Third time she dropped down after I fought some Sir Tonberrys and then proceeded to go bye bye again because there was nothing to fight.

Yup. Post-game. Full 5th party member with her Highwind Link Strike. She showed up out of her red ship, said "you boys could use a hand" and left after the fight. I loved it! Wish I saved the video now.

Nah. I think it's just post doing that level with the mithril shard with her.

I was fighting one of those road giant knights at night and she appeared in her dropship.

HP and all :P

You guys are making me want to do some night hunting tonight!

But alas, I have a final tomorrow >~<

He's not the first Serah dies in XIII-2
That ending was unexpected as hell.

Zack we knew from the get go, Noct was pretty obvious after a certain point, especially if you watched Kingsglaive and saw what happened to Nyx. Serah was like magical Sailor Moon friendship wins girl. Total blindsided ending.

I kinda expected something like that happening due to what happened to Yuel and whatnot, but yeah, it's definitely more surprising.

Crazy guess:

Episode Gladio will happen in the period he is absent from the party.
Episode Prompto will show what happened after he fell from the train.
Episode Ignis will happen in Altissia during the Leviathan madness.

During Episode Prompto, Ardyn will turn Iedolas into a Daemon right in front of his eyes. Some plot details will be revealed.
During Episode Ignis, Ravus will make an appearence.
I got nothing for Gladio.

What do you think?

Gladio's concept art looked interesting. Showed him in a craggy mountain we don't visit in game, so I'm guessing he goes up north

I would like Episode Gladio to tie in with Kingsglaive. Gladio gets information about a Glaive who survived the invasion seen in Lucis. He suspects that it might be one of the traitors so that's why he doesn't straight out tell Noctis before leaving the party. Then the DLC ends with a battle with Glauca, who barely survived the fight with Nyx, so Gladio gets to avenge his father.

Yeah, absolutely this. One of my biggest frustrations with XV are all the characters revolving around Noctis, and being fodder for his development. It's not like there isn't a ton of potential for everyone, too, especially Luna, Prompto, Gladio, and Cor. One of the reasons I love VII so much is that there is so much going on with the cast outside of Cloud: Aerith and her Cetra heritage, Tifa has Cloud/Nibelheim, Yuffie has Wutai, Barret has Dyne/Marlene, Vincent has Lucrecia/Hojo/Sephiroth, Cid has Shera/the failed space program, Red has his father, Cait/Reeve have a lot of guilt with Shinra, etc. That's just the playable cast, that's not even counting Rufus, the Turks, Shinra, Hojo, etc. XV is one of the few FFs (maybe even the first FF?) to have the supporting cast all have such little in the way of utilized personal plot.

...well, maybe sans Penelo. Poor Penelo, I wish your backstory with your brothers hadn't been cut. You were literally just... there.

I hope episode Gladio will show more Luna.

When Leviathan tries to eat Luna and she blasts that light beam while saying Leviathan!... I got strong female character vibes from her. If we had got more scenes that showed Luna behave like that, she would have been one of my favorite characters. I was disappointed in what she turned out being, but I still liked her and wanted to see more of her. The problem with her character is that all her strength is human-like, she does not have any fighting powers (she doesn't get the Vajra until she gets to Altissia).

Speaking about Luna scenes. That scene with Luna and Ravus in the Tenebrae garden was cut from the game, right? Wasn't it in the Judgment Trailer? EDIT: Maybe it wasn't? I recall there being a scene with Luna crying because she wanted to see Noctis, it might been that.

I think it was one of the flashbacks during the train part? But it doesn't make any sense anyway. There's no point in the timeline where Luna would be back at Tenebrae with Ravus after he loses his arm.

You could make a case about Squall dying at the end of 8 also (fuck that theory about him dying at disk 1)
