Obama to hold press conference at White House on Friday

A 3rd term is about to happen

I know this thread is a series of joke posts now, but Obama would sooner put Biden as temporary president before that. The furthest he would go, with enough evidence, would be to schedule a new election. Things would get ugly, but as I said, it's with enough evidence.

This hyperbole is hilarious. Biggest event in American history? So...we're just going to ignore the Revolutionary War, Civil War, the expansion of the country westward and the consequences of that, any of the amendments that redefined the experience of people living in this country, and many other events?

Unless Obama reveals himself to be an alien and that aliens have taken over the US (or the equivalent with a foreign country), then that guy has lost it.
Being bigger than the Civil War alone would be crazy.

Scheduling a new election is the pipe dream of pipe dreams. The absolute best I believe that could reasonably happen is the House decides on the President and it's not Hillary or Trump/Pence.

I don't care what it is, but I just hope it's him calling Russia out or something.

Unleash the Inner Bauer, Barrack. It's been too many years since you let the tiger out of its cage.

I hope this is the moment where he finally acts like the tyrannical Kenyan God-Emperor that he was continuously accused of being, and announces his third term and that democracy is cancelled.

He should walk over to the national archives, punch the glass over the constitution and burn it. "Game over GOP, you fucked America for the last time."

It is obviously about this headline dropped on Thursday:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio: 5-year investigation proves Obama birth certificate is fake

Zullo repeatedly stressed that the theory was supported by two experts on two separate continents. He said the investigators analyzed nine Hawaii birth certificates, and that one of them, belonging to a woman named Johanna Ah’Nee, was the source of the copied text.

One last stand (and chance to justify the millions of dollars spent) proves to be worth it!

Read the article if you want a laugh, even the arizona republic treats it as weak last stand for Arpaio

That's Obama's routine pre-holiday, end-of-year press conference. He does these every year.

I'm sure the topic will come up but it likely won't be anything earth-shattering like that non-approved random Twitter poster suggests.

Probably just announcing that he's taking all the furniture from the press room with him because all Trumps announcements will be made over twitter or in rallies in the rust belt.

Nothing of substance regarding Trump will happen from this. Obama will uphold a peaceful transition and maintain the stability of democratic institutions. I expect some measures against Russia though.

I am so happy he didn't get re-elected. They should charge him with all the court fees, at least the ones for contempt of court. And they should send him to tent city during the summer so he can lie in the bed he made.

I suggest watching White House press conferences this week, & Trump's Twitter response. Smooth transition isn't happening.

It seems that this entire week has been leading up to this. CIA leaks, WH getting more vocal, Trump not acknowledging Russian interference.

From what I am hearing, @POTUS has determined that orderly transition cannot be accomplished and is no longer priority due to Trump/Russia.

Could be something here.

Exciting stuff. Hopefully Obama lays into Trump and tells it like it is. Of course, Trump voters won't listen or care, but maybe at least it will get the press talking about all of this highly concerning stuff.

Wow, I'm getting nervous over here. Sounds like things are getting serious at the White House.

Trump seems like a mess that may need to happen, though I doubt lessons will be learned as any blame he should receive will be deflected onto others, most likely people unable to defend themselves, like minorities, illegal aliens, the poor janitor or secretary that did some complex conspiracy crap by mistake somehow.

I'm assuming this press conference will be:

Obama: Well, I finally got around to playing The Witcher 2. It was a'ight...I mean, it's no Skyrim, but it was cool. Hit me up on Xbox LIVE for some Gears 4 later. Obama out.

i suspect he might call for a delay of the EC vote because of definitive proof of Russian hacking.

which would be historic.

Can he do that with an Executive Order? Might be a very smart choice if it gives the CIA more time to dig up more dirt till inauguration day (even more so if that one is posponed as well as a result).

Damn y'all need to keep your expectations in check. Read that one post explaining that it happens all the time and not made for big things like Trump making love to Russia.

Are you insane? No it's not. The Russians hacking the DNC's emails doesn't justify a new election.

