Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

How big is The Lost Legacy gonna be?

Oh those mentioned games I'm gonna get Gran Turismo Sport, Crash Bandicoot, and WipEout Omega Collection.

Uncharted 4 was 15 hours, so if they position it to 40$ and no multiplayer, then I think 6-8 hour game is in the cards.

Please read my later elaboration, I feel like I worded the post you quoted poorly, my bad. I meant if development is going right on schedule and they can hit a Fall 2017 release window, they will go for it. If the internal release target is March 2018, then it's because they need more time for development and the main reason is not to keep up with series tradition, which is the implication I got from several posters.

Well...i don't think GOW became a big franchise after GOW:Ascension, right? If the development was on schedule they could have released GOW 2,3,A also as soon as it was done or its a coincidence that every time they complete the game in March? Regarding Ghost of Sparta that was Ready at Dawn(i hope they are not the ones working on this...) Enough off topic posts on this i think...i would be happy to play the game asap...but if i have to "guess" on the release date what else to base it on other than the traditional release date?

What Remains of Edith Finch is not a Sony game anymore.

And yeah, I believe that thats it. Not really confident in WiLD coming next year and maybe Detroit comes out in September or something, but your list is pretty much whats in store for 2017

Only stuff I see that can be announced and released in 2017 is remasters. Maybe Demon Souls after BB2 is announced at E3.

A man can dream

I'd go nuts over a Bloodborne 2, though. Didn't know that about Edith Finch.

Did we see gameplay footage of Spider-Man? I think it was just a highly scripted cutscene made to resemble gameplay as a teaser of what to expect of the gameplay.

Y'all are bumming me out with your facts. :(

And Gravity Rush Remastered was Bluepoint (their finest work yet IMO).

Edith Finch isn't published by Sony anymore and who knows how WiLD is coming along now that Michel Ancel is finally working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 too.

Ah, okay, so it's Bluepoint but Sony-published (obviously) since it was originally made internally by Sony.

Truth be told, it's best to not assume release dates until it's officially announced. It may spare you the heartbreak or make your day. Just saying there's no locked release date for God Of War either way. The filming being close to complete could signal that development may be wrapped up in 8-10 months, but there could still be a lot left to finish, requiring more time. I wasn't saying a March 2018 release is impossible, just saying if it is out then, it's more because of development cycles than series tradition.

Also, this isn't off topic at all, LOL. This thread was made specifically to discuss Sony's first party devs, their games and the potential release dates. We're right on track.

Truth hurts, bruh. :P

Truth hurts, bruh. :P

I know, lmao. =P

Truth be told, I'm way more excited for Spider-Man and Days Gone than God of War. I hope the best for GoW, but I'm really wondering about the gameplay and if it'll stray too far from what I enjoy about the series (huge set pieces, incredible boss fights, crazy starts, etc.).

Days Gone looks like a very fun survival game, and Spider-Man -- open-world superhero stuff from Insomniac -- needs no explanation. I really hope for one or both of those next year. *crosses fingers really hard*

And I know Miyazaki said something about Souls being done, but since Bloodborne isn't technically Souls, I hope in the back of my mind he wasn't including it. One more Bloodborne this gen would make my day.

most of it looks like gameplay to me, they've just done the whole "cinematic angles" thing to make it look...well...more cinematic.
That's exactly the reason why I'm doubting it's actual gameplay. I feel like Insomniac could easily frame those scenes to look like gameplay as a concept of sorts.

One thing that IMO pans against GoW releasing next year is the fact that SMS has changed a lot since their last God Of War game.

They moved to a new location, studio management changed, an internal project was shutdown with people beeing let go and some other beeing relocated, their work with external devs seems to be ending (or going trough a big overhaul). That affects everybody on the studio in some way

Plus they had basically to reboot this franchise and who knows how many protoypes they had before choosing the game we saw last E3.
Sometimes you just wish Shinobi would chime in to clue us in on how development of these games are going. :P

And, this one is really important, because it will set the tone of the franchise going forward, so they reaaaaally need to hit it right with this one

I'm going to go against popular belief, and I will say, that Spider-Man is a 2017 July title. Arkham Knight and the Witcher 3 found success there, the movie is coming out, and Insomniac working on it since Sunset Overdrive was released.

God of War is definitly Late 2017/Early 2018
Grand Turismo Sport is Late 2017 (Dec)
Last of Us Part 2 is 2018 Summer
Days Gone should be Late 2017, but will be Early 2018 and collide with TLOU P2
Death Stranding is probably Late 2018, early 2019, but I wouldn't be suprised if it's late 2019
Uncharted: Lost Legacy is 2017 Summer
Detroit is 2017 Fall

With all the titles in the pipe line I think we may have essentially seen the entire exclusives portfolio form the big first party teams until PS5.

standard operating procedure for Sony is to release their one big First Party game in the spring like Bloodborne or Uncharted, and then the fall they just ride on a wave of hype from E3/Gamescom/Palystation Experience and the fact that people are buying their consoles for Destiny 2/Call of Duty/Madden/2K/Mass Effect/Battlefront/etc.

So Horizon early next year, David Cage in the summer or some shit, annnnnnnnnd...thats it.

BPYj9Sm.gif

that's gameplay

But then you'll have the stupid no games bs or games outside fall/winter season don't count
Would we?

Jan-march is covered
Gr2,horizon and mlb

Wipeout and hot shots is summer

They still have crash and knack I mean these could be made into holiday bundles for the kids either put both together or Separately.

