I think it is pretty safe to assume that since the game's focus has been so much on the huge explorable world and that the game contains 100 shrines which are essentially mini dungeons that 4 dungeons seem like a pretty safe bet. All the resources to build that world don't come out of nowhere and we can assume that it was cut from some other part of the game, so my suggestion is start believing that the game has 4 dungeons from now so you don't get disappointed later on.

Why do people even care if we only have 4 dungeons?
  • From E3 we see that shrines can get fairly huge, so dungeons must be massive.
  • From the trailer and gameplay we see that exploring the overworld can have puzzle-like elements as well
  • And we know that there are a number of overworld bosses/guardians to make up for only 4 dungeon bosses

We're clearly getting way more puzzle solving in this game than any single one of the previous games, and probably more than a number of them put together

I don't mind, Majora's Mask has only 4 dungeons and I think we can all agree it is a great game, all I am saying is that people shouldn't get their hopes up. The overworld is at the center whenever the game is shown, we can assume Nintendo put their focus on it rather than the dungeons.

There is also the Golden Era after ALttP and before the original LoZ. When the rulers of Hyrule used the power of the Triforce for the prosperity of their kingdom and people.
That's possible as well but the Triforce probably would have been mentioned for bringing prosperity if that were the case.
For people worrying about new info, there's nothing new to Zeltik's translation than the one I made and posted 2 days ago that's important.

uIQFt1.png

Zeltik took some liberties.

The vertical text on the left side says YUUSYA TO SEINARU HIME GA KORE WO HUUINSU, which translates to "The Hero and the Holy Princess sealed it". Dunno where the "tried in vain" part is coming from.

The vertical text on the right side says HYRULE NI TUTAWARU YAKUSAI NO NA HA GANON "The name of the calamity told of in Hyrule is Ganon" but the video says "which became known as the Calamity Ganon", makes it a continuation of the left side sentence, and omits the mention of Hyrule.

The last part says KORERA NO CHIAKRA WO ETE GANON WO HUUZURU NI ITARU which translates to "These powers led to the sealing of Ganon."
SONO SUE NITE SHEIKAH CHIRU which translates to "In the end the Sheikah disappeared." The word used to describe what happened to the Sheikah is "chiru" which means:
【 散る 】

散 Kanji Details

(v5r, vi) to fall (e.g. blossoms, leaves)

あなたが帰国なさる頃には、桜はみんな散ってしまっていることでしょう。
By the time you get home, all the cherry blossoms will have fallen.
to scatter; to be dispersed
to disappear; to dissolve; to break up
to spread; to run; to blur
to die a noble death

"Banished" is clearly not correct. The Sheikah scattered like leaves.

This story is MOST LIKELY told in the opening of the game. It's the same kind of story that's opened Wind Waker and Skyward Sword. A very vague telling of a legend that will be expanded on later in the game
Thanks for this. Were you able to figure out the top lines yet?
I'm trying to not take the out of context crying scenes to heart. Even the strongest people break down, when pushed to the brink.

I do feel like, if that isn't the true character she displays throughout the game, Nintendo did Zelda a disservice by making that all we see of her in the trailer.

Basically, the trailer is heavily laden with 'weak willed damsel in distress tropes', but that doesn't mean the game will be.

I felt the same even though there were scenes of her helping Link in the trailer. It is actually a mark against the OoT sequel on the decline side as I cannot imagine the Zelda from that game having any "damsel" tropes.
Oh man the 4 dungeons rumors is getting too real for me... I really hope there's more than 4 main dungeons in that huge map.
1. Why would you openly post a spoiler like this? 2. Why is this such a point of contention for people? They aren't going to build a massive world that only serves to separate dungeons. The story will advance in other ways, there are bosses out in the world, and there are over 100 temples that will more than serve your dungeon crawling fix. Everything is fine but if for some reason it bothers you, it's best to get over it now rather than suffering from failure to will dungeons into existence.

I'm not even remotely worried about how many dungeons are in the game. The structure is inevitably going to be different with the move to an open world design.

i wont be disappointed by 4 dungeons, assuming that they dont share a common design like the shrines. Thats my only fear is that we may get the shrines, and then the dungeons being the 4 beast which may also look the same from an aesthetic stand point.

Why aren't you on RagnarokX's ass too? :p And honestly you seem more worked up about my grievances than I actually am.

