That's beyond fucking stupid. At least it has bluetooth, but still, if that's really the case, that's inexcusable.
but do we know if it supports Bluetooth headsets...I would doubt it

What is "matchmaking" in this case?
It just gets worse and worse doesn't it?
They want you to struggle juggling both in your hands until you inevitably drop your phone, your Switch or both and have to fork out egregious amounts of money in screen replacements.if im on the go how am i gonna hold the switch and my phone at the same time
LOL.It's fine that matchmaking is done on the app since I have plenty devices that do matchmaking through the actual system already.
Yep.This thread will be fun to revisit once Nintendo has actually clarified how this works.
Which, admittedly, might not be for a while.
The article doesn't say that
The patent suggests it does, so ¯\_(ツ_/¯
Wait for what?Yep.
I wish people would wait and hear the details. Yeah, it doesn't sound good, but wait and hear exactly what's going on.
Which is stupid. This stuff should have been laid out during the presentation. But it's clear they either aren't developing it. OR it's whole implementation isn't ready.
I mean they are charging for the service later on. I wouldn't be shocked if we made it all the way to launch and we still didn't know how this all worked.
The Xbox 360 handled cross-game party chat on a 512MB RAM device, come on. The Vita does it, cross platform too, and free.RAM usage has scaled through the years, you're also confusing software-level and OS-level integration. An App isn't going to handle your game's actual matchmaking.
As someone who finds it much easier and faster to manage friends and messaging on PSN using the app, I sort of understand this?
one man misspoke a bit
I have never owned a Wii U, it didn't sound right to me either, but someone in this thread was presenting that as a defence of this.
I TRUSTED YOU NINTENDO I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU
WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU
Yep.

Can someone just go ahead and do that Photoshop of the window looking out while it's raining outside and seeing the Switch there instead of the Wii U?
The Japanese breakdown (unless it changed recently) also says it supports a standard 3.5mm with audio in/out. Its only the English breakdown that has "audio out".
It lets them free up RAM. Games handling it pull from whatever RAM is open (ie. everything but whatever is fixed to the OS), but if the OS does it it *always* has to reserved a fixed amount for the entire OS functionality. OS-level features don't scale, and they seem to have ripped them all out to free up as much RAM as possible for games.

This close to cancelling my pre-order all together. Everything about this shit feels half-assed, or "economical". I'm waiting on the feature that makes it feel like I'm getting my monies worth. I'm not seeing a fucking thing yet.
The more I think about this, the more the stupidity of it beggars my imagination. Nintendo is just so fucking clueless about how to succeed.
The core idea of the Switch is great - a portable gaming machine with HD graphics with a consolidated Nintendo software pipleine, but every element revealed so far is just ham-handed and myopic that is uncomfortable to even watch.

Umm no the details aren't. Nice try though.Wait for what?
This stuff is on their site.
When the president of the American branch of a company goes out of his way to make these statements, why exactly does anyone need to wait to point out that it's stupid bullshit?
And they're making people pay for it too =/
Wait for what?

Whatever you want it to be to push your negative agenda, positive one, or whatever you want to interpret it as. Nobody knows.
the original xbox was able to do this, how much ram would these things really need?
Wait. This bullshit is a PAID app? This would bad enough if it was free. But they expect people to actually pay an additional fee for the privilege of using a kludgy, jerry rigged online chat system? Lol
WTF is going on at Nintendo? Are they short on cash? Between every other pricing decision so far...and now this...I haven't felt this nickel-and-dimed since the last (and final) time I flew on Delta Airlines.
Mainly, nobody so far has said you'll need this app to view a friends list or message your friends.
Reggie: we have a product for people who can't get a smartphone to use basic online features, it's called Wii U
This level of ram conservation makes it sound like multitasking apps won't be possible on the Switch, i.e. pause your game to access the menu and check messages or go on the browser.Like I said, RAM usage has scaled as well. I don't agree with their minimalized OS but this is what they wanted, they wanted their OS to be as small as possible. This is the result.
Whats the bet Nintendo did this so they could Skimp on Ram for the OS all to fund the stupid Joycon controllers

I'm seriously wondering what Nintendo plans on doing for people without smartphones. What makes this more bizarre, and actually makes me think this isn't the full story, is that flip phones are actually still VERY common in Japan
https://www.techinasia.com/japans-flip-phones-finally-dying
Meaning, that when the Switch launches, in Japan, almost 50% of potential users won't have a smartphone. Nintendo has always made decisions based somewhat skewed towards their Japanese audiences, so this seems a bit weird.
I think I'll wait and see what this really is
