Actors/Actresses who ruined their careers with a single move.

Okay you guys are good.

What about Clive Owen?

He was hot for awhile and was awesome in the stellar Children of Men... and now, I can't recall anything he's been in in 10 years. A short stint on a cable TV show?

He was the lead in a couple of films that disappointed at the box office (notably Shoot 'Em Up and The International) and I don't think he was able to recover from them. That being said, he's still a very active actor, and he's got a critically lauded TV show under his belt with The Knick, so he's far from forgotten.

I saw Shoot Em Up when it came out.
Did it ruin both him and Giamatti? It wouldn't have surprised me

Owen Wilson has been laying low recently, but not sure it was because of any particular move. I know he cancelled a few projects several years ago when he was being treated for depression (glad he got treatment though!). Looks like he is doing another Shanghai Noon with Jackie Chan tho.

Here's the thing: Every movie he's done since his contract ran out (which I think was either IM3 or the first Avengers) has made a billion. That's why they're willing to pay that much. Spider-Man: Homecoming is going to be the true test of keeping that streak alive.
Pretty sure for HC, Sony is paying and not Marvel is paying RDJ.

Lost crew I want to say as well.

I know De Ravin is on OUAT, Quinn is on Quantico I think, Naveen I think is here or there but still working, Lilly of course came back with the Hobbit Films and of course, locking down Wasp.

Fox has Bone Tomahawk but where did everyone else go?

And speaking of, Party of Five cast? I know about Lacey Chabert but where did everyone else go?

Rip Torn broke into a bank, was intoxicated, had a gun. It was enough for him to be written out of MIB 3, and 30 Rock. I'm guessing he is now completely blacklisted from Hollywood, and you have to be blacklisted really badly if a film featuing a song by Pitbull was too good for you.

I can't say Nikki Blonsky ruined her career in a single move, she was the plump girl who was the perfect fit for an already popular musical, and just couldn't translate that into further success, partly because there isn't much space for overweight ladies in film and TV.

This thread is bizarro land sometimes. TV is where it's at these days. That's why a lot of previously film only people are taking major roles in TV now. It doesn't have the negative stigma that it used to while providing a steady paycheck for several years.

But there is a lot of TV on now. So chances your favorite actor that you don't see anymore is probably a series regular right now on a show and you had no idea.

Case in point:

Literally every cast-member on Lost seems to have disappeared into the ether apart from Evangeline Lilly.

The vast majority of the main cast from LOST has been getting regular work in series that have lasted multiple years:

Jorge Garcia: Hawaii 5-0 65 episodes
Josh Holloway Colony 20 episodes (One season of Intelligence before that)
Yunjin Kim Mistresses 52 episodes
Naveen Andrews OuaT 13 episodes/ Sense8 2 seasons
Daniel Dae Kim Hawaii 5-0 7 seasons
Emilie de Ravin OuaT 106 episodes
Michael Emerson Person of Interest 100+ episodes
Henry Ian Cusick The 100 53 episodes
Elizabeth Mitchell V (1 Season), Revolution (2 Seasons), etc
Ken Leung The Night Shift 3 seasons

Basically the entire cast has done really damn well for themselves and gets regular work That's huge in Hollywood. Only Matthew Fox and Dominic Monaghan haven't done much and I don't know if there are specific reasons in both of those cases.

I'm pretty sure Fox is taking it easy. I seem to recall that he'll maybe do a movie every once in awhile, but otherwise he's just kinda done with acting. It's a shame too, I'd like to see him in more films or television shows.

True enough. I just really wanted to post those tweets to be honest LOL.

I'd say this could be the San Jones thread, too. His star was rising with the Flash Gordon movie, but his agent decided to demand more pay while the movie was still in production. The result: his lines are completely dubbed in the film and some scenes are done by a double. Ok, Ted tries to steal his semen in Ted 2...

Whoa, I've seen this movie a million times including the original run in the theaters and had never heard this.

Dominic Monaghan does a Steve Irwin style nature show called Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan. So far it has had three seasons. I think he was also in talks with Naughty Dog to appear in one of their games, but ended up in Quantum Break.

Brando Routh is on a CW show.

So his career has pretty much gone to die.

I guess he can dry his tears with his $12 million net worth.

While I'm sure it sucks that he's not getting any higher profile roles after Superman, a steady paycheck from a popular TV show will do him wonders for a few years. I imagine if Legends can make it to enough episodes for syndication, he'll be set up for life. Or at least won't have to worry about keeping the bills paid if he lives and saves right.

Quite a few actors have gravitated to TV these days, since the pay seems to be good, and the shows themselves have improved drastically in quality (well, Season 1 of Legends pissed me off, and I have yet to watch Season 2, but still).

I think those 'leaked' photos of her face being ejaculated upon did wonders for her. I certainly wasn't a fan before that, but in a weird way it did separate the person from the character she played.
I though it was topless pics. Not something that graphic. And I highly doubt she thought leaking those would help. Didn't she already have an Oscar at that point?

She deserved to have her career ruined. She released an anti-nuclear energy film 12 days before the 3 mile island incident, which basically killed the future of nuclear energy in this country. We probably could've kicked our coal and gas addiction by now if not for that.

Yeah, about that...

You don't think maybe the 3 Mile Island incident maybe had more of an effect?

Op should really update his post to layoff the Josh Hartnett bullshit.

He turned down Nolan for batman while he was taking sort of an acting break and didn't want to be pigeonholed as batman forever.

He was seriously evaluating if he even wanted to continue being an actor.

He chills in Minnesota a lot because his family is here and people don't bother him.

He's not an asshole.

yeah that's pretty stupid but he's getting paid more than he ever would as War Machine playing Lucious Lyon in Empire, so to call his career ruined would be an exaggeration.

Oh, he definitely didn't ruin his career, I'm just saying that you would be hard-pressed to find someone with a bigger ego. He even gave an interview at the time predicting that IM2 would bomb because he wasn't in it. The man is delusional.

Neve Campbell is on House of Cards now. Scott Wolf is on the NBC hospital drama the Night Shift which got renewed for a fourth season. Miles from Lost is on that show too. My wife likes that one. Jennifer Love Hewitt was on Criminal Minds, don't know if she still is or not since I don't watch it, just seen her in the commercials.

Water world

Shia Lebauf was being groomed to be Hollywood royalty and thankfully got rejected and spiraled into oblivion

I want justice and demand an explanation for Andie McDowell disappearing.

Why thankfully? I think the dude's great and every single movie I've seen him in he's been entertaining and a pleasure to watch.

Roles don't kill actors in 2016.

Box office trends do. Either get on the money train or watch your career pass you by.

McDowell has a reputation for being extremely impatient with an explosive temper. I remember a story making the rounds years ago of her once berating a young PA to the point that she broke down in tears in front of the entire set (I want to say it was on the set of Bad Girls, but don't quote me on that).
