I dunno if it came up yet: So in the last split second of the trailer, you can see Zelda trying to stop Link (?) from pulling the Master Sword out of it's pedestal, or at least that's what I make of it - are there theories of what's going on already?

It's the first post on this page but thanks for the screen capture, it does look like that for sure.

Edit: first post on the last page is seems.

Can we just talk about how AMAZING all the character designs seem to be.

Dripping with personality and I can't WAIT to run into them.

The redesigned Zoras and Gorons in particular look SO DAMN cool. The Gerudo girl, the fairy queen spotted many Koroks in the trailer too (they appear to be surrounding the master sword in the past).

I'd love to be able to walk around a hyrule which is completely at peace sometime in this game with all races living in peace.

TLoZ series always had a lot of potential for it's lore, characters and stories to be further developed. This looks like the game to finally do it. CAN'T WAIT.

I like how the Fairy Queen looks like a drag queen a little bit haha. I'm a huge fan of the new Zora design.

But it does. There are Xbox one games with better framerate than ps4 games

And on the ps4 pro as you increase resolution you decrease framerate.

Since the dock has no real technology in it, the cost of the increased resolution is the framerate.

But the theory is that the GPU is down clocked in portable mode. So it should be able to have better IQ in docked mode without a loss in frame rate. You would think that is why docked mode is only 900p instead of 1080p. It is pretty disappointing to hear it having worse frame rate stability issues while in docked mode.

I wonder if this is being rushed a bit. There were rumors that it would be launching in summer. Perhaps they need more time to fix the frame rate issues but an executive decision was made that it needed to come out on launch.

Is there anything known yet about whether this game will feature some sort of time travel mechanic like OoT? Or perhaps a alternative dimension mechanic like in ALttP and TP? Are theories or speculations about this. Is it likely?

Oh and what is a recommended online retailer to order the Japanese version of BotW besides PlayAsia - or is that the best place to do so?

My theory: that's a scene from the past where Link and Zelda are trying to escape from Calamity Ganon and his guardians as they invade the castle and town. It connects with the scene with Zelda crying since they're wearing the same outfit. Only here, Link is much more injured. I'm guessing this will be the part where Link tries to fight back and "dies" and has to be put in the resurrection place.

If you slow down the part where Zelda has the glowing bracelet/hand and yells "No!" you can see the injured Link with the rusty master sword in the foreground as the camera spins around Zelda with guardians surrounding them.

I'm guessing zelda in the blue outfit is present Zelda.

I wonder, are all the characters wearing that particular blue cloth like heroes chosen to represent each race or something? Heroes to support or train Link? No way its coincidence that they're all wearing something similar.

Has anyone pointed out the details on the back of the physical map? It has Calamity Ganon, a hero in blue, and a white dressed princess in the center, surrounded by tons of Guardians. Along the top you can see the castle. However, also in each of the four corners, you see giant beasts and their riders. The four are a bird, a gecko or lizard of some sort, an elephant or mammoth, and a Camel. This matches up with the giants we saw in the trailer and the airship.

To me, I believe this confirms the 4 dungeons rumor, as likely each of the 4 will have something to do with those giants. The riders might be the characters promeniently featured in the trailer, and they might be key to defeating Calamity Ganon.

EDIT: On second look, the riders might be Sheikah type warriors, as they all have similar, armor like designs. There's also Sheikah text along the edge of the map, so it would be interesting for somwone to translate that.

You can see the details at about 4:45 of this video. https://youtu.be/YmoHaOYB9jE

I'm a pretty big Zelda fan, but for me it's always been about the dungeons. I've never cared about the story, and the overworld has largely felt like somewhat boring downtime between the fun parts (the dungeons). I'm concerned that this Zelda is emphasizing the parts of Zelda I'm not that into while scaling back what I love about Zelda. Hopefully this is not the case.

Yeah, it was being discussed a couple of pages back.

