Who do you think has been screaming for gun bans and gun control? Sure as hell isnt Trump voters.

Trump voters have all the guns. Go for it. Watch yourself get wiped out.
To quote a favorite comedian of mine "You know the government has drones right? You're bringing a gun to a drone fight!"

really think you guys are missing the forest for the trees here.

of course there won't be some miraculous last-minute election reversal. like, of course not. it's not really clever to point this out.

but Russian hacking and/or co-operation with the RNC taints and calls into serious question the entire Republican party. that is a big deal.

there won't be any stunning announcement I don't think, but this could be the beginning of a long-term disaster for the american right, as rules about state secrets and collusion with foreign actors kind of supercedes everything. After all the election is an internal affair, but if this is another country – a historic antagonist – directly fucking with the levers of power in the USA, that is an external threat, which outranks all internal politics.

The media leaks of US intelligence community assessments so far have pointed to Russian state involvement being limited to the circumventing of online security to obtain DNC emails and publish those through WikiLeaks. I haven't seen anything in the reports so far that indicate that Russia was able to falsify the election results themselves or that any of the actions Russia has done have been with the explicit foreknowledge and deliberate cooperation of Trump or the Republican party. In fact, the reports seem to paint the picture that Trump, at least, continues to believe that Russia was not actually involved. Of course, there is always the possibility that there is some information the US intelligence community has that has not been revealed to the public yet.

i don't think people announce a seismic presidential intervention of civil war proportions then go on holiday.

This. I honestly think this is just a holiday greeting. Asking people to stay safe and enjoy your time with your family. This is his last Christmas as President afterall.

Nothing left to lose baby, here we go!

It's a shame I'm at work and not sitting on my favorite couch with some popcorn.

At least my Trump supporting colleague is on vacation so I won't have to deal with the awkwardness.

I don't think he would drop a bomb before going off on vacation. That would make no sense.

Unless "vacation" is code for "I'm fucking leaving the country because fuck all you guys holy shit fucking hell fuck"

Agreed. This will be nothing, aside from maybe some mention of the Russian involvement being investigated, and words about how the integrity of the United States' elections will be upheld and kept free from foreign influence, etc.

"We won't rest for one minute, until those responsible are brought to justice. Now let's go grab a bite to eat at a resort."

I can understand the desire to make sure Trump doesn't become president at any cost, but I think this is being unfair to Obama. If Obama did do something along the lines of saying "I will make sure Trump doesn't become president" at today's press conference, he would basically be throwing the entire system of US government out the window, potentially irrevocably. And it's not like if he said that that Trump, the GOP, and all the people who voted for Trump would just roll over and say "OK, we'll go away." You may be confident that in any resulting conflict your side will win, but that is by no means guaranteed. I think these are things that Obama recognizes, and he doesn't seem eager to invite a potentially violent civil war that could result in an even worse scenario for people concerned about Trump than a Trump presidency will be. I, for one, respect him for that.

But I could be wrong in this assessment of Obama; I've certainly been wrong about plenty of things this year. We'll see what happens.

Damage is already done. Nothing can actually be done now.

But totally by all means go out swinging I guess. At least history might look a little more kindly on you if you at least look like you tried to stop the incoming shitstorm.

i dont see any action he could take outside of presenting substantial evidence that the emails that were leaked were forgeries that wouldnt almost immediately thrust the nation into civil war. Afaik the content of the leaked emails was never disputed so its doubtful that the President would be doing that at the press conference. Its probably a holiday thing.

I don't expect Obama to burn everything to the ground. He'll share some concerns and maybe some new facts. Hopefully he'll also reconfirm that he will help with the transition process. Which will be just enough to bait Trump into another rant and more false accusations.

So basically Obama is going to say Russia tried to influence election and that's annoying.

As an American, I agree and I am very unhappy about the current state of our country.

THAT said, I mean.. we have done our fair share of tampering with the democratic processes of other countries.. so... yeah.

It is something we have to definitely fight against, but complaining about it is meh. Too late now anyways Barry. Should have mentioned this earlier, but you were afraid you would be perceived badly by the GOP.

i just dont see what the big deal is.

gays are getting married guys. fake news is claiming were destroying the enviroment. black people are asking for a fair shake in society. oil companies are being persecuted. these are the real issues.

Guys, a late December press conference before the holiday break is standard procedure. Here's last years.

Of course the topic of the election will come up during questions. But don't expect anything more than what he has already said.

This isn't an Oval Office address. It will be a a short statement outlining an overview of 2016 and a Q&A session with the pres corps.

This thread is going to be full of these posts later :

The stunning Republican hypocrisy on Russia is ripe for calling out. These fuckers act like they've never seen an 80s Schwarzenegger movie.

Obama should get into why Trump's "former" advisor is already in Russia holding meetings. The Russians were told of the Rex Tillerson appointment before the US media was. They're basically acting like sanctions will be lifted and drumming up business already

Right...just like Trump was the end of the Republican party. It's like the ____ will save the Wii U meme. _______ will be the undoing of the Republican party

November 7th, 2016: Trump will be the undoing of the Republican Party, dissolving it into nothing after an apocalyptic nationwide wipeout tomorrow.

November 9th, 2016: Republicans control the Presidency, House, Senate, Supreme Court, 33 Governorships, and both State Legislature chambers in 32 States.

I suggest watching White House press conferences this week, & Trump's Twitter response. Smooth transition isn't happening.

It seems that this entire week has been leading up to this. CIA leaks, WH getting more vocal, Trump not acknowledging Russian interference.

From what I am hearing, @POTUS has determined that orderly transition cannot be accomplished and is no longer priority due to Trump/Russia.

Could be something here.

Wow. Going to be interesting to hear what he says.

havent read any of the replies so probably already been said, but obama does this every year before his christmas vacation.

Exactly. And then when it's over this Yankovich character will lose all credibility and he can go back to singing his comedy songs or whatever.
