Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers [Switch] Confirmed

It's more like SF2 Definitive Edition. Actually, Ultra SF2 is a fitting name...at least it seems right now.

Wonder if there are anymore new characters or stages that haven't been shown.

Seems some old stages have been remixed?

I have no idea why you are trying to justify price in your last (2-3) post but stop.

He's not trying to justify the price, he's just trying to point out that we don't actually know that 40$ is the price for US/EU.

It seems to be the price for the Japanese Physical version but it's not necessarily the same price for other regions.

Though with this being Capcom, it's not unbelievable.

So we magically expect price to drop 40$ to reasonable price like 10-15$ because its DIGITAL at west? When did last time that happened

Honestly, I think this is a waaaay more interesting proposition than a port of one of the fighters that's already on every other system. It's something unique. And portable ST can't be a bad thing... right?

Darkstalkers Resurrection was released digitally in the west for $15 USD and had a PS3 disc release in Japan at $40 USD.

They had a little on Treehouse just now. Game is slooooooow. Seeing casual players doing SRKs on the pro controller leads me to believe that they put in the input leniency that JWong was reporting.

To clarify, it's about the same price for the retail and digital versions:

価格:パッケージ版:4,990円+税 (Retail package edition)
ダウンロード版:4,620円+税 (Download edition)

All the info is here:

Street Fighter V PSN US - $59.99 USD

Street Fighter V PSN Japan - ¥7990 (approx $70 USD)

Games usually cost more in Japan, even digitally.

I know this. I import heavily and have lived there.

I was clarifying that the digital and retail versions are listed as being about the same price.

Same here. I am pointing out that games can cost different amounts in different regions and on different formats.

This will be a deal breaker if true. Just release arcade perfect ST on new consoles is all I ask. They can keep E. Ryu and V. Ken.

Anyone know why the sprites in HDTR looked so off. Even in the early screenshots they looked fine.

IIRC, the artists redrew each still animation frame without consideration for the surrounding frames. That made the animation rather jarring. Also the backgrounds were not as muted as they should have been relative to the foreground.

In short, the artists (and supervisory staff) were not experienced with video game work.

Okay fine but why did the proportions look so off. It was hideous when you compared to the original sprites.

They were just comic book artists and didn't know how hard is was to animate sprites. It went over their heads since they were just redrawing frames but they didn't know how to animate it correctly like how a actual animator would.

Some random observations from looking at the screenshots.

- At least there's the option for classic backgrounds this time. The HDR backgrounds were crap.
- HD backgrounds are zoomed in compared to both the originals and HDR.
- Will the HD sprites still have jaggies due to not being the right sizes?
- Hope it's classic music only. The remixes wore thin fast.
- Redesigned overlay (bars, names, etc) from HDR is gone. Wasn't very different, doesn't make much difference.
- Hope they finally use GGPO this time, but it won't happen.

Am I the only one truly excited about this ?

I wanted a ST port since forever, especially in a portable system.

Now not only this is portable, it also has 2 controller so I can play against anyone anywhere.

Hell I play more Super SFII on the WiiU than SFV on the PC ( lack of arcade mode did that though)

Can an SF guru help me understand all the hate for this? Is it just the price?

I really don't care for the UDON artwork (I tried to like it but just don't like the art style), but given that sprite version is included I think it's actually really interesting.

Assuming it plays accurately, In that mode it's essentially a chance to replay SSF2 with some new characters added. Violent Ken looks fun and the stage backdrop tweaks are cool.

Agree that $40 seems steep but I'm way more comfortable paying $40 for this than similar for SF5-- as crazy as that sounds-- since I prefer to play arcade mode / offline vs. mode.

I'd expect also since it's a Capcom game rather than a 1st party Nintendo game the price can actually drop pretty quickly. $40 is high but at $20-25 I'm definitely in.

Why do you have to be like that, lol? What's wrong with using both soundtracks, and the player having the option to choose one or the other?...

Why not? Capcom used GGPO on Darkstalkers and Marvel origins.

From the impressions so far from Justin Wong, it's definitely not a straight up ST port but a "new" SF2. Definitely still gonna get it even at the crazy price since I love SF2 to death.

EDIT: It's up on Treehouse stream.

The price is ridiculous and the level of effort (I.e. Almost none) is worrisome for future third party support. If all they could get Capcom to showcase for the big reveal of their new hardware is some overpriced, glorified rom hack it doesn't bode well for future support. Seems like a lot of publishers are not all in on Switch.

As badly as I want a street fighter game on my ninty console, 40$ is too much even for the latest version. Wtf, that's a 20 y old game or smth
