Nioh has gone Gold

That certainly puts my mind at ease, because for some odd reason NA PSN still has the placeholder date of Dec, 31 2017.

Ha, that's weird. Hope they don't forget to update the store with the real date before the actual release, or at least that this won't impact pre-loads and downloads.

Ni-Oh or For Honor, which one to get first...the problem is that I am making OTs for both but I don't think I will be able to afford both.

I would try to get both if I can but consider this- Buying Nioh would show support for a developer who listens and respects the feedback of the fans and have made the appropriate compromises to the game while still maintaining their vision.

For Honor's developers are awesome and passionate guys as well! They listen to feedback and sticks to their vision. It's just a goddamn shame that they're stuck with Ubisoft as a publisher who was doing fine until they made the game Online only, including the campaign.

I think I will be able to get both in the end. It just depends on my December bonus at this point.

Have you decided on a title yet?

We already came up with one in the alpha thread Ni-Oh |OT| Ni-OhGAF Praises the Rising Sun

Looks really interesting. Didn't get a chance to play much of the recent demo past the dojo tutorial.

How does this feel compared to a Soulsborne game?

Here's one Irish samurai that's sure to be sitting on a pot o' gold.

Seriously; does the guy talk with an Irish accent? I wasn't sure if it was just me from the couple of trailers I've seen (been trying to stay on a media blackout more or less, as I think seeing a lot of the enemies ruins a lot of the appeal).

very similar but different enough not to feel like a clone. Coming from Souls games you will have an advantage at the beginning but not much. Long time Souls veterans had trouble with the game, myself included, since it is not easy at all and the mechanics are different, especially ki bursts which are absolutely essential for high level play.

I could not do the ki bursting properly. Glub!

Just a reminder for everyone- This Friday on the 20th Jan 22:00 JST is the final live stream for Nioh. The previous two live streams have dropped big bombs like transmog for weapons and playable character skins, so it's very likely it would be worth your while to stay to the end.

I like the alpha demo but it's too hard for me, how's the beta demo? did they adjust the difficulty?
They removed some annoyances some people didn't like, like Durability, difficulty is still challenging but bit more fair to be blunt, so if you found Alpha too hard Beta is definitely improved for you

Stamina management is a much bigger deal. It feels harder to run past enemies.

In the demo i played (the 1st beta or alpha) the enemies dont even stop chasing you, so running past enemies was not an option like it is in the souls/borne series.

Its diferent, feels harder at 1st, but once u get good gear it feel fair.

Really enjoyed my time with the demo. (that took me longer to complete than some full priced games)

Not picking this up as the demo was way too hard for me, but I smell a sleeper hit here.

It's a sleeper alright. Don't see any western media hype about Nioh, except EZA.

I hope they show the side characters this time ie notMomiji this time :)

Just looking through some videos and seeing bosses have so much health. Whats up with that? Its more Dragons Dogma than Dark Souls. I prefer the faster, high risk/high reward of the later.

All these decade-long development games coming out now.

Yeah, I brought that up on another board as many people were very surprised that Nioh was originally announced over a decade ago, even those eagerly anticipating it. Nioh, Doom, The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy XV all coming out within a year of each other. Two have delivered for me, one I have but haven't played yet (don't want to start FFXV with Gravity Rush 2 so close to release), and one that remains to be seen.

Quite similar in controls and structure but with your character you have more tricks and techniques that make it feel more like an acton game.

For Honor since it is multiplayer focused. Being Nioh will be single player the experience will more or less be the same no matter when you play it but it's good to get into a multiplayer game early and be there as the meta is established and learn.

Buy the one you want copied more.

I sucked at this game in the first available demo. Just kept dying to the first guy I came across. Good to see another title going gold though, congrats Team Ninja & Nioh.

Buy the one you want copied more.

That's still a tough choice because both have great designs that I want to see copied more.

I want western developers to move away from Arkham style combat, and I want Japanese developers to bridge the gap between Souls and Character Action.

But he'd miss the launch day hype and adventure to look for new things nobody has found yet.
For Honor will be available after he's done with Nioh.

Nioh of course, it needs every sale it can get. For Honor is just one more franchise for Ubisoft and to be honest at least I couldn't care less for that game.

I've beat every Dark Souls game but I'm kind of worried about my chances of beating this. We shall see, I suppose... I'm buying it either way, but it was pretty damn hard. On the first demo, I beat the first boss but it took me a couple days to finally do it.

I am in exactly the same boat as you. Was so hyped for this game. The first demo was cool. In the second demo i hardly got to the third room. Maybe it was not a good time to play, because I had almost no patience. Still, I'm really worried that I wont even get that far and just leave it be.

People dont know how to play yet. Attacking in this game is more than simply "hit them till they die", its about breaking their parts, stunning them, breaking their ki, using combos, special moves.
