It could still be OoT Link. We never would've seen the Sheikah deploying the four divine beasts and the mechanical army since when we played OoT we succeeded in defeating Ganon. But if this is set in the third timeline where he fails, then all of that would follow from him failing.
The wording
"The hero and princess attempted in vain to seal the terror which became known as the Calamity Ganon"
could be the description of them failing to defeat Ganon but the specific mentioning of the word
prosperity
as well describing how well everyone got along makes me think it could take place
in the "Era of Prosperity" which is between Skyward Sword and Minish Cap
.

This confirms animal companions beside the Horse:)
OMG this game.

Possibly more than just other animals too though.

There is also the Golden Era after ALttP and before the original LoZ. When the rulers of Hyrule used the power of the Triforce for the prosperity of their kingdom and people.

If it was between SS and OoT, it'd be interesting to see how Calamity Ganon would become a precursor to Ganondorf. Basically it would likely be Demise's curse, manifested as pure evil by the name Ganon. If that was the case, then maybe you could expect to see how that evil becomes linked into the Gerudos.

Honestly, I think the 100 shrine thing is overkill. Sure, it sounds cool to have that many, but I think everyone's gonna get bored of them pretty quickly. I think most people would prefer to have around 10 meaty full dungeons instead.

No I want 100 shrines and 10 dungeons. Either way 100 and 4 is a compromised, I would take less shrines for more dungeons for sure.

The dungeons and the way items and progression is handled is really the only thing that can hold this back from being the best game of all time. If the dungeons are not as well done, don't have a unique item, bosses are repetitive then it will disappoint. But if the dungeons are as good as the stuff in TP in addition to all the amazing open world stuff then it will be the GOAT.

Doesn't make sense. Why have a clearly decayed and destroyed OoT Hyrule Castle, Castle Town and Temple of Time before the events of that game. As well as a more recently destroyed TP Castle Town and Hyrule Castle acting as the cage for Calamity Ganon even further before the events of that game and the existence of that character. Or the Great Deku tree and talk of remembering us when this would be technically the first time in the series we'd meet him. Game makes no sense as a prequel to OoT.

What do they look like again?

We see them in the trailer large mechanical looking creatures, a salamander which seems to be around Death Mountain. A bird which seems to fly around the north west part of the map. A camel which is in Gerudo Valley. And an elephant that we haven't seen yet which is most likely somewhere in the south east part of the map, maybe in the jungle or it wanders the sea??

Well for one, I think its in the Fallen Hero timeline directly after OoT, I was just elaborating on the idea. Second, it seems to be jumping to conclusions to assume with certainty those are the same Castle Towns, and an even bigger jump to think they would show two different old Castle Towns in the same game. (I would imagine a OoT Castle Town would only be hinted at to show the transition to the newer, central one, rather than have OoT ruins there for no reason when there was no significant events between it and TP.) Third, I'm sure the Deku Tree could've met a different hero before the Hero of Time, and the events that take place in this backstory might be completely unrelated to any previous Zelda game, as has happened before if I remember correctly.

Still, I don't exactly think between SS and OoT is the correct interpretation, but it can work I think and is interesting nonetheless.

EDIT: If we look at the ruins in the plateau from the perspective of the Fallen Hero timeline directly after OoT, then it makes sense that that is the old Castle Town, as it would have plot significance and show part of the reason as to why things changed.

people not warning about spoilers and not spoilertagging stuff in these threads are being huge ASSHOLES

there's nowhere in the topic title where it says unmarked spoilers are ok here.

Yeah, I think you're letting hype get ahead of you. BoTW is probably going to be the biggest refinement of 30 years of the action adventure Genre, but Nintendo is still comprised of Humans, there's only so much content humans can make before they have to stop.

Link also seems to have the majority of his moveset at the beginning of the game, so while key items in addition to the Sheikah Slate could be possible (perhaps a grappling hook, as the recent trailer showed Link being towed by another beast while fighting a huge boss in the desert), I don't think it's going to happen.

Can we get a separate thread for spoiler discussion maybe? I feel it's warranted as it's theory talk whilst this thread is based on the launch trailer.

I'd love this. Constant internet theorizing often ruins things for me. Don't want the same thing to happen here. I guess I can just avoid the discussion, but I am hyped for this game more than I have been for any game since possibly Metroid Prime back in 2002.

Well that could be a negative to some. I was not a big fan of buying items in any order in ALBW. I think this will be a masterpiece but I need to find some potential negatives before I let my hype go crazy.

Will Link get his green tunic?

Aonuma on what happened to Link’s green tunic;

“I don’t know… I wonder.”

Miyamoto on what happened to Link’s green tunic;

“I don’t know, but there are just a lot of clothes in this game. So maybe if we had green clothes people would want to wear it all the time. And yeah, with the variety of clothes you get, that this game offers, you can really customize your character. And I can’t really divulge too much more than this.”

That's precisely what I think BoTW fixed with ALBW, because Link's Moveset is more substantial than any previous game, the dungeon complexity can be significantly higher from the get go. Thus, rather than ALBW's issue of having the items be effectively keys, they can test the player's understanding of the unique item as through how it interacts with Link's more complex Moveset.

I would personally like a Crane companion. Thank you.

This is actually interesting. I wonder if you could domesticate all the animals in the game? That'd be interesting. I don't want to get my hopes up, but itd be cool if you can recruiter birds, dogs, horses, etc. And have yourself an animal army

Oh interesting.

I mean, you're the one that began with saying that Zelda was more popular than Mario though.

Based on fan reactions and hype, it is. I like Mario games - I love Zelda games.

Fans are loud and excitable, but they're a minority in the grand scheme of things

True.

I mean....look, has any single Zelda release ever sold even 10 million copies? No.

We have Mario games selling 25m and up fairly recently.

Mario games have more global sales, but Zelda games garner more hype and are more eagerly anticipated - which is a strange paradox indeed.

I really, really hope there's a shit ton of content we haven't seen yet.

Areas - dungeons - "wow" moments - tools/items - characters - story beats. The works.

Hoping that we've only seen the VERY tip of the iceberg.

If you look at the back of the box, there are 4 pictures of him in his classic green tunic - but no classic green hat.

Come on Nintendo, you've got to include the classic Link hat!

Really starting to believe this may in the Fallen Hero timeline, in the many centuries between OoT and ALttP, and will finally show us the epic story of the Imprisioning War.

It's sort of like the Clone Wars. It's something we've known about for 20 years, but it's never been explored in any medium.
please don't be as bad as the prequels
