So have only been listening to rap since about 2008 but I'll throw a list out there, I like a lot more recent ones then i do the previous decade.

But here's mine:

1. J Cole
2. Kendrick
3. Drake
4. Kanye
(big drop off here for my rankings, not that they suck, but the top 4 is my Rushmore)
5. Childish Gambino
6. Lil Wayne
7. Chance the Rapper
8. Future
9. Wiz Khalifa
10. Vince Staples

Rap is probably somehwere around my 4th or 5th favorite genre.
RIP to Lil Wayne who would of been #1 easily by a mile

Ooh, Vince Staples! Chance ftw!

Gambino.....eh......

Let's see. Barney Rubble, Rodney Dangerfield, Mel Brooks, Tom Hanks, Freddy Kreuger, Joe Piscapo, The California Raisins, Al Pacino, Robin Williams, and the guy from the Link's Awakening commercial.

5. Pac
4. Del
3. MF DOOM

1. Rakim

Top 3 are locked in order, the rest will shift around as my tastes change.

7877. Chief Keef

LMAO. Sometimes his nonsense sounds great on an even better beat (like "Love Sosa"), but I usually just get annoyed with his music. Sometimes it just outright sounds like he's having a stroke or something.

Anyway, here's my personal list

Top 3
1. Eminem. Far and away my favorite rapper.
2. Ludacris
3. Juvenile

And the rest are in no particular order

Nas
Jay-Z

When you listen to a lot of artists, you can't make a list.

my revised list:

1. Too hard to choose this one
2. I have a couple of guys I'd put here
3. Easy
4. This is where it gets tough
5. The next 3 can go either way
6. Possibly switch with #7
7. Depends on how I'm feeling today
8. Deserves more credit
9. Used to be my favorite
10. Up and coming

1 to 10:

Rakim
Mos Def
Chuck D
Nas
Guru
Ice Cube
Andre 3000
KRS-One
Q-Tip
Dave

Those popped into my mind first. From one to three my list is set in stone though.

He doesn't really belong on the list, but Ed Fletcher (or Duke Bootee) probably had the biggest influence on my music taste. Hearing "The Message" for the first time as a little kid and especially his verse made me fall in love with rap music. Melle Mel gets all the credit for the song even though it was mostly done by Fletcher.

Rakim is my G.O.A.T
Nas and 90s Ice Cube top 3. The rest in no particular order

DMX, Ludacris, 2pac, Kendrick, Jay Z, Eminem and Biggie

1.MF DOOM
2.MF DOOM
3.MF DOOM
4.MF DOOM
5.MF DOOM
6.MF DOOM
7.MF DOOM
8.MF DOOM
9.MF DOOM
10. MF DOOM

No contest. The greatest villain like the greatest story ever told.

King Gheedora has everything under control.

I'm sensing a trend with this list.

Fucking lol at the last two.

I feel like putting Drake in your top ten is as big of a joke as having Vanilla Ice on the list. It's amazing to see the garbage that sells these days. Same with the drop in the quality in Kanye's work. He was on fire when he came out. Now he's just sad. Somehow the Kardashians are to blame for it.

Do we consider groups separately or as one? There might be some overlap with solo artists/groups.

Tupac
Ice Cube
Eminem
Biggie
Bone Thugs
NWA
Snoop Dogg
Nas
DMX
Chamillionaire

As this is a top ten favorite rappers that is what I will list, as in my favorite to listen to not who I think are all time best most of my favorites are not near GOAT material.

These just happen
To be who I relate to/enjoy in no specific order.

Killah Priest
ILL Bill
Slaine
Mos Def
RA the rugged man
Redman
B-Real
C-rayz walls
Big L
Goretex

I feel like putting Drake in your top ten is as big of a joke as having Vanilla Ice on the list.

Even if you're relatively indifferent to Drake (like me), it's easy to admit that he at least has the occasionally great verse/song like Stay Schemin or 5AM In Toronto. Now if he wrote it himself is another story, but it's still enough to be comfortably ahead of Vanilla Ice lol

No particular order.

Kendrick
Rakim
RTJ (counting their solo stuff too)
Aesop Rock
Del The Funky Homosapien
Wu Tang (again, solo stuff)
ATCQ
Black Thought
Outkast
Chuck D

Ghostface Killah
Killer Mike
Eminem
Redman
Mos Def
Ice Cube
Andre

Can't really think of anymore worthy artists. Shoutouts to Big L's Lifestylez tho

nas
mf doom
mos def
biggie
kendrick
earl sweatshirt
jay

beyond that i'm not sure who i'd list. i could list folk like big L and KRS, who i respect, but honestly i don't listen to them that often. i listen to people like action bronson and childish gambino more but i'm not under the impression they're insanely talented, more fun. i like cole, push, blue and freddie gibbs a lot, but don't feel like they've necessarily carved themselves a big enough niche yet for me.

eminem is someone else i respect, his flow and some of his rhyme schemes are bonkers at points. but personally my favourite em album is infinite, before people slated him for biting nas' style and he came up with shady. i'm not into the whiny voice and the fart jokes. i love kanye but more as a producer. i never really liked the majority of beats pac was on enough to listen to him much.

I'm disappointed Akala doesn't get more love.

I genuinely love his flow and his content, his fire in the booth sessions were nuts. I did not enjoy any of the music I've heard him over on album recordings though. I'd love to hear him over some boom bap, if you could point me in the right direction. I'm a fan of hiphop and a fan of live music, but I don't tend to be a fan of hiphop performed over a live band.

MC Lyte used to be in my top 5 back in 2012, but after finding other artists I seemed to forget about her. I'm not sure about putting her in that tenth spot though.

I assume you probably don't recognize Akua Naru and Rapsody from my list. Akua is a jazz rap artist and you can't go wrong with any of the three albums she released as a starting point and for Rapsody I'd suggest The Idea of Beautiful to start with.

Whoa, Akua Naru! This lady is amazing. I especially like her spoken word stuff.

EDIT:
Holy shit, Rapsody! :D

No particular order. Noticed half of its New York though.