You know, the one part of Twilight Princess I really loved was the Arbiter's Grounds dungeon. It is one of the best designed and atmospheric dungeons in any Zelda game ever. I really hope that Breath of the Wild has at least something like that.

I posted this in the Xenoblade 2 thread but it also seems relevant here.

Monolith Soft put up a recruitment website with a heavy focus on Xenoblade 2 and Breath of the Wild: http://www.monolithsoft.co.jp/recruit/special/index.html#entry

They also posted this short message on their homepage linking to the recruitment website: "東京本社、中途採用特設ページを公開しました。プログラマー、CGデザイナー、プランナー等、募集中!"

Does anybody know if the website or the message specifies which studio at Monolith Soft has been assisting on Breath of the Wild? If the recruitment is specifically for the Tokyo studio, it would seem to imply the Tokyo studio has been assisting on Breath of the Wild instead of the Kyoto studio which always focuses on assisting various Nintendo titles. However, the Tokyo studio did assist on Skyward Sword.

EDIT: It seems like the main Tokyo studio is indeed supporting the development of Breath of the Wild rather than only the Kyoto studio. Also this is neat:

Watching this trailer and seeing the translation is causing too much hype. I need this right now. I am literally not playing other games cause I just want to think about this one.

If you want to see another graphics comparison (yes, yes, the Wii U version is old), then here's a comparison of waking the tower:

Wii U E3 2016
Switch January 2017

Other than the obvious draw distance changes, you can see some minor changes to certain elements (the size of the leaf portions of the trees has been slightly shrunk, one area with Bokoblins has slightly less grass but small pebbles in their place), there's different Sheikah text on the HUD and the "dripping" crystal on the tower (heads up RagnarokX), the tower itself is renamed from Resurrection Tower to Great Plateau Tower, and you can see some added details on the map, as well as slightly modified HUD and even changes to the boundaries of the different regions:

Most of the subtitles/dialogue is the same, with different line breaks.

I agree, I'm surprised they've down played it so much. This is the first mainline Zelda game where Link isn't clad in green (that I can think of) but I think it will be, i just don't see it coming as a story point, I think the way they let you wear what you want, when you want, shows that they're not forcing different outfits onto you. So when you get the tunic it'l be an optional moment similar to the Hylian Shield in Skyward Sword.
At E3 Aonuma told IGN that at the start of the game you actually wear different clothes but that they changed it for demo purposes. He said that you get the blue clothes seen in the demo, at a special moment in the game. I presume there is something important about them as you see Zelda wearing it in what some think are flashbacks.

"The clothes he's wearing right now is actually the same clothes that he was wearing in the trailer that we've shown previously. We thought that having him wear this tunic for this demo would make it a little more familiar to people watching the game demo and trailer this time around. Link gets that blue suit at a very important juncture in the storyline, and we also showed suit of armor you can get too. There's also times when Link will venture out into the cold and he'll need to appropriately equip himself, so there's definitely a lot of variation types of clothes he can wear.”

MASTER USING...
AND YOU CAN
HAVE THIS

Maybe you're right, but this is an awful lot of assumptions.

There's also more text on the map screen. I can't tell what that is across the top and bottom, but it seems to say L is "Rune" and R is "Album."

Sweet Jesus...
the new version says something like "Master use this"

Is it Fi as an AI...

Ahh I gotta get outta here

Thank you, Master Link. May we meet again in another life....

TEARS IF SHE APPEARS IN THIS GAME, TEARS

I hate Fi through SS, but her final scene really endeared me towards her.

The top of the tower was fixed to say SHEIKAH TOWER, in the old build it said SHEAK TOWER. SHEIKAH is 2 characters longer, so they had to replace the !'s with the S and R

Sweet Jesus...

It's a Zelda 1 quote.

White Sword: "MASTER USING IT AND YOU CAN HAVE THIS."

Not to single you out (because I've seen similar things mentioned by other people) but I hate this lax definition of the word puzzle that would allow general world traversal to count as a puzzle. I haven't seen anything on the overworld yet that would replace the mindspace a good dungeon puzzle would provide.

There's a tree in the background...

As awesome as a direct continuation to OoT on the defeated timeline would be...there are far too many discrepancies for that to be the case. Although I suppose OoT heavily messed up and retconned ALttP's backstory so...maaaybe this game can butcher OoT. I would be very sad if that was the case though.

