Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

I'm eyeing Terraria and Starbound. I never played either, for some reason I always assumed they were sidescrolling platformers.

I tend to get bored after a while in Minecraft, once I have a home and a farm up and running I get lost as to what to do. Are these games going to be for me? What is the difference, besides the fantasy and scifi setting? Which is the better game for a newbie like me?

I've played quite a bit of both games. Personally, I enjoyed Terraria immensely more than Starbound. The movement, combat, fishing, boss fights, crafting, etc just feels a bit more polished to me. It can be a bit grindy once you get to hardmode and are hunting for rare drops to complete armor or weapons, but for the shear amount of content I recommend Terraria to anyone who enjoys the genre.

How can you deal with your backlog? I've still to finish (even to start...) lot of games and I already want to buy tons of new ones... :(

At one point I reduced my backlog to games I really want to play. The other stuff I have and will maybe play sometime but it has a pretty low priority for me.

Just bought Abzu and Oxenfree. I totally missed Oxenfree, but the description sounds like a perfect game for me.

I have some more games on my list, but looking at the discounts I should wait for the next sale.

Already spending the Steam credit I was gifted for Christmas... chewing over this lot:

All worthy of a punt?

Learned my lesson. Buy games that I actually want to play, right now. If I can wait long enough until one is less than $10, I'm probably not interested in playing the game in the first place. This is also why I'm buying less and less games on sale. Buying games on huge sale feels good, but only until you realize that you won't play them. Paying $60 for a game that I enjoy for a whole month is much better value than owning 10 games that I won't ever touch.

I am so close to buying CrossCode. But it likely being an Q2/3 2017 release and them saying they'll reduce the price near launch again made me hold off.

I think I will hold off for 50% discount since I wont be playing it right at this moment, probably not even till the summer sale lol.....(backlog)

Easily, Overcooked.

Say goodbye to your friendships.

Was playing CrossCode and was wondering why the game moved so smooth. Almost like silk. I was thinking this was the best feeling 60fps game ever. I turned on my FPS overlay and it turned out the game was running at 144hz.

I think this is the first 2d sprite based game where the frame rate was above 60. Man its amazing how framerate can make a game look and feel so smooth.

Aside from that the game deserve especially every bit of praise it recieves. It's probably the best top down action RPG on STEAM and it's not even done yet. I feel like it's even better than any of the Y's games. The only bad thing about the game is that it's not finished. The game deserves Stardew Valley level of sales once it's released.

Buy it

These look amazing, added to wishlist.

- forget about games you have no interest in, not everything in your library is automatically part of your backlog
- if you try a game and don't like it, forget it instead of forcing your way through it
- only buy games when you know you're going to play them immediately
- you don't need to 'complete' your backlog before buying new games, but ask yourself: do I really want this game right now? or are there some games in my backlog I'd like to play while waiting for a better deal on that game

Thinking of picking up a Souls game. Never played any of the series (though I've watched the Vinny/Brad playthroughs on Giant Bomb). Is it best to start with the OG or should I just grab the third?

Fuck yeah it is
It's falcom you know you are in for some good ish
I second this. I'm currently playing through it and it's really an addicting game loop of earning levels and gold to improve your character and explore dungeons. Just know that the story isn't what you come to this game for imo.

That might seem so in the beginning, but I can guarantee your opinion will change.

I'm too lazy to check my password from pc so I reset my pass from mobile, so I can't sell my card anymore for a weak because I forgot about this shit

Fortunately, the sale doesn't end for another eight days and some change, so you'll still have plenty of time to sell your stuff and mull over another purchase or two.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Has inside been cheaper than 30% off, and Owlboy 20%?

Looking to buy both but unsure when is a good time to pull the trigger.

I took a look at my wishlist yesterday and it looked really boring... except for Trillion: God of Destruction (thanks for the awesome post, OniBarubary).

Since I hadn't wishlisted any anime game, Trillion made my wishlist look cool and fun again. So I though: why can't my shopping cart look this fun and cool? That's when I decided to make this my Steam Anime Winter Sale 2016!

Since I have a huge backlog, I probably won't play anything I buy anyway, so why not make it fun at least? That's my shopping cart right now:

Also downloading two free anime games, Cupid and Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius.

Thanks to many of you for some of these suggestions

Any more (cheap) anime games I should get?

Merry Christmas everyone!

why are his genitals exposed in this comic. the comic already has a joke to it about disgaea's heavy rpg mechanics, but then on top of that there's the unrelated fact that this fellow is stretching to reveal his family jewels. like, what?

No idea what I'm even looking forward to this sale. Not like Planet Coaster is going to be heavily discounted since it's still rather new.

Hmm.

Hope I picked a good one for the giveaway. I don't normally buy bundles so I don't have spares to give away all the time. I just picked something I know is good, see that several friends still have on their wishlist, and that hasn't been bundled yet afaik.

why are his genitals exposed in this comic.

I'm guessing the joke is he sleeps in the nude and is just getting up or something. I didn't really get it either. Maybe just cheap shock value.

Because two jokes are better than one.
