I'm on the side of the tunic being the gift for completing all shrines. I imagine the Hylian Shield will have a similar challenge too. Maybe 50 shrines is shield and 100 is tuinc,

Hmm maybe. I speculated earlier that finding the Koroks to help lead you through the Lost Woods might be contingent on acquiring the Master Sword, would be a bit much if they also locked behind world sized collectethons the green tunic and shield. But who knows.

Holy shit Zeltik and his Discord have done it. They translated the text on the map with the four animals.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-GjWof7Kx4
It's a doozie.

For people worrying about new info, there's nothing new to Zeltik's translation than the one I made and posted 2 days ago that's important.

Zeltik took some liberties.

The vertical text on the left side says YUUSYA TO SEINARU HIME GA KORE WO HUUINSU, which translates to "The Hero and the Holy Princess sealed it". Dunno where the "tried in vain" part is coming from.

The vertical text on the right side says HYRULE NI TUTAWARU YAKUSAI NO NA HA GANON "The name of the calamity told of in Hyrule is Ganon" but the video says "which became known as the Calamity Ganon", makes it a continuation of the left side sentence, and omits the mention of Hyrule.

The last part says KORERA NO CHIAKRA WO ETE GANON WO HUUZURU NI ITARU which translates to "These powers led to the sealing of Ganon."
SONO SUE NITE SHEIKAH CHIRU which translates to "In the end the Sheikah disappeared." The word used to describe what happened to the Sheikah is "chiru" which means:
【 散る 】

散 Kanji Details

(v5r, vi) to fall (e.g. blossoms, leaves)

あなたが帰国なさる頃には、桜はみんな散ってしまっていることでしょう。
By the time you get home, all the cherry blossoms will have fallen.
to scatter; to be dispersed
to disappear; to dissolve; to break up
to spread; to run; to blur
to die a noble death

"Banished" is clearly not correct. The Sheikah scattered like leaves.

This story is MOST LIKELY told in the opening of the game. It's the same kind of story that's opened Wind Waker and Skyward Sword. A very vague telling of a legend that will be expanded on later in the game

Appreciate the efforts, RagnarokX.

I'm assuming lots of details get mixed up in the retelling of these legends, but I wonder: If this is post-OoT, where were the Sheikah during OoT?

Really starting to believe this may in the Fallen Hero timeline, in the many centuries between OoT and ALttP, and will finally show us the epic story of the Imprisioning War.

It's sort of like the Clone Wars. It's something we've known about for 20 years, but it's never been explored in any medium.
please don't be as bad as the prequels

Everyone thinks every Zelda game will finally cover one of the wars/backstories to another Zelda. TP was suppose to be TWW's Great Flood Story and SS was going to be OoT's Civil War/Unification War or TP's Interloper War. Ocarina of Time was suppose to be ALttP's Imprisoning War and okay, it sort of is, but barely...(Nintendo had to write a book for fans in order for it to make sense)

I wouldn't be so sure about Nintendo actually filling in the blanks. If this REALLY is the Imprisoning War then that would mean actual people would be tempted by greed for the Triforce and end up joining Ganon's army. I suppose you see people in The Wind Waker looking for the "Triumph Forks" but that was all in good fun. This would be like...people killing each other over the chance to get their wish granted.

That's dark. The monsters in this game don't look like they're made from transformed greedy people. It just looks like a generic bokoblin army spawned by Ganny's spitwads. @___@

I'd love to see Lynels and Darknuts walking around the overworld. That would be insane.

Appreciate the efforts, RagnarokX.

They're Hyrule's Ninjas. I guess they probably know how to disappear and stay hidden for a very long time.

Maybe it's because they were just off in the rest of the world that we see in BoTW doing their own thing. Impa was one of them but they seem like a fairly illusive people. I believe she took Zelda to a group of Sheikah she knew in the greater world and they trained her in some crazy stuff before she returned as Sheik... spoilers Zelda is Shiek.

There were wild foxes in the horse demo. Hoping we can make them an ally. Foxes, horses and dogs in the fight against ganon.

That would be awesome i really want to recruit that snow fox from the trailer.

What if you could also store other animals at those horse stables? That would be cool.

It's gotta be in the game - just look at Miyamoto and Aonuma's responses on the matter - they're clearly being extremely divisive, probably also winking and smirking while they answered that question lol

All I know is that the next Smash better update Zelda and Link's designs rather than clinging to the old Twilight Princess look.

I agree, I'm surprised they've down played it so much. This is the first mainline Zelda game where Link isn't clad in green (that I can think of) but I think it will be, i just don't see it coming as a story point, I think the way they let you wear what you want, when you want, shows that they're not forcing different outfits onto you. So when you get the tunic it'l be an optional moment similar to the Hylian Shield in Skyward Sword.

