Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Finally got around to using my EVO buttons...

I got a HRAP4 from a friend, but was frustrated to see it doesn't have the PC switch. How many revisions of that stick don't have it? It's kind of weird how they advertise PC support on their official site, but some revisions don't have the XInput switch. Has anyone gotten it to work like an XInput stick under the new Big Picture Mode or through a wrapper? I tried both and had no luck.

The first launch with the Kuro buttons did not have it. Any with the Hayabusa buttons do have x-input.

Does anybody have suggestions on how to store lots of buttons/sticks?

Right now I have tons of stuff in a shoebox, but I'd like to get more organized.

Those little plastic boxes with dividers in them you can space yourself are rad. You can get them at like walmart. There are drawer like ones too.

I saw something a while back of some guy who stored his buttons, spare levers, etc. in gerber banana baby food containers than put those in those see-through bins/totes.

Edit: Here is the link to what I was talking about:

Awesome. I think I know exactly what you're talking about. Have to hit up Sam's club today anyway. :)

I bought a HRAP4 kai a few days ago, never had a stick before. But I'm not really sure whether I like it. The buttons are really sensitive which lead me to misclicking things all the time and the joystick feels really awkward to use. Will I get used to it over time? I'm having a lot of trouble performing double Z's in a combo, half circles and circles in specials. I'm also having trouble hitting even just hitting the diagonal corners. This has been my 3rd day with it and I've used it for 10 hours so far. Will I get used to it with practice.? I can do all those things perfectly on my DS4 pad(can't use it tho since it makes my hands hurt).

also does the Seimitsu LS-40 fit inside the RAP4?

Whaaaat! Gamestop has them in stock?? *frantically searches for random shit to trade in*

Also, post pics and impressions!

Don't have it yet. They only got one in and it was preordered (i didn't even know they were doing that), so they ordered it through their online store. It'll be here next week. I'll definitely post pics when I have it in hand. :)

Yes it does, it is recommended to pair it with a S-plate.

It does take time to get good with using a stick since you have to unlearn muscle memory essentially. Your brain knows how to throw a dragon punch, but your hand needs to do a completely different motion to get it out.

Is the LS 32 the least stiff seimitsu stick?

I don't think so, I believe the LS-58 is the softest Seimitsu stick. I could be wrong, I never tried it myself. That's not why I come to Seimitsu.

Ended up getting a MAS stick from a local used vinyl store for $45.

It's in pretty decent shape, just really dusty.

Should be a fun project getting it to work with my old MC chuthlu for use with my (newly acquired) Saturn. I've never installed a neutrik adaptor so I'm pretty excited as I've always wanted to learn.

To my surprise everything internally was soldered instead of QC'd. Was this common for stock MAS sticks?

You'll have to stick with it for a little while to get better with it. It takes longer for some people than others so don't feel discouraged at all but don't expect to be a professional on it within a month. Your muscle memory will develop over time and make it easier.

A lot of how long it takes depends on how old you are and your video game history in my opinion. I used to play in arcades when younger and on sticks when certain friends brought them over before getting my own about 10 years ago. The adjustment to having a stick at my disposal and pretty much dropping pads completely was obviously much quicker than someone starting from scratch.

The LS-40-01 should fit inside the HRAP4 as mentioned above.

Does Qanba usually release multiple colours of the same stick?
The Obsidian looks good but I want a white one instead of black due to fingerprints.

Not usually. Also a white stick named Obsidian doesn't make a lot of sense. :P
They did release a white version of the Eightarc Onyx (albeit with a different name, since you can't really have Onyx be white). I wouldn't be surprised if Qanba did something similar for this stick if it sells well.

Never used a stick Before but looking to pick one up, rather go for a "premium" stick from the start for my ps4

How is the Mad catz TE2+ stick? How do you normally connect them, with usb? I Believe the cable that comes with it is 3m, would it be possible to extend the cable? I guess wireless is not an option, or If it is Does it come with a small delay? Whats the likelyhood this stick Will be compatable with a PS5 (could you use your ps3 stick on ps4?)