Gt sport I feel is getting a full year delay if not that'll be the spring game.

Parappa, loco Rico and patapoon has to fit somewhere

Than third party exclusives

You'd have to massively troll to try and pull that no games bs

except the canned animations of the combat scenes are clearly taken from gameplay. they've just moved the camera around a bit to make it look cinematic. a lot of devs do it. it's not that unusual.

This, for sure. They're always smart with their all ages orientated bundles, and both Knack & Crash are aimed for second half of 2017, one of those will undoubtedly get bundled, if not both. This year there's bundles with Ratchet & Clank, & Lego Star Wars out there.

Quantity wise this year might not have matched the next but we still got horseshit around the internet but yeah gotta learn block out trolls

Yeah, and there is nothing wrong with avoiding fall and getting that spring money. Just wish they were more clear about that
I think it's more they're trying to please investors and stuff or development just isn't stable these days

You really think TLOU Part 2 is going to come out just one year after UC The Lost Legacy?

If we're making release window guesses then I'll go with:

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Mid 2017
Detroit Late 2017
Grand Turismo Sport Late 2017
Knack 2 Late 2017
FromSoftware New Souls-like IP Early 2018
God of War Early 2018
Days Gone Mid 2018
Spider-Man Late 2018
Death Stranding Early 2019
Last of Us Part 2 Mid 2019
Sucker Punch New IP Mid 2019

Yeah, and there is nothing wrong with avoiding fall and getting that spring money. Just wish they were more clear about that

i think their intentions are legit when they say they want to release end of year. but as games become more complex, and people's expectations increase they have no options but to delay

EDIT: there is a painful lack of gravity rush 2 on all these peoples lists for 2017.

They've said it was in-engine gamplay didn't they? In-engine stuff confuses the hell out of me though, so not sure if it's achievable or not.

Edit:
According to VideoGamer they did.
https://www.videogamer.com/news/spider-mans-impressive-ps4-demo-was-actually-in-engine-gameplay

It would be great if it was actually gameplay, that means the game is further along in development than I thought, which in turns means sooner release date.

Anyway, "in engine gameplay" sounds very confusing. A trailer rendered in engine could possibly not be real time. As in, a more poweful hardware is used to render it than the hardware that runs gameplay, but it uses the same engine. Think ND's PS3 games which had pre rendered in engine cutscenes. Real time in engine would mean it is rendered on the same hardware and engine regardless of cutscenes and gameplay. Think Uncharted 4.

About half of those predictions are a year too early.

I actually forgot about uncharted lost legacy again lol. That's probably another spring title. So happy it's getting a retail release

Spring 2017? I think they would have dated it at PSX if that was the case. They've dated as far Horizon & Parappa in March and gave Wipeout a Summer window right? I honestly think Uncharted will be just after Summer before the fall avalanche and pushed as a big deal.

With all the titles in the pipe line I think we may have essentially seen the entire exclusives portfolio form the big first party teams until PS5.

Eh, I doubt that. Sucker Punch is working on something right now, for example, and they've revealed new first party games every E3 for a while. And look at something like Bloodborne, which people only heard rumors about until E3 2014 and then came out early the next year.

I'd be surprised if Insomniac didn't have another Ratchet & Clank with how well the remake did.

I know some of those are technically not first party studios, but they're either first party or work closely with Sony. I have to think they have more to reveal this E3 that's coming on the PS4 since I've assumed the next iteration of Playstation will come in 2019 or 2020.

Yeaaa I could see that too. Guess it depends on what's up with dreams as well.

Wait parappa is March!? Didn't know it had a date

in-engine gameplay usually just means it's running real-time gameplay, but it's not raw gameplay capture. again, done to make it look more cinematic and to show details you otherwise wouldn't see. like the close ups on spidermans face... it's done to show the detail of the suit so people can go "wow, look at the detail of the suit" but if you got those kind of shots while playing it would be, well...weird. lol

People are still saying it will take Sucker Punch 5 years to release their next game? That just seems outrageous to me.

Can I have some of what you're smoking if you really believe TLoU2 is coming out "early 2018"? I will take the biggest avatar bet ever on that estimation. Just spell out the terms.

People are still saying it will take Sucker Punch 5 years to release their next game? That just seems outrageous to me.

That entirely depends on what it is. Horizon is over 6 years. I believe The Order and TLoU were like 4.5 years, and so on. New IPs take an awful lot of time.

Yeaaa I could see that too. Guess it depends on what's up with dreams as well.

Hah, I am immediately unsure, now you've questioned me on that. I could have filed that wrongly in my head, sorry man.

It is listed for March 28th

Doesnt really sound like placeholder, that would be March 31st

And WipEout Omega Collection is listed for July 31st, but that one does look like placeholder

Yea That's a bit much too me. Infamous first light came out in August 2014 and I imagine only the bulk of the team was already starting on a new project. Mid 2018 is my guess

It is listed for March 28th

Doest really sound like placeholder, that would be March 31st
Mm I can fit that in alil before I dive head first into the kingdom hearts collection. Parappa is pretty short

If it's a new I.P I could see it taking that long, hasn't Horizon been in development for about that long? If it's another inFamous, then yeah it'd be pretty crazy.

That just unnecessarily makes the term complicated IMO. Gameplay will always because real time, otherwise, it wouldn't be "gameplay", LOL. But I guess it sounds catchy for people who don't know better, so it just became a widely used term.