Yeah, I hope so too. There's a lot of potential there. Also the fact that the animals can die also brings about some emergent story with your companions. I really hope they take that idea all the way

I'm trying to not take the out of context crying scenes to heart. Even the strongest people break down, when pushed to the brink.

I do feel like, if that isn't the true character she displays throughout the game, Nintendo did Zelda a disservice by making that all we see of her in the trailer.

Basically, the trailer is heavily laden with 'weak willed damsel in distress tropes', but that doesn't mean the game will be.

When you begin Twilight Princess, Link starts off the game in a town-folksy outfit. He gets the green tunic later on.

There's a good chance that
Link dies
around the same time as those scenes. I think both Link and Zelda will be a bit more on the weeny/loser side of the spectrum this time...

Which is fine. It makes the final showdown that much better and way more intense. Assuming Zelda/Zelda's equivalent gets a hold of herself by the ending of the game. After Skyward Sword though...uh, I'm not so sure.

That's dark.

That is dark, but is not something that hasnt been done before in a nintendo game. In KI:Uprising you have armies killing each other over a wish granting seed. It would be interesting if zelda also explores this in the future.

That's true.

In that case...I'm extremely excited for that to potentially happen. Seeing all the travelers walking in and out of the horse stable is awesome. Seeing them with fighting AI out on the field is great. Seeing an occasional traveler with shitty intentions...wow, that'd be crazy. I hope that's part of the plot somewhere. I don't want to kill people though...

"Its power is too great to leave in the
grasp of man. Dependence on its might
is an invitation to disaster.

When it has served its purpose, it must
be secreted away to lie dormant once
again...the knowledge of its existence
hidden from mortal history.
These are the words the goddess spoke
to me long ago. I remember them well.
As do you, I'm sure." - Impa

I will say though...The Triforce has yet to be mentioned. I suppose we'll just have to see.

I think you are reading into the crying too much and ignoring the other scenes of her, though they are much briefer. Yeah she's shown as emotional and vulnerable, but she also shown using her power to stop a Guardian at one point too.

Zelda is likely going to be the emotional core of this game. In SS she played much the same role at times, same for WW and ST. Just like Midna was the emotional core of TP. Especially now with voice acting being introduced. I have a feeling we are going to see a much more fleshed out character than we have in the past. Both in flashbacks and present time story events.

I very much want a strong and well developed Zelda, so I'll be there first thing to let Nintendo know I'm upset if they screw things up like have her get kidnapped again. But I think it's very premature to try and infer anything here based on this trailer alone. The prior trailer which hinted at her character used two scenes that evoked strength and dominance.

And in Wind Waker Link starts out in his blue and white pajamas.

You can actually play the whole game that way.

Only on the second question/new game +. At least in the original GC release. Not sure if they let you opt out in the Wii U remake.

Only if its the Hyrule Warriors versions.

SS and BoTW Link/Zelda look awful (assuming the girl in the trailer IS Zelda)

BotW Link is the best 3D Link model they've ever made. Perfectly blends relatively naturalistic 80s style anime with the Saturday morning cartoon feel of the ALttP and LA art and he finally has the long sideburns.

Keep that garbage Hyrule Warriors design away from Smash Bros.

Is she though? We clearly see her protecting (or at least attempting to) Link.

That area looks vaguely similar to where Link is fighting Ganon at the end of OoT. Link and Zelda's clothing throw it completely out of context though.

Does it though?

Legend-of-Zelda-The-Ocarina-of-Time_May27-0_25_01.jpg

The trailer features other scenes from what appear to be the same general event as this and they look to be running through woods away from Guardians, possibly the Lost Woods, possibly towards the Great Deku Tree. Which is evidenced by the back of the game box which shows Zelda in the same dirty clothes presumably placing the Master Sword in the pedestal before the Great Deku Tree.

There's a tree in the background...

As awesome as a direct continuation to OoT on the defeated timeline would be...there are far too many discrepancies for that to be the case. Although I suppose OoT heavily messed up and retconned ALttP's backstory so...maaaybe this game can butcher OoT. I would be very sad if that was the case though.

The new Hyrule Historia is coming out, do we know if it will cover the Timeline some more?

Here's how Hyrule Historia covers the DT.

- In Ocarina of Time, Link is defeated by Ganondorf. Whether Link dies from "defeat" is anyone's guess. Ganondorf obtains the Triforce from Link and Zelda. Ganondorf turns into Ganon and becomes all-powerful. Zelda hastily summons the 6 sages to seal Ganon. The seal is a botched one and barely does it's job. But either way the day is saved without Link.

