Scalebound was very ambitious game and looked way too huge and hard to develop then previous Platinum works. If i'm not mistaken, that's also first PG open-world project with some kind of online component. If they were able to make good "linear" experience, that doesn't mean that they were able to do the same with bigger scale project. If there is one thing that Platinum is known for, besides great character action combat, its efficiency. They have delivered projects on time and budget consistently under various publishers. Heck they were brought in to finish work on MGR and Star Fox when others were struggling. That is why so many of us find it so hard to believe that Platinum was having issues with deadline. Combine that with the fact that this not the first horror story to come out of MS third party relationship (it's not even the first one this generation).

MS has been known for being hostile in occasions, but even besides that, I wouldn't spend much time defending the integrity of a big corporation, especially one with so many stories cropping up for the same issues.Scalebound was very ambitious game and looked way too huge and hard to develop then previous Platinum works. I'm not saying that there is no MS fault in this disaster and all responsibility is only on PG. I'm already said in this thread that i think they both fucked up with this project in some ways, and until we didn't have more details about situation around game, it's unreasonable to attack Microsoft like this is only their fault, like some people are doing here.MS has been known for being hostile in occasions, but even besides that, I wouldn't spend much time defending a big corporation for being unreasonable, that's kinda their thing.

You habe a lot of fun attacking these strawmen don't you?No way, this must be wrong, Phil? No, not possible, Phil will never do that, probably a suit from the top made him do it but Phil will never cancelled a new exclusive ip, he is not that guy, he pushed a ton of new ips on his years as the head of first party on microsoft, games such as... mmmm.... mmmmmm.... oh I see...
I see the "every cancelled game would have been the greatest game of all times" rule applies as always.
Sucks.
For EVERYBODY.
The games were trash. Poorly developed trash that you'd expect form the likes of High Voltage not Platinum.
Licensed games is not an excuse. For such a renowned studio, you'd think they'd put more effort in and want their name to be connected with well developed games.

All this baseless speculation colored by which "side" people are on is disheartening.
And MS making an impossible contract? Seems counterproductive, but still on PG for taking it. Don't wanna be forced to take contracts like that? Go 2nd party or make games that can sell.
Nier Automata is nearly finished. And its performance or quality dont have a real impact on PG's future except for the odds to get someone to contract them again.
The truth is, Scalebound was the title where a good chunk of their staff was assigned. That's a problem if they dont manage to find something fast.
Xbox is doomed
And a lot of people like Phil Spencer, I never knew why
because my thread was closed, I'll put the OG messge here if people still want to talk about it:
I don't want to belittle the people who were looking forward to this, because it really fucking sucks for them.
However, in the cold light of day, how many people are truly disappointed by this? I'd bet the truly upset people here are outnumbered by people showing "concern" and "disappointment" who were never planning on getting it in the first place - if they even had the right platform to play it on.
Just a speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if MS set unachievable deadlines and goals to void the contract on their terms. Sleazy, but business is business, and MS holds all the power over Platinum. It would explain devs (especially Kamiya) being extremely stressed out too.
This is just speculation. He also predicted Switch calling it "Nintendo Vita", but again it was all speculation and jokes.
What the fuck, really.

There is probably a better thread to talk about the future of Microsoft Game Studios titles and the landscape ahead: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1331807

Why did he even release The Witness on XBO then?
Errrr, this is just speculation from a random journo (sorry Pep), are you really trying to get a headline from it? Some of you are trying too hard to blame Phil for this when it's clearly a decision coming from the top.
Okay, this is fair.
Ah but it looks like you yourself are clearly on a "side" here and want to just shit talk. Should probably take your own advice.
