I really think they might pull another Majora's Mask with the next game. Shake up the story formula. As much as BotW rethinks the conventions of Zelda, the story seems to be more or less the same from the past games.

In the next game, they have the opportunity to truly make an original story once more. What do you guys think?
At E3 Aonuma said numerous times to various people that his team really wants to do a Sheik spin off which could be cool. it'd probably use the botw engine.

Hey guys, I did some wallpapers from the original art used in the boxart. I did some options with some stretching too to fit everything in the image. Didn't know if it should be posted here, but as I can't create threads... Hope some of you find it useful. :)

New desktop wallpaper! Thanks!

Im telling you all, its not the Master Sword, its the Master's Sword.

I'll say it now, them calling it "The MASTER Sword" in Skyward Sword pissed me off to no end. It should've been "The MASTER'S Sword" and the name got mistranslated over time, like all legends/lore/etc.

Anyway, I wish they'd release the Great Plateau demo, but I know they won't.

I don't think there will be time travel as a major gameplay mechanic. I'm pretty certain that all of the scenes we see of Zelda are flashbacks, so we are going to be seeing a lot of cutscenes that take place 100 years ago.

It looks like you collect them in a menu.

It'd be really cool if BotW ended with the beginning of OoT. Person travels back in time, stops Sheikah tech, wars break out because the world is plunged into the dark ages, and a little boy caught in the war in entrusted to the Deku Tree...

Oh wow, I didn't know this...

Cool idea.

Wow I haven't seen this before. Interesting that they're rewatchable as a list of movie scenes. I don't think any Zelda game has ever let you rewatch cutscenes before.

so dungeon speculation and user interface menus are now spoiler territory? i'll be honest, i dont stay up on this thread continously but do post from time to time, and I wouldnt really call those spoilers. It's not like "hey that one girl your trying to help escape in the dark world...she is really the boss of the dungeon" or anything close to that. I didnt know there were lizards in the grass that you cut until I saw somebody post about them, was that a spoiler?

in reference to the before mentioned menu stuff
im hoping this allows us to go back and watch those cutscenes at will and thats why they are there. I dont want link waking up inside a dream within a dream within a dream

Just stopping in to say how badass I think "The Calamity Ganon" sounds. I dunno why - but that just tickles my "cinematic" side.

This isn't a spoiler thread.

Seriously. If people are going to be digging through the trailer or even treehouse footage like this to the point were it might be going beyond speculation to actually figuring things out about the game then they should be spoiler tagging everything or start a new thread.

Yeah it's like, where can Zelda go from here? BotW is the ultimate Zelda game. What comes next?

It's looking so far to me like the ultimate Zelda game - The clincher for me will be how many bosses and dungeons there are [and I'm not counting the shrines]. If there's more than Ocarina of Time - best Zelda game ever.

Also, is there any kind of info dump about everything currently known about the game that I can look at?

It's pretty much a reference to ALttP.

ALttP had The Great Cataclysm (an evil person getting the complete triforce)

The Great Cataclysm in ALttP is 災い (wazawai)
Calamity in BotW is 厄災 (yakusai)

I don't think there's going to be more dungeons than Ocarina, but I'm pretty confident that there will be more bosses of better quality.

Brief thoughts I posted elsewhere on two shots from the trailer.

It's not just a flower, it's two. But only one has bloomed.

This team loves visual metaphor, so I am certain that there is meaning here beyond functional. My presumption at the moment is that one of Wisdom/Courage has (re)awoken, the other is still dormant.

This shot caught my eye immediately on the first live viewing, and I cannot quite place why. But the mise-en-scene is remarkable; the storm, protection under the cover of the tree, the manner in which Link and Zelda are positioned (Link is clearly departing, not arriving, or preparing to do so, sword at the ready, while Zelda stationed by the wall, near the trunk, far less exposed to what is out there).

Is this a parting/farewell? Or a revelation? Or both? Either way, the mood is palpable, it is very obviously somber - but it's also intimate.

It's remarkable how much I feel like I can chew on the imagery they've provided in these last two trailers.

I think it is pretty safe to assume that since the game's focus has been so much on the huge explorable world and that the game contains 100 shrines which are essentially mini dungeons that 4 dungeons seem like a pretty safe bet. All the resources to build that world don't come out of nowhere and we can assume that it was cut from some other part of the game, so my suggestion is start believing that the game has 4 dungeons from now so you don't get disappointed later on.

For some reason, I was reading this post with the GameExplain dudes voice >_<

I've only seen glimpses of the trailer, and, well, what I caught was Zelda crying, Zelda looking troubled, Zelda running like a wuss.

Did they damsel her up in this one? Are the pants a red herring?

Listening to the English VA for the first time. Might be the first and only time I ever say that I really hope there's Japanese voice acting. I'm cool with it for Zelda considering how many times the language is gibberish anyways.

If Zelda is badass in this game they've done a real good job hiding it so far. I hope she's not as pitiful as she is depicted in the latest trailer. She had 1 powerful moment where it looks like she saves Link from a guardian but that's it.

Oh geez...as if I needed anymore Zelda desk toys. x___x

Aonuma said it was important to the story, so I assume they don't want to spoil it.

During the treehouse of 2016 they showed Link using the fancy arrow to kill a guardian. Beyond the Plateau footage.

Oh well. Thanks for the insight.
fwiw, I wasn't aiming for badass, just something in between.

i would prefer if zelda was a badass, but it's okay if she isn't. i think there are going to be other strong female characters, and there have been a variety of zeldas with different kinds of personalities that i don't think it's a major problem if she isn't.

There's a scene where she protects Link by blocking a Guardian laser with her bare hand.

Seems pretty badass to me. And yeah like AniHawk said, she doesn't need to be Wonder Woman anyway.

I wonder if the Guardians are first made / designed to protect the kingdom / land, thus the name 'Guardian'. The Guardians we saw are actually roaming / patrolling around the ruins, which might be settlements from 100 years ago.

Then somehow Ganon infested them and turn them to attack Hylians.

But over 5 years of development time though...

Where they had to construct a complex Physics engine, fire propagation system, more advanced AI systems for enemies than any previous game in the series, animals (particularly horses and dogs who have their own subsystems) as well as NPC schedules, plan out and balance the overworld area design to create varied gameplay and make sure each area and circumstance affected temperature, implement an intricate noise system (which necessitates good sound design for every surface the player and enemy can walk on, what sounds that the equipment they hold makes and so on) for the stealth mechanics, design each shrine, design each sidequest without relying on a quest markers like every other open world game in the industry, design the major dungeons, create the cinematics which so far, seem to have continued the positive trend from Skyward Sword for good scenes. (And take lots of time in general), implement a complex weather system, balance the durability, strength and properties of every weapon and many items in the game as well as implementing proper animations and assets to make all of these things as clear and readable as possible and god knows what else.

These guys had a shit ton of work on their plates in build and weaving all these systems together in a way that feels natural. I'm impressed that they got it done in over 5 years instead of it turning into a nightmare like TLG or Ni-Oh did.

I think it was really intended as a statement by Nintendo that they're still at the top of the industry as a developer and publisher.

You mind expanding on the bold a bit? I haven't watched any of the recent videos, but is this how most sidequests are handled? Because, if so, I couldn't be happier.

Going by the way you just explained it, it's a wonder that they even had the time to add color in the game lol!

Pretty much everything you said was a select few individuals or small groups/teams doing those specific things, while other groups and teams worked on the actual game over the course of it's 5+ years of development.

5+ years is a tremendous amount of time to create a game, so I'm sure that we haven't even seen anything remotely close to what's behind the veil in Breath of the Wild.
