Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Why does Paint it Back get so intense sometimes? I'm only painting nice pictures.

its completely normal for a casual picross game to make you want to curl into fetal position and wither away from existence.

;_;

Just chiming in to say, if you love fucking getting destroyed -> mastering a game. Towerclimb is on sale for like $9 and it's as good as a Spelunky successor as I was expecting. It's fucking amazing, and although it's not quite as dense in ass clenching moments from Level one, it's just as consistent in vulnerability, it has AMAZING music, and you clench like 10x as hard when you start to get to the hell equivalents/start getting far into the Yama run equivalents. There's some advanced movement mechanics that aren't required but feel so great when you pull them off as well, I love this game.

Fuckin worth it.
The dev's next game looks equally awesome. It's a precision platformer that layers on new and interesting mechanics throughout. RPS loved it based on a recent preview

When the jumping is the point, it rarely feels as good and as satisfying as it does in Celeste. In 2016 we’ve had N++ and Flat Heroes and that’s about it.
No single hook presented itself over the course of my time with it, but it introduces new ideas across each room which force you to attain new levels of mastery over those abilities I mentioned above.

Just got:

1. Rocket League
2. Roller Coaster Tycoon
3. Torchlight 2
4. Stardew Valley

all for $28. I also got a $20 Steam card for my birthday, so I only paid $8. I'm so stoked.

While it's cool that I've never seen this game before and now got my eye on it, Towerclimb wasn't a mistype of Towefall, rofl, or you just baited the shit out of me /shrug.

Can't wait for the surge of more Spelunkyettes.

They're both great. Flip a coin or pick the one that looks more appealing to you.

hard to choose. love both games. maybe doom for now then wolfenstein (and the old blood) later.

One is more action focused (Doom), the other is more story focused and hos some stealth gameplay (if you want). Pick based on that.

Wolfenstein has a *bit* more innate replayability because the story has something of an A and B path, but, dude. Doom is a much better game.

Wolfenstein. Doom is more like a proof of concept. Peters out really quick.

Doom is good but I like Wolfenstein quite a bit more.

Dang, pretty good responses for both games! Looks like both are good, but some of you suggest Wolfenstein more as a SP game so I'll go with that then. Thanks guys!

How is Costume Quest?

Fun little Paper Mario esque RPG. Very laid back. Worth buying with the bundle that contains the second game.

Doom isn't really worth playing as an MP game, for the record. All the praise is for the campaign.

Picked up Dragon's Dogma and been playing it. It's pretty cool, I wish there was a dodge button like in Dark Souls but i'm getting used to it. Also wish you could create a monk character but haven't found anything that fits that.

Thinking of buying the $10 Bundle Stars Nemesis Bundle here.

I'm buying it for Chroma Squad and Forced Showdown, but curious if any of the other games are worth playing. I don't know much about them.

Oh man it's so relaxing and fun just to fly around the planet in Grow Up when fully upgraded the glider. That pop-in though.

I still think it very much is worth the 5 euro asking price.

Doom ($20) or Wolfenstein ($8)?

Which is the better single player?

NuDOOM has outstanding, fast-paced run'n'gun gameplay and is as much of a "PC-Shooter" as something can be, virtually no story, but in the case of NuDOOM's fast gameplay that is a big pro because you probably don't wanna stop.

Wolfenstein too got outstanding gameplay and feels like a blend between some more oldschool concepts and modern post-halo/cod stuff and includes a surprisingly good story (certainly better than the vast majority of action games (altho that's not too hard lol)).

These two + SUPERHOT are probably the best shooters of the last few years, so i'd say fuck it and buy both.

If you really only wanna buy one tho, go to DOOM if you don't care about story and go to Wolfenstein if you do or if NuDoom is too fast paced for you.

I played and beat DOOM. I recently got Wolfenstein for $10 on PSN store and played the first chapter and immediately uninstalled. Gameplay felt outdated and I didn't like the theme of the game. DOOM was on point though. Graphics, sound, controls, feel, etc. DOOM is very much a SP game (ignore the MP lol). They even added an arcade mode for SP.

Off-topic but maybe someone here would know, I purchased a RAP 4 from a certain place but saw it was being sold cheaper on another. I purchased it on the other site and cancelled it on the first site but it didn't go through, apparently. There's an older version and a newer version of the RAP 4 and the boxes of the old and new are identical. If one of them is the older version and one is the newer version, could I send back the older version to the store that sent me the newer version? Would I get any issues?

