What system are you buying Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild for?

Wii U for sure. Not going to pay $360 plus tax for the Switch and the game when it's unclear if the console with succeed. And this is not a game you want to wait for if you can avoid it.

I probably will, the days of me spending enough time playing games to justify buying consoles at launch are long gone. I'll pick up a switch in a year or two when there is a broader library of titles.

It will be a long time before I can reasonably buy a switch considering i'm a poor college student. But, I could always play it on Cemu if it becomes compatible because I can't even afford a Wii U.

Given the price and the offer they showed of the Switch, getting this on WiiU (which i already own) seems like a no brainer.
720p to 900p seems also like a pathetic jump, so eh.

Sigh...

In the event the Switch version of BoW runs substantially better, then Switch. I plan on picking one up anyway, but was trying to avoid the day one craze. I don't mind playing on the Wii U (in fact I like the Wii U's gamepad) but I certainly don't want an inferior product.

Nintendo will optimize it on the Wii U, I'm sure.

I want to know how to do this.

I might honestly go for the WiiU version? Considering I've already got the thing hooked up. For me it'll totally depend on whether my flatmates and I decide to go for the Switch at launch.

So basically I'll get the game at launch but I don't know if I'll get the console, haha. (I do really need Splatoon 2 and Fire Emblem Warriors tho. So eventually I'll end up with the thing.)

Wii U. It's where this Zelda belongs.

Also, this game looks so beautiful and detailed that play it in a 6 inch screen would be a capital crime.
Such a shame you are unable to connect the Switch to the same TV where your Wii U is and play the game at a sightly higher resolution than the Wii U version.

I'm not sure which version I'll get yet. What's better—being able to play outside of my house, or having a secondary touch screen with a map and items? I can't decide.

My Wii U is staying plugged in for several more years at least, so that isn't a factor.

Hi! I will.

I'll double dip and get BotW on Switch later in the year when more games drop for it, but in the meantime I'll enjoy the game on Wii U.

Me, as i'm not buying a switch any time soon after that announcement, and I might as well get the most out of the Wii U, as it was my first ever Nintendo home console so I have plenty of games left to play on it. Unless it turns out it's a bad port or whatever.

Assuming the Wii U version isn't terrible, I'll definitely get it. Until Mario everything on the Switch that is on my alley is improved Wii U games (Zelda, Mario Kart) and I actually bought a Wii U, so...

pretty sure thats been been removed from the WiiU version.

IGN is claiming Wii U version runs better than Switch version right? That's one concern. Another is buying a console for one game when nothing of note will be available until the holiday.

After careful consideration, I'm dropping Nintendo entirely after 3DS is dropped. I want to get this game, but both of the consoles it's on are shit and the game runs at 15-20FPS on both. Maybe I'll emulate it at some point.

I probably won't, since I don't already have a Wii U. Will likely get the Switch version during the holiday season.

Misread the thread title as "Will you buy the Zelda BOTW WiiU ?"

Count me in the "disappointed in Switch, will get Wii U version unless it's considerably worse" wagon. :/

Hopefully Nintendo won't be up for some shady shit like they did with Twilight Princess where they made it nearly impossible to get a Gamecube copy in Spain. Although considering they removed the tablet map in order to make the Wii U version less attractive...

I had my credit card out ready to order a switch before the presentation last night, but after how lack luster that was I will be purchasing on Wii U and not buying a switch at launch.

What was it in last night's presentation that had you go from ready to pull the trigger to NOPE? What complete transformation happened during that one hour that changed your mind?

What did you think the Switch was going to be? Was it the games lineup? The price? I mean, there wasn't any new revelatory info that completely changed what the Switch was from the October reveal. I'm just confused as to why so many people are like, "oh man I was ready to purchase but after the presentation...meh".

Was it the fact that you can play the damn newest hottest most epic Zelda handheld?! Was it the graphical improvements that got you down? Was it the new additions to great franchises like Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? What?! WHAT?!

Ok sorry to yell I'm just baffled.

I will too.
400$CAD for a switch and no pack-in games is just... no. (And even if it was cheaper, I would probably won't have the money to buy it anyway)

And then, that specific version will become rare like the GameCube's Twilight Princess so I better get a copy quick. I'm a sucker for rare stuff.

The total would be $359.98 plus tax. Sales tax in Texas is 8.25% so the grand total would be $432.98

Definitely buying Wii U version. Nintendo lost their damn minds. $300 console, $80 joycon, $70 pro controller, pitiful launch lineup, online sub..... nah.

Well for me at least, they didn't show anything that interested me outside of Zelda and Xenoblade 2, and I don't expect XB2 to be out until much later so buying a Switch at launch would really be just for BoTW.

But to be fair, from first impressions, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 don't seem all that different from their Wii U counterparts. And Super Mario Odyssey is the only other new game coming in 2017 with massive appeal. For the initial months, I bet a majority of Switch buyers will be doing so primarily for BotW.

At launch, sure. But buying a console that you know will have games you intend to buy in the future means you are not spending $360 on a console that only plays BotW. Thus the short-sighted viewpoint.

That said I totally get not wanting to drop $300 plus another $60 on a console that you will only be playing said $60 game on for several months, especially if you have a Wii U and technically don't need the Switch in order to play said $60 game.

But let's be realistic, if you are dropping $360 on a Nintendo Switch with absolutely no intention of buying any other games outside BotW in the future then that's a little silly.

And if you spend $300 on a Switch, play Zelda for the first few months until more games you want come out then you did not spend $360 just to play Zelda. You spent that money to play all future Switch titles you might want.

How much worse will the WiiU version of the game look? I guess it's in 720p (while the Switch version is at 900p at max) and there is less/no antialiasing and worse LOD? It's 30fps on both consoles, right?

-Probably its because I think generally its all a little pricier than people thought it would be.
-Switch version possibly performing worse than WiiU version.
-Battery life not being great.
-Switch not having a a decent launch window lineup.
-Lackluster and paid online services.

All those variables combined kinda make buying the Switch and Zelda Switch less enticing

But when they drop the price of the Switch to $200 during the holidays, then I'm saving money by waiting.

A week ago I would have said no way, but right now I may have to see what DF says about the two before buying.

For me personally:

1. I have a Wii U
2. the Wii U version is the original, uncompromised vision for the game.
3. it may not perform any better on the Switch
4. the Switch itself looks less appealing as a launch buy (things that aren't Zelda's fault), which means I may not have much need for one

wrt #4, the single biggest thing is paying for online and what that does to ports like Splatoon, Mario Kart, and Smash for me. e.g. make me ignore them.

As its the healthy choice. And i normally buy systems day one. Lets who bites first

Me. I'm not going to pay $540 CDN to play this game when I get practically the same experience for $80 CDN instead. I would have been tempted if the Switch version had a substantial graphical upgrade, but since they're essentially identical, I'll go for WiiU.

I can't understand why Nintendo is releasing the Wii U version the same day. IMHO, it removes a big incentive* to buy a switch on launch day.

* for the people who still own a Wii U (and there aren't many of us)

Definitely buying it on the Wii U. Nothing about the Switch gives me confidence in its long term success, and the launch lineup is abysmal. This will be the first Nintendo console I don't buy at launch.

Why the fuck would I buy a Switch for this game when my Smash machine can run it. Slightly better graphics, woopde fucking doo. I'll settle for a worse framerate because God forbid optimization.

Nintendo is a joke.

I'm going to buy it for my Wii U, never had any intentions to buy the Switch and after that presentation yesterday I feel like I will not need it anytime soon
