Actors/Actresses who ruined their careers with a single move.

I feel like this is a copy pasta of one of those clickhole ads on the web. According to one of those, Lucky Number Slevin is what stalled Hartnett's career.

The leads are making money now but nowhere close to Downey. Evans and Johanssen are also not only 6 films into their contracts or so, but box office draws.

Evans especially. Cap took that guy from C list to A list and he's as synonymous with Cap as Downey is to Iron Man.

Cheadle is likely being paid less than Jeremy Renner...who made 6 million for Ultron while Johannsen made 20 and Downey made 200.

200 million?

What the fuck is Marvel thinking? Good for Downey but fucking A, Marvel.

Why do you and others act like Courtney Thorne-Smith doesn't have a career? The carrot top movie didn't hurt her at all.

Movie wise and chances for that movie to make it.

I'm unfamiliar with her work. I read in this thread she has done well for herself and that's good for her.

Didn't Gabourey Sidibe sabotage her career by not wanting to do press tours, and talking shit about production in public? I think even Samuel L. Jackson told her to fall in line and do her job.

No, that was Monique. Sadly, there really aren't many roles for someone like Sidibe beyond a lot of stereotypes, which was the same problem that Nikki Blonsky ran into after Hairspray. Young heavyset women really have it hard in the industry with regards to starring roles that aren't "fatty fall down, go boom," and Rebel Wilson seems to be mining that market all to herself.

At least Sidibe has more eyes on her these days, thanks to her role on Empire.

There's only so many bigger roles for actors and actresses. She didn't have that much of a movie career before either. She's been pretty successful on TV for decades though. Melrose Place, Ally McBeal, According to Jim, Two and a Half Men, that's a pretty solid track record. It *is* a pretty hilarious interview though and I'm glad it was posted again.

I kinda agree that Eckhart's career as a leading man stalled big time, but I don't think there was any real public thing that happened that could be traced as the cause, so I figure it's just a matter of him having a terrible agent in the wake of the praise he got for TDK.

I, Frankenstein. For some reason Hollywood thought he could be a viable action star.

Technically, Rick Moranis ruined his own career.

But I don't think anyone can fault him for leaving acting to take care of his children after his wife died.

Moranis became ultra selective over his roles and rightfully so. He's still eating off the money he made from Honey, I Shrunk The Kids.

Now Mike Myers is a textbook example of someone who ruined his own career.

My biggest mystery is why Lost actors never quite achieved big time except Evangeline Lilly. Naveen Andrews already had a decent career. But what about Jack, Sawyer and Charlie? Jack was in Bone Tomahawk which was a decent effort and that was it.

Jack may have gotten himself blacklisted for bad behavior on and off set. Who knows, but I thought he'd be a bigger deal. Sawyer is the real head scratcher. I never hear anything bad about him but he still hasn't broken into the big time for some reason. I thought for sure after Lost, Hollywood would come calling. Most of the cast are still working on the TV circuit but during the show they were like rock stars.

Seems like 90% of the suggestions here are things outside of a movie that ruined someone's career.
Cuba Gooding Jr and his awful film choices (Boat Trip) after Jerry Macguire would work here. Someone being known for being awful to work with drying up their offers doesn't.

Doesn't help when you have examples like Taylor Kisch and Avatar guy who are given chance after chance to be the next big thing before people finally give up.

Stars of popular television series often have difficulty finding work after it has ended. Happens all of the time to Star Trek actors, for instance. Producers associate them only with that role and don't want to hire them.

I agree. I just didn't add enough context to my original post and even though she is successful I'm still unfamiliar with her work. There's a slew a great and excellent actors that I'm honestly unfamiliar with and there's nothing wrong with that. My original post wasn't a shot at her or her career by the way.

Should've spent that $$$ on better writers, what a mediocre movie.

Downey is probably the face of marvel. Can't imagine someone else playing iron man

200 million. That's more then alot of movies made.

Someone else may not be able to play IRon Man right now but I would build up another character as the face of the MCU and save myself 150 million per movie.

All of a sudden it just hit me that any movie that has Downey in it NEEDS to hit 1 billion.
Cost to make the movie, Downey contract, and marketing.

Last post on this because it's off topic.

I mean, every Marvel movie has made around $650 million at the least. They can pay RDJ

When a movie is so bad you quit acting and go into retirement.

He makes a percentage, so they have to hit a billion for him to make as much.

Here's the thing: Every movie he's done since his contract ran out (which I think was either IM3 or the first Avengers) has made a billion. That's why they're willing to pay that much. Spider-Man: Homecoming is going to be the true test of keeping that streak alive.

Speaking of Wisley Snipes, I heard that he was supposed to play Howard's character on Empire but Teraji demanded Howard.

I'd watch Empire if it starred Snipes tbh.

Both were bad with their money, with Snipes going to prison for Tax evasion. Plus Snipes is apparently a gigantic asshole on set, at least on Blade 3.

Blade 3 is a special cause. They were using him as a stepping stone to launch a Hannibal king series. I haven't heard anything beyond that.

Mickey Rourke? He's one of my favourite actors, actually, but he made his own bed when he went around pissing off prominent and powerful movie producers, got himself locked up in prison, had drug problems, an abusive marriage (for him) and quit acting for boxing and those facial "surgeries" when he obviously has body dysmorphia and mental issues. I kinda feel sorry for him really, since if you watch any interviews with the guy he has a rough edge but deep down underneath that seems like a really kind man hurt by his experiences in life leading him to be bitter.

Kevin Costner in Waterworld & The Postman. Almost killed his career.

Geena Davis in Cutthroat Island. Killed her career.

Steven Seagal just being a complete asshole to everyone put Hollywood off him and he just started doing direct to video films.

Charlie Sheen and Shia Lebeouf both having mental breakdowns.

Sean Connery in The Avengers & League of Extraordinary Gentleman. Think it was after those flops he finally went "fuck it" and retired.

Robert Downey Jr. is fine nowadays but like his good friend Mel Gibson went through a real career dive.

Evangeline Lilly got the Wasp role, wouldn't be surprised if she leverages that going forward, since it's showing a far better side of her than her one note Lost character.

Literally every cast-member on Lost seems to have disappeared into the ether apart from Evangeline Lilly.

Yeah, I can't think of them really being in anything big recently, TV or film, except her, Michelle Rodriguez, and Michael Emerson (O'Quinn's an exception since he was well-known for the Stepfather movies before Lost). Ken Leung at least had a bit part in TFA.