Please guide me through the arcade sticks and give me suggestions :)

(Were going to use 250 euro on a steering Wheel but changed my mind towards a good stick instead)

I try to steer people away from the TE2+, that series has been having various issues and I'm not convinced MCZ is going to be around forever to help if it breaks. I recommend the Hori HRAP4 for PS4 use.

Sticks connect via USB and you can use any USB extension cable without issue. AFAIK there aren't wireless sticks for PS4 but yes they can add delay. For PS5 compatibility, that's hard to tell. For PS3 sticks there are ways to use them on PS4, either built into games or by using a converter. I imagine converters will eventually exist for PS4 to PS5 but I can't say for sure of course.

Don't go with the Mad Catz stick, I always recommend Hori. If you don't like the Hori stick/buttons, you can always easily replace them with Sanwa or Seimitsu parts.

I agree with what the others said. I wouldn't get MadCatz right now because their latest sticks have issues and it looks like the company could very well close within a year so you'd be boned if it breaks. The Hori RAP4 is a fine "premium" stick for a good price, and it's easy to swap out parts if you decide to do so later.

Alternatively there's the Qanba Crystal, though I've heard that's harder to swap parts because of the LED buttons.

e: Also if that teyah input lag chart scared you off of getting a HRAP4, I wouldn't be concerned. Plenty of people own HRAP4s and have had no issue with input lag. Don't treat that chart as gospel.

Do we know yet how easy it's going to be to mod the Obsidian? I'm thinking of going for it, but if I can't throw a Hayabusa lever in there it's a no go.

Also, if I'm going for a new stick, I guess it's a decent enough time to share my old ones...

The main issue with the Hayabusa is that it's pretty wide. Looking at the layout, I wouldn't be shocked if the 5-pin connector overlaps the micro switch on the stock Sanwa buttons. It might work if you also switch out the buttons with something with a lower profile, like a set of Hayabusas or Seimitsu PS-15s, but I'd personally be wary about trying it before someone else has.

Are there any pictures of the internals floating around? I'd love to see them. Might be able to use one to just compare some of the JLFs and Hayabusas I have lying around.

edit: I guess in a worst case scenario, I could just unscrew the smaller board that the 5 pin connector on the Hayabusa is on, and just kinda bend everything down.

Not that I've seen yet, unfortunately - I'm curious to see them myself. My concerns mostly just come from eyeballing it and noting that the gap between the stick and the buttons looks a little shorter than some sticks I know are already tricky to fit a Hayabusa into, yet take a JLF pretty comfortably.

I hadn't even realised detaching the connector board was possible before you mentioned it, but now that you have, it does give me pause to think on some other projects...

thanks for the replies, yeah definately avoiding the mad catz, saw all the problems a few pages back

How does the new obsidian stick (I love the design)
https://arcadeshock.com/products/qanba-obsidian-arcade-joystick-ps4-ps3-pc-x-input

compare to the Hori HRAP4?

Is there a new Hori fighting edge coming 2017, any links / information if I should rather wait for that stick, compared to the obsidian / Hori HRAP4? :)

Arcadeshock has been teasing a new Fighting Edge for 2017. Hori had a prototype at an event last year, I forget which one.

I odn't know if anybody has an Obisidian yet, but the thing looks nice. You'll have to wait for hands on impressions until later this month.

Double post for great justice:

Do seimitsu springs fit a hayabusa stick?

Need to order some, but arcade shock doesn't sell them and really don't want to pay for shipping through focus attack on a 3 dollar order.

They should be able to. Try wrapping it with a LS-32 spring and it should feel pretty good. Should tighten it up just a little bit more than stock JLF.

Did you get your Panthera in yet? Mine should be delivered by the afternoon.

Word, thanks.

Problem with pronouns in that last post, lol. Arcadeshock doesn't sell sanwa springs, only seis. I'm buying a couple Hayabusa from them right now and need springs, so want to make sure the seimitsu springs will work.

I'm sure you understood. That post is for my own edification.

Mine will be here tomorrow. Went and organized all my sticks/buttons and realized I didn't have anymore Hayabusas. Going to put both stick and buttons in the panthera and play on it for awhile.