- Many years pass and Hyrule is at peace. Unfortunately a lot of people learned about the Triforce and the Sacred Realm after Ganon was sealed away. Their "lust was aroused" (Really Hyrule Historia?) And a crap ton of people rushed in to claim the Power of the Gods. These people didn't realize Ganon had corrupted the Sacred Realm and so everyone who sought out the Triforce became on of Ganon's monsters...

- Everyone who disappeared never came back but instead the "power of darkness" started to flow out of Hyrule. This is what caused the Imprisoning War. The King of Hyrule ordered sages (Not the same sages from OoT) to seal the Sacred Realm as hordes of demons attacked Hyrule. - The Knights of Hyrule protected the sages as this was happening, and almost all of the knights perished. In the end, the sages were successful.

The end.

How the heck does BoTW fit into that...? They'd have to retcon a bunch of hacked godlike robot guardians into it. I just dunno.

I'm super curious what's going on with that Sheikah ninja Link is fighting. I hope its a real Sheikah and not some ghost. I want to see more of this mysterious tribe beyond Impa.

Does anyone have links for the official art renders that came out? The ones with the dark brush strokes behind them? They're shockingly difficult to find through basic Google.

Well the Shiekah symbol is upside down on its mask, plus you can see tusks coming out of its face. So I'm guessing it might be one of Ganon's minions. Though the Shiekah seem to have a big role in the game so I'm sure we will learn a lot about them throughout the story.

The Sheikah mask he's wearing is the same as the ones the monks have been seen wearing, but it's turned upside down. Reminds me of the upside down Triforce/Triforce-licking carvings in Majora's Mask.

Perhaps he's some sort of defector.

Everything looks nice but I am still worried they will trend too far from the Zelda formula and instead of having many big dungeons, item upgrades, side quests, interesting npcs, secrets, secret items and will instead just focus on the outside open world since it is the first time Nintendo attempts something like that. Please don't forget what makes the Zelda series great. Do we have any confirmation that these stuff will be in? Because I haven't followed the game that much.

Yeah that would be cool. He's also super tall compared to Link which fits with how tall Impa was in SS.

Oh man the 4 dungeons rumors is getting too real for me... I really hope there's more than 4 main dungeons in that huge map.

Aren't the Divine Beasts a little small to be full scale dungeons? I mean there could be a shrine style dungeon in each, but the creative restrictions you put on yourself to make a dungeon that fits inside one of those things... just doesn't make sense.

I think every major region will have a tradional dungeon, at least.

o___o where is this from?

The video you tried to avoid. I think it's time for a spoiler thread.

Well, it seems that stuff hasn't changed really, it's just that the world is much wider and more interactive than ever before. The NPCs have their own schedules like Majora's Mask. There are secrets pretty much everywhere and exploration is rewarded pretty consistently. They showed off a sidequest that didn't put a marker on your map for once in a modern open world game (they instead tell you to go to a place so you actually have to explore), item upgrades are confirmed, lots of what could be called "generic" items have some interesting properties that have gameplay relevance at some points. Puzzle solving is still in abundance. Enemies deal way more damage than pretty much every other game in the series.

i'm not sure what you mean by small, I haven't really digged up what they actually are. How I interpreted the divine beasts thing is something like Twilight Princess, where you go in dungeons to save the Beasts Spirits. Not only is it a recurring theme with TP but it lines up with the 4 dungeons old rumor / leak and the 4 big pillars around the castle.

I wonder if the master sword will be invulnerable in that it never breaks or wears out, or if it will have high stamina before becoming damaged and needing to stop being used for a while - proceeding to heal itself and be ready for use again.

I can't imagine it being able to break, or needing you to constantly go get it repaired or something.

The Hylian shield is probably invulnerable, but weak to electricity or something.

I think it is pretty safe to assume that since the game's focus has been so much on the huge explorable world and that the game contains 100 shrines which are essentially mini dungeons that 4 dungeons seem like a pretty safe bet. All the resources to build that world don't come out of nowhere and we can assume that it was cut from some other part of the game, so my suggestion is start believing that the game has 4 dungeons from now so you don't get disappointed later on.

Ah, I see. Well the Divine beasts are the 4 Giant Guardian creatures we've seen in several pieces of footage (The spider on Death Mountain, the Bird etc) . They're also represented on the back of the paper map that Reggie showed during the Treehouse event. If you watch the footage... I mean to me they look too small to be fullscale dungeons, but I can't really get a good idea of how big they actually are.

They very well could be.
