Double Dragon 4 (PS4/Steam) teaser trailer

I didn't even know Double Dragon Neon was poorly received. I thought it was damn awesome, to the songs, the jokes and such, the callbacks to 8 bit style...

I think most people who actually gave the game a chance really enjoyed it. IGN"s horrible review probably turned off a ton of people.

Fun Fact: The director of Double Dragon Neon, Sean Velasco, directed Shovel Knight!

Double Dragon 3 was awful on NES but people forget that the arcade version is even worse. Imagine an arcade game with mobile play to win mechanics in 1991!
And the Genesis version of the arcade game is the worst of them all...it's virtually unplayable as you die over and over to some of the worst hit detection in a game ever.

I played it at a friends house cause he liked it and wanted to play co op and was instantly hooked. Bought it for myself and never looked back

Aw yis. Can't wait for this. Double dragon 2 NES one of my all time favorites.

Get out.

I always think of IGNs botched review of God Hand. I just can't take them seriously.

Looks pretty cool. I didn't mind the fact hat there was platforming in DD2, it was just poorly done. If done well it could definitely add to the game.

/edit: I'm sure poeple in general really liked Neon (as they should). It's just certain ignorant media outlets that gave the game a bad rap.

Didn't know this was a thing and I have to say I'm disappointed. Doesn't feel like a new game based on the small amount we've seen

Gonna look up the developers. Could end up good. Yeah I loved Neon too. I wasnt feeling it at first but when I discovered how deep the system was along with super powers I ended up loving it.

Edit:

The creator is on the directing side! so gotta be decent then

I gotta say some of the sprite work doesnt match well in the background but I gotta say im optimistic

Put me in the "would have preferred more Neon" pile.

I guess the difference is that this is done by some of the original Technos staff whereas Neon was done by Wayforward but I have no clue how many of them from Wayforward moved to Yacht Club Games.

I don't know if "Arc System Works" means that some Guilty Gear or BlazBlue people work on this, but color me interested.

The real Double Dragon 4 (Super) is fucking awesome, as was Neon, so this has a lot to live up to.

the art is kind of bad. the nes sprites are fine but the anime ninja girls and weird low res pixelated jpeg-ish backgrounds look out of place.

There may be some GG/BB staff on board, but the big selling point in the staff credits is that it's be headed up by key staff from the original games (creator, composer, and artist).

Oh sweet, totally missed that. Yeah I'll try it.

But why base the art direction on DD2 NES? Why not the arcade versions?

My sentiments too, although even arcade Double Dragon 2 was a pale imitation of the original. What's lacking most in the NES versions though are the meaty sound effects. Gimme some of that crunch!

Oh yeah forgot about the Wayforward exodus. I don't know, I guess I'm just not the right market for this game as my fondest DD memories are the Genesis games.

The arcade sprites are junky compared to the NES games. Especially Abobo if he's in this game. I hope to God Abobo is in this. He's the series mascot in my eyes.

Arcade Abobo just doesn't do it the same.

Like Deebo vs Mr T.

The Arcade Double Dragon games were lame.

This. Go back and play the Arcade DD games again. They play like hot garbage. The first two NES games are infinitely superior.

whaaa? you guys a crazy.

double dragon arcade was so fun. nes was cool but more like an RPG. (you can't even jump kick without 3 hearts was stupid)

1st game where you can kick the crap out of 2 player. that was so fun.

Neon was great as an homage... but NES Double Dragon is Double Dragon to most.

i would have preferred more of a middle ground between the NES games and Super DD but this is still great

For me I played the original on Sega Master System and then DD 2 and 3 on the NES.

Then afterwards I experienced playing Streets of Rage 2. I never played the other DD games on SNES.

I have played Double Dragon Neon

Double Dragon Advance is pretty much that middle ground you're looking for. It's got the arcade sprites but they added the NES moves like the flying knee and some Super Double Dragon moves and weapons as well.

No, it totally was. DD Arcade was probably the first BEU that I ever played. I had tons of fun playing it with my kid brother at my local Pizza Hut back in the late '80s. It was great for the time because there was really nothing else to compare it to. There was no Final Fight or TMNT yet. But when playing it again fairly recently I was pretty shocked that it held up so poorly.

Tons of lives were lost here.

Because it was a shitty, shitty part. I'm no fan of instant death traps, but if they balance it out better in IV it could work. Also it's probably worth noting that to jump you had to press B+A on the NES pad. That...sucked. There's no way they're doing that in the new game, so that's a huge improvement already.