The new Hyrule Historia is coming out, do we know if it will cover the Timeline some more?

Here's how Hyrule Historia covers the DT.

- In Ocarina of Time, Link is defeated by Ganondorf. Whether Link dies from "defeat" is anyone's guess. Ganondorf obtains the Triforce from Link and Zelda. Ganondorf turns into Ganon and becomes all-powerful. Zelda hastily summons the 6 sages to seal Ganon. The seal is a botched one and barely does it's job. But either way the day is saved without Link.

- Many years pass and Hyrule is at peace. Unfortunately a lot of people learned about the Triforce and the Sacred Realm after Ganon was sealed away. Their "lust was aroused" (Really Hyrule Historia?) And a crap ton of people rushed in to claim the Power of the Gods. These people didn't realize Ganon had corrupted the Sacred Realm and so everyone who sought out the Triforce became on of Ganon's monsters...

- Everyone who disappeared never came back but instead the "power of darkness" started to flow out of Hyrule. This is what caused the Imprisoning War. The King of Hyrule ordered sages (Not the same sages from OoT) to seal the Sacred Realm as hordes of demons attacked Hyrule. - The Knights of Hyrule protected the sages as this was happening, and almost all of the knights perished. In the end, the sages were successful.

The end.

How the heck does BoTW fit into that...? They'd have to retcon a bunch of hacked godlike robot guardians into it. I just dunno.

Well, they kept OoT -> ALttP pretty much devoid of details, and any details BotW would add would not have to change what we already know about it. All we know is that Ganon defeated Link, got the Triforce, and was sealed by Zelda. We have no idea how those events went down. For all we know it could have involved a robot army. Hyrule Historia doesn't say that it didn't. BotW could be about another Hero between OoT and ALttP. Adding another game between them would be fine as long as the end of BotW still has Ganon sealed with the full triforce.

One idea I came up with is that the Fallen Hero Timeline is the original timeline and after the events of BotW someone travels back in time to shut down the Sheikah technology so that Ganon can't use it to defeat the Hero of Time, which creates the OoT we all know.

That's possible as well but the Triforce probably would have been mentioned for bringing prosperity if that were the case.

Thanks for this. Were you able to figure out the top lines yet?

I tried to get a good reading of the lines I missed but they were so blurry that I gave up. I trust that the translation they got is correct and I'm glad I didn't try harder cuz what it turned out to be wasn't that important.

Why aren't you on RagnarokX's ass too? :p And honestly you seem more worked up about my grievances than I actually am.

To be fair, there's no information on the map that we hadn't figured out from all of the footage we've seen so far, and the legend on the map is likely the first thing you'll see when you turn the game on.

Switch looks like it has better textures than Wii U. So its that plus 900p vs 720p? I'll gladly double dip on this game, but Wii U version first since I own that.

How many outfits are we expecting the game to have?

Are there any outfits with the classic hat? Will the green tunic return or are we breaking a long-standing tradition?

Wich still is insane because the treehouse played like 6+ hours at E3 on the plateau.

That's what I'm saying. This game is going to take a looooong time.

In fact, it's so large, that I almost feel like the team went a bit overboard. Topping this game in terms of scope is going to be a helluva challenge.

There would be riots in the streets if the green tunic wasn't somewhere in this game. Riots. Nerd rage.

Are you telling me the Great Plateau is LESS than 1% of the entire map?
Um they never actually said that was map size. Im pretty sre what they mean is less than 2% of content. As if you were going for 100% and you can only get 2%ish if you finish the plateau

So is anyone else stoked that we're only like a month and a half away from real ass Hyrule exploration? It's like that tease at the end of Wind Waker is finally getting realised.

Someone on another forum mentioned the white flower appearing in the memory section of the menu screen. While a sword is there for the equipment.

The flower probably symbolizes something about Link and Zelda. Or it might be more literal. In Skyward Sword Link had to fill up a white flower that represented his soul in order to make Hylia think he was worthy or somethin'. Maybe the flowers have a similar significance...

Well, they kept OoT -> ALttP pretty much devoid of details, and any details BotW would add would not have to change what we already know about it. That would certainly be something. So you think we'll have time travel? I don't doubt there will be... but going back 100 years in the past would have to be OoT era...and I don't think that's right. I think this game is probably hundreds of years after OoT. Hyrule castle moved to a new region and everything. This is the DT's version of Twilight Princess.
