What's the word on the Doom PC-port?

it starts at 30fps 720p, and when I try to change to 1440p windowed mode I just get a blank screen. I can't alt-tab nor ctrl+alt+delete my way out - I have to reboot the PC.

I'm so mad right now because I lost a lot of work due to this crap.

It's an absolutely fantastic PC Port

Got Terraria, Stardew Valley, To the moon, and some DLC.
That should keep me busy for a while.

Might get more, I bought very few new releases on steam this year. Last year I bought everything I wanted day 1 and ended up getting nothing in the sales.

Thinking of also getting God Eater 2 at the moment.. I had it on Vita but I ended up selling the system. Hoping the online multiplayer is active. Never got to play online on the Vita because I couldn't find anyone.

Speaking of Saints Row, I should finally get Gat Out of Hell, its cheap and short enough (or so I hear) to get my Saints crazyness fix and to complete the series.

Gat is fun but it doesn't actually have story missions like in SR4. It's more side stuff until you get a cutscene and repeat.

Really happy with Arkham Knight. Everything at the highest settings including nvidia effects and a locked 60fps without issue. The top Steam Controller bindings work perfectly, but also demonstrate some odd decisions on the part of the developer for some of the controls which are thankfully fixed up with the Steam Controller. Only thing that I can see getting annoying fast is the driving platforming, so I'm gonna play in short bursts to avoid getting completely fed up with those sections

Hmmm... are the cutscenes good at least?

Sorry to say I'm not convinced. Right now it's locked at 60fps on a 165Hz monitor. Still can't change to windowed mode, alt-tab or even quit the game without turning off the whole PC.

It's seriously one of the strongest PC ports I've ever seen. If you're having issues like that, it's most likely an issue with your rig. Do a clean install of your drivers.

You may be the one random bad case because yeah that game apparently is amazingly well made for PC. Some people said the best port of the year.

Specs?

Most of us are getting +120fps on 1440p so I'm having a hard time believing you

Don't have much time to hang today steam pals. So see ya next time. Happy Holidays and may your steam discounts come true.

I played through both The Room ($1.24) and The Room Two ($2.49) today (both gifts from Kabouter at various points!) They're really lovely little "room escape" puzzle games. The premise of The Room is that you're in this room in this old mansion and you find this giant, ornate mechanical box. By flipping switches, solving puzzles, spinning dials, and putting things in slots, you progressively unlock and open more and more of the box. If you've played any room escape game the mechanics will feel familiar, but these have a very old timey feel, like you're playing with this lost mechanical toy. They have Rube Goldberg machine quality. Each game lasts a little over 2 hours--so they're not long--and has an auto-save and chapter breaks. The real reason why I want to recommend these games is that they have very lovely progressive hint systems, so if you're the kind of person who gets frustrated and gives up on adventure or puzzle games, you can play these comfortably (the achievements also do not require you not to use hints, so just play the way you want to play!). The Room Two mixes up the formula a little bit but I think probably the best way to describe it is to tell you to buy The Room and if you like it and want something more but a little different and higher budget, check out the Room Two.

Final notes:
- The games are not based on either the film The Room, or the film Room.
- There is a third game in the series, it'll probably get a PC port in 2017 or early 2018 based on their delays before
- The games are also on mobile and honestly although the graphics are better looking on PC, the UI is very tactile and very tablet friendly. I think you might also get the games cheaper there so if you just want to play and don't care about Steam collecting, feel free to check that out!

After some Googling it seems to be an issue for G-Sync users. It forces 60fps for some reason (even in windowed mode) which causes everything to break.

i7 6700K, 32GB, 1080

Fresh install of Windows.

edit: I can change to 1440p windowed now - but the problem persists. Locked at 60fps and can't alt-tab from windowed mode.

Odd. I've got a Ben-q 144hz gsync monitor and haven't run into that on OpenGL or Vulcan.

It's very odd indeed. Never experienced anything similar before.

Can you alt-tab? Or press Windows-key to access the desktop?

I don't have it installed currently, but I most certainly alt-tabbed when I played it, I do for pretty much everything.

I'm seeing improvements at least, I can alt-tab now. It's a bit slow, and the Windows-key still doesn't work for quick access to the start menu.

Still locked at 60 though, but at least I can alt-tab/quit the game now.

You've never played them before? The Room 3 is even better, and expands the game into areas with multiple rooms in a single puzzle and a kind of hub area with secrets.

I had no idea where to go in the RE7 demo that I got lost and fell asleep

the full game is going to suck

RE7 demo ain't nothing like the actual game besides atmosphere and perpsective. It was designed as a mood piece, not a representation of the gameplay

Yeah, I played all 3 games on iPad this year, they're pretty neat.

I got Hyper Light Drifter and Ori and the Blind Forest. I hardly have any Steam games at all - what are a few "must have" titles to look out for?

Thinking about picking up Life is Strange and Oxenfree, but can't help but feel like both of them will be in a bundle before I get around to playing them. Life is Strange because it's Squeidos/Squenix-published western games are bundle friendly, and Oxenfree is, well, an indie that seems destined for a humble indie bundle. Neither are expensive, but I just have so much to play and no time to play any of it.

I was about to buy Assassins Creed Black Flag but then I saw it had the uPlay requirment.
Fuck.

Maybe I've been lucky, but I've had not one single problem with Uplay

Also, consider Rogue over Black Flag.

The former is devoid of the garbage Tailing and Eavesdropping missions that plague the latter.

If you're not gonna play them right away, wait. Otherwise, just buy them. They're not long at all. Oxenfree is the shorter one of the two, at no more than a handful of hours if you just rush through it without paying mind to radio frequencies and such.

LiS is a worthwhile title. I didn't enjoy Oxenfree as much, but if it's something you're interested in, these are good price points.

Pretty sure oxenfree is already in a bundle since I own it and never bought it

Oxenfree is okay but pretty short and feels like a poor mans Life is Strange to me. LiS is fantastic and so worth $5, but you're probably right that it'll be bundled in the relatively near future.

Yeah you're right I think it was right after the Halloween sale IIRC.

where do I find a gun!? this thing just killed me

"It looks like you've been attempting a lot of purchases in the last few hours. Please wait a while before trying again."
And I'm paying with steam wallet funds. What the fuck valve.

How long is a while? I've bought 3 games and it was all at once :/

I bought the limited edition version of Life is Strange and have no regrets whatsoever. One of the most memorable games I've ever played. Absolutely worth it at 75% off. Oxenfree has already been bundled once. I'm sure you could find it pretty cheap on here or somewhere like G2A. Played it for about an hour and a half a few months ago, but never got around to finishing it.

I think talking about sites like g2a is forbidden here since it's morally grey 🤐

How's Evil Within on PC?

Surely better than console performance, right?

I picked up about 3 months ago and couldn't stop playing it til I finished the main game and the DLC. It ran great on my PC with a GTX 970. Performance was really good on my end.