Doom has repetitive gameplay where the only threat later on is imps. The sound design of weapons is horrid, you feel like you're skating everywhere, and the entire second half is just you going from arena to arena fighting waves upon waves. How is this considered a great and complete game? You know what, fuck it, I give up. On life.

Catacomb Kids and Vagante are the games you're looking for

Take note that the opening chapter of Wolfenstein is not a good indicator of what comes later. The game's level design and story both improve after the title sequence.

Why wouldn't you just send the old one back to the place you ordered it from?

Super secret Bastion key inside. Not sure if it works :P

When your only argument is self-wanking snark... you know, you're right. That I care about something so trivial means I need to take a break. Have fun, apologies to everyone for me being kind of an ass. I'll go put my head in some dirt for a few days. Or years.

I can see why rocket league is pretty popular. Just made a last second goal to prevent OT.

I can also see why rocket league can be rage inducing, as my first 2 games had a guy doing as much harm as he was doing good. And my last match had an opponent help me score lol

Some of the classes actually do have a dodge skill you can unlock. I never ended up using it since I got so used to not having a dodge and learned how to play around it though, so I don't have any further tips than that.

Also, bookmark this mod for when you inevitably get sick of the game's terrible fast travel system:
http://www.nexusmods.com/dragonsdogma/mods/96/?
It lets you move "portcrystals" around the map so you can travel to anywhere and makes the game approximately 800% better.

Can't wait for the surge of more Spelunkyettes.
My dude, Spelunky is over 8 years old. I don't think that train is ever leaving the station.

After wasting $70 on games I'll never play (sigh), I decided to buy Titan Quest Anniversary Edition for $5. Grim Dawn's theme turned me off and is poorly optimized. I think I'll enjoy Titan Quest more.

Why wouldn't you just send the old one back to the place you ordered it from?

Because one of them is cheaper. If the old one ends up cheaper, could I send it back and get the new one for the price of the old one in case that ends up being the cheaper one?

You alright? You seem very down. We all like different things <3

For example I think The Last of Us is just alright.

Kinda torn between getting Grim Dawn, Darkest Dungeon, Satellite Reign and Invisible Inc. Actually, I'm pretty much sold on Invisible Inc and I plan on getting one of the others. Help me, SteamGAF! Which should I drop?

Played the first episode of Hitman. It's fantastic!

In Blood Money I didn't even finish the tutorial but here I am thirsty for more. I am thinking about buying the season pass and playing the episodes from time to time. Because while I want to play more and dick around in the game, I don't know if I'm ready for everything at once.

I feel like I'm better off buying Witcher 3 goty instead of the DLC for my already owned W3 copy.

I liked both games for very different reasons.

Wolfenstein had a much more by the numbers modern campaign executed well, I liked the alternate history setting and even enjoyed the stealth and when shit went down it was a competent shooter. Duel wielding has never been so fun.

Doom was like a violent drug though, it doesn't have the same story beats as Wolfenstein but the combat is second to none. It had the same effect on me as Hotline Miami, it put me into a drug like trance with the music and on-screen violence blending together so well. And you're right, it was waves of enemies but honestly I savoured every fight in that game. If you couldn't get into the combat I can see how the rest of the game wouldn't appeal, but I found it very well paced with a quiet moment after every battle to allow you to explore and find collectables. I also couldn't disagree more about the skating on ice comment, the controls are incredibly tight and it had a good sense of humour.

Both great and very different games.

P.S. Don't give up on life if someone else has a different opinion.

Kinda torn between getting Grim Dawn, Darkest Dungeon, Satellite Reign and Invisible Inc. Actually, I'm pretty much sold on Invisible Inc and I plan on getting one of the others. Help me, SteamGAF! Which should I drop?

Grim Dawn was already a humble monthly game so youre good there. As was Sattelite Reign.

Darkest Dungeon and Invisible Inc werent and Darkest Dungeon has "highlight title" written all over it.

But im very cynical with my purchases these days so...

Debating whether to get Final Fantasy III or Resident Evil 5 with my Assassin's Creed Director's Cut refund since the game was giving me major issues and wouldn't work correctly with an Xbox One controller.

So are you recommending I get Darkest Dungeon? Or are you recommending I get Grim Dawn/Satellite Reign?