So are the giant "colossi" (the flying bird ship, the crawler on death mountain, the desert camel) meant to be bosses... or like, do you actually go inside them, and they ARE the dungeons.

Apologies if already discussed but those Collossi are gonna be beasts that each of the 4 races in Hyrule control right? You can see someone standing on each of their heads, I bet the Gorons, the Zora, the bird people and the Gerudo all have these creature/machines whatever that they were using to try and stop Calamity Ganon before it all went to hell.

Maybe a reimagining of the 4 giants from majoras Mask.

Might be the best trailer I've ever seen for a video game.

I know im basically just another voice in the choir, but I was front and center second floor Nintendo NY, that giant marvelous screen encompassing my entire vision with the surround sound blasting me just right and by the end of that trailer I honestly had tears rolling down my face and goosebumps and joy permeating through me intensely. Almost embarrassing to admit but not.

It's a moment in time that Nintendo has given me that I wont really ever forget.

The music and sound design in this game is on some other ridiculous level, coming from someone who loves music more than games by far and plays multiple instruments and studied theory blah blah

there's too much to even say so I wont continue, but we have this game in less than two months. my anticipation level makes me nervous and scares me. media blackout from here out

oh also the art on the reverse side of the map, apart from making my mind run wild with fantasy speculation, seems to also point to a finite number of guardians in the game and maybe a certain consequence for destroying/decommissioning them all

So from what I'm getting from the trailer looks like:

- Ganon revives and with the guardians/titan robot things invades the castle town.
- Zelda (white) is purifying herself to fight against Ganon
- Something goes wrong, probably get attacked.
- Zelda and Link need to run away, Zelda falls behind giving way to two scenes we saw in the trailer of the hands separating, and Link looking back. Then Zelda cries saying everything she's done has been for nothing.
- They are further attacked and Link is prepared to give his life to protect Zelda.
- When Link is beyond fucked up (very final scene of him stumbling back has Zelda behind him holding him), the enemies are about to give the final blow. Master Sword is extremely damaged too.
- White dress Zelda protects Link from the attack. He's like on his knees if not on his last breaths.

It's at this point I assume somebody takes him to the revival chamber where he rests for 100 years. Then he comes back and both the Deku Tree and another old man seem to recognize him.

Now my only question is if the blue dressed Zelda is the same Zelda as the one from the past, or a reincarnation? Because if she's the same one, she must have gone to a time stopping chamber as well. And the King of Hyrule/Old man from previous gameplay videos is the father who seems to have aged.

They were already shipping them fairly hard in SS, maybe they ship them hard in here too.

pretty good breakdown. it looks like this connects to the wind waker pretty hard. maybe this is not the hero of time, but some other dude who tried his best and couldn't cut it.

That angle of the shot, Link, and the sword looks like he's using it as a prop to pick himself up. This is supported by the previous couple seconds where he's lifting himself up off the ground. It looks like Link already has the sword and got his ass beat down by something. Zelda is moving to help him get on his feet I think.

I don't think there will be a finite number of guardians in the game as they drop collectible items presumably for use with crafting or something. It would be neat though if there were, and I think I'd even prefer it.

Someone will probably find out pretty quickly if the guardians respawn a while after being destroyed.

see my post above I got the same conclusion.

From the scenes throughout the trailer, Link gets his ass beat and is on his knees leaning against the sword when Zelda comes and protects him from the finishing blow of the attackers.

I just noticed this, but they seem to have polished up the fire effects even more, now they seem to have a distortion when you look just past the fire.

I just caught up on the Treehouse Live video of Breath of the Wild... the fact that there are horse stats and all of the animals actually interact with you in a believable way is blowing my mind.

Also it was great seeing the start of a side quest. This game is not going to be lacking at all in the content department.

I agree with you mostly but the sword when Link is pulling himself to his feet is already rusted and chipped. I think this particular scene takes place in the present day of the game. That doesn't mean your ideas are wrong in anyway, but that particular scene is present day in-game I think.