If there was evidence of foreign-led vote tampering on a massive scale you might have a case.

Other than that though the DNC leaks obviously didn't help Hillary, but they're not alone in the "things that didn't help Hillary" basket. Her crap campaign and candidacy first and foremost.

it cannot be anything important if Obama is still going out for vacations after the conference

well, we don't know exactly what they've found yet, do we? apart from knowing that it's enough for the CIA to make noise.

Obama can't do an executive action but he can yank congress back into session if he deems it "extraordinary", which is what would be required for an EC delay:

Donald Trump vs. Hillary Clinton art (Shutterstock)Right now, there is a growing effort underway to get the Electoral College vote postponed. On Wednesday, Rep. Don Beyer (D-Virginia) called for a delay of the vote because of the CIA’s apparent conclusion that Russia meddled with the 2016 election to help Donald Trump win. Many of the anti-Trump forces jumped on board. Forty six additional electors have joined an effort demanding a full intelligence briefing on any alleged ties between President-elect Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin before they will vote.

But let’s be real here. The Electoral College convenes on December 19th. That is on Monday! These folks don’t have much time to work with. So, the question that we wanted to know as a legal website: Is this even possible? Can they actually postpone the vote? The short answer is yes. The long answer: It would literally take an Act of Congress.

First, let’s explain how the date was set. The Constitution dictates that the Electoral College must meet to vote for President and Vice-Present. The 12th Amendment states:

The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and of all persons voted for as Vice-President, and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate; The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted;–The person having the greatest number of votes for President, shall be the President.

But, note there is no date mentioned in the Constitution for when this must happen. Instead, the date for the Electoral College meeting was set by congressional statute 3 U.S.C. 7 which states:

The electors of President and Vice President of each State shall meet and give their votes on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December next following their appointment at such place in each State as the legislature of such State shall direct.

The law setting the date was passed in 1948, and there has never been a presidential election in which the vote was postponed, according to our research.

“I’m unaware of any previous presidential election in which the date for the meeting of the electors was changed by Congress after the date on which the electors themselves were appointed (i.e., the date that citizens had cast their popular votes in the presidential election) had occurred,” Ohio State University Professor Ned Foley, who serves at the director of election law at the Moritz School of Law, told LawNewz.com.

Even during the contentious 2000 election, the Supreme Court’s decision that resolved the dispute surrounding the election was issued on December 12, 2000. That was six days before the Electoral College was scheduled to meet, and certify George W. Bush as the President.

The U.S. Constitution requires that the electors in each state meet on the same day. So, in order to change the date, Congress would literally have to intervene and pass a law, which would then have to be signed by President Barack Obama. They better move fast because Congress is scheduled to be adjourned for the rest of the year starting Friday at 3 p.m. If Congress adjourns “sine die,” and is not just in recess, President Barack Obama would have the power to reconvene both house, according to Article II, Section 3 of the United States Constitution, for “extraordinary occasions.” The bottom line: It’s possible, but highly unlikely that this date would be moved. But, then again, nothing about the 2016 election has been normal.

Holy shit if true

Please Obama, let it all out. Blow this man apart. I'm surprised you actually met this man and acted like you wanted to work with him. I saw right through that. Gloves better be off. I hope you also have more information about Russia's involvement in the election. Its clear that it was, now blow the door open on this.

If its just have a safe Christmas without pushing back on Trump I will be annoyed and disappointed in you.

Quicheprediction!

The words "it's time to come together as a country" will be uttered at this press conference.

He's going on holiday tomorrow. LOL at anyone thinking he's going to declare the election void or some shit.

well, we don't know exactly what they've found yet, do we? apart from knowing that it's enough for the CIA to make noise.
But not enough for it to leak before a Friday news dump pre-holiday press conference that is in line with ones President Obama has held every year? Nor to be discovered more than a month after the election occurred?

I just hope he drops all the political diplomatic soft speak and say what he really feels.

Hes got nothing to lose.