Why do you think so?

White dress Zelda seems to be in the scenes of the past with Link and her running, then present day Zelda has the blue outfit. The master sword being damaged/rusted could come from the attackers not being inherently evil but machines, or just the ass whooping he got being so bad it took a lot of damage.

Well Far Cry had it's own Animal System which the player could interact quite a lot with like Driving an elephant into an enemy camp, BoTW seems to pare it back a bit and focus on two main companions that player can have which are a Dog and a Horse and the bond system allows gameplay progression with both. It's not a new System but it is building on prestablished gameplay systems and combining them in novel ways that haven't been done yet. Far Cry 3 and 4 never did replicate the nuanced Fire Propagation system of Far Cry 2.

The Side Quest Assuaged me of my biggest fear for the game and that was that like modern open world ever they were going to put a marker on my map and I'd go there with no need for exploration.

After that Sidequest, I'm genuinely confident in thinking this is probably going to be the height of action-adventure after 30 years of progress in the medium.

I posted this a couple of pages ago, but I think the colossi depicted on that stylized map and shown in the trailer are a callback to the structure of the original NES dungeons, some of which are shaped like animals:
Another reference to the first game is with Gleeok Bridge, one of the early locations in the game. Gleeok is a boss from the first Zelda:

It's the rusted and chipped part. It looks like that damage came from the passing of time and that's typically how rust works. The chips look like damage that started cracks and spread through sword causing it to fall apart over time. Nintendo is deliberately interspersing scenes from the past and present to muddy the waters.

Nothing is stopping Zelda from wearing the white outfit in the past and present for instance. The problem is that we have seen what the Master Sword looks like in present day and it's state is identical to what Link is using in that scene where he's lifting himself up. That lends itself to being present day I think.

Hmmm, you've got me wondering entirely on the rust/damage now. Have we seen a shot of the master sword in a perfect state yet? Maybe the sword is rusted and damaged from the beginning due to the timeline or overwhelming evil or some other shit haha.

Yeah, I don't think we have seen it in perfect state yet. It's possible that it was damaged from the beginning of the timeline. We just don't have enough information yet on how all the pieces fit together. That being said I think your ideas about the events in the past are good and seem pretty likely. It does seem very much like this Link failed or had to retreat.

The best part of the game is that the bosses, other than the tallus who just seems to be an overworld encounter, look incredible.

The one that was partially on fire seems to be the thing that was crawling up death mountain and looks stunning.

Is there a link I can see the treehouse Zelda stuff? and a timestamp?

Also I'm a bit concerned about the rumored 4 dungeons thing. I hope it's not true because dungeons are my favorite parts of Zelda games usually and 4 seems SO low. (I know there are 100 shrines, but eh)

Are there any direct feed non-Youtube videos of the game out yet? I want to see how it really looks on the Switch but Youtube compression is making even the best videos look like crap.

Isn't the current theory that that is one of the dungeons though. Maybe we fight the giant salamander/lizard but I'm kind of under the impression its a dungeon with one of Ganon's minions as the boss. Wouldn't complain if was a boss though.

I think the Kojima trailers trump this one, but otherwise, goddamn yes, what a great trailer. Wasn't expecting something so good, it really made the open world seem like something more action packed and dramatic. Also Zelda crying and then the music amping up was done so well.

Speculation: There are 4 pillars around Hyrule Castle, 4 colossi according to the back of the map, and an old rumor about 4 main dungeons. That seems to all fit together pretty well.

I could see both being true to an extent. If they are the dungeons, you'll probably need to disable them first to enter which will probably involve a fight

A lot of bosses look like Overworld encounters like the Steppe Talus (which seems to be a recurring enemy and not just a one off which I don't mind) like the one where you skate around on your Shield while the boss surfs under the sand like Shadow of the Colossus and the huge moblin boss while the main bosses are basically Colossi. So he question is, how amazing is the Final boss going to be?
