Double Dragon 4 (PS4/Steam) teaser trailer

Did some researching and found out that Double Dragon 3 arcade had you paying for power ups and moves too. Woah thats pretty scummy.

I gotta say I love the series on the NES but never tried the Arcade versions. (got the gameboy port actually which was fun but almost impossible). Yeah that shot with the elevator looks damn disgusting but if it plays nice I am willing to forgive fore 10 pounds/dollars

Gotta admit fan prosject looks more visually pleasing:

Yep.. we had it hard.. I remember the arcade and I also have fund memories of the power ups..the game sucked!!!

Thanks to all the guys mentioning DD Neon here, I got one for cheap on steam for $2.49 and been playing nonstop for 7 hours!

I finished it in my first play through in almost 2.5 hours, and the final form boss was a bitch to finish (no power-ups). Only when I was done I realized this game is an RPG and I could've done some grinding and leveling up first ;_;

Now my character is much stronger and can beat the boss with a few hits. I'm addicted. Will switch to the next difficulty now.

Good hype build up until DD4 is out! I finished DD2 for the nth time a couple weeks ago too.

I'm in if it's fun but holy cow, this game is hideous. It almost looks like a bad fake because of the amateurish art direction.

Best one was Super Double Dragon for the SNES. Combat was ahead of its time.
I agree, and the worst part is that there hasn't really been anything quite like it since (Advance had some techniques, but it still felt like the arcade DD1 that served as its foundation). Most beat 'em ups since have focused more on juggles/combos/offense.

This is how I learned that the arcade version of Double Dragon 2 was ported to the Mega Drive, while not knowing how bad of a port it was.

As someone who puts Double Dragon 2: The Revenge for NES on the top of the list for the whole series, I am in full hype mode. That back throw knee combo made me make audible noises.

I hope it at least has more complicated controls that 2. I mean pressing both attacks to jump is too NES-ish. It was also very hard to knew in NES unless you had a turbo on the controller.

Super Double Dragon is my favorite in the series. People bash on it because its slow, but it plays soooooo damn good. First beat em up I played that had nice weapon combos. Lots of variety in the combat system. Biggest issue was that it was piss easy. I think I beat it the day I got it as a kid. Game was also missing Abobbo too. Overall best DD.

Can't believe how bad DD3 (Arcade Version) is. Did that game even get play tested? The difficulty in the NES version was ridiculous. Came so close to beating it a few times but can never beat the final boss.

So was the SNES Double Dragon 4 real or was it meant to just be "Super" Double Dragon? I see this game and while I'll end up playing it, it feels like one of those fan works that denies that there was a sequel with the same name.

Shame Wayforward doesn't have the rights anymore (or do they?), loved Neon last gen.

In the US it was Super Double Dragon but in Japan it was Return of Double Dragon. It never had the 4 moniker.

I always wondered , was Marian getting straight up murdered in the opening of Arcade Double Dragon 2 ever controversial? Usually women are just simply kidnapped, I wonder if that upset anybody at the time the game was new?

Not a fan. Why use NES sprites when Double Dragon Advance exists?
The modern Technos side of ASW loves rehashing NES DD2 stuff. DD4 being like this isn't too much of a surprise given how far to the lazy rehash side of things their Kunio-Kun releases have been staying on for the past couple of years. At least DD4 will probably play well, since their Kunio stuff is more than competent (if a bit unambitious) and NES DD2 is a solid base to build on, being one of the only good games in the franchise.

I would love to see good adaptations from Renegade and Target Renegade(there is one unofficial adaptation from target renegade for mobile phones, but nothing special to report).

Not digging the art style although I don't mind sprite based graphics.

Double Dragon was not bad back in the day but personally the Streets of Rage series is my fave series in the beat 'em up genre by far.

The arcade sprites are junky compared to the NES games. Especially Abobo if he's in this game. I hope to God Abobo is in this. He's the series mascot in my eyes.

Arcade Abobo just doesn't do it the same.

The arcade version has far superior graphics across the board compared to the NES version.

I played Super DD today and while I really enjoyed the fighting and weapons, I got bored quickly after a few missions. The enemies were the same every time with hardly any variety. I'd rather see new faces with every new area.

Most beat em ups were like that the n the 90's. The enemy variety wasn't that bad. Had the 2 main fodder characters, sword guy, clone, suit guy etc. No less than than any other in the series

Double Dragon Neon would be even better without that memory leak issue that made the game lag/experience framerate drop afte rplayign for a while. I had only 4gb when i played it and it was a known problem, hopefully with 8gb this does not happen anymore.

Never heard of a contreversy, but it was bad for the series storywise. They brought her back to life at the end, but that's only if you could beat it on the highest difficulty. In DD3 you wouldn't know she's still alive unless you made it to the end too. She isn't even in SDD.

A bit of a graphical upgrade would've been nice but personally Double Dragon II on the NES was one of the games that got me into gaming so the style to me is classic and I can't see it being done any other way.

So many countless nights trying to master that game and I loved doing the special moves like the hurricane kick and flying knee, it always felt so satisfying, I hope they keep the input for those special moves the same and make it just a two button game like the NES ones.

I also always enjoyed the hard platforming sections in DD II on the NES, it gave the game a special feel than just most side-scrolling beat 'em ups have.

Either way so hyped for this, was such a great surprise and if it's true that it's only 8 bucks that's a steal if it turns out to be good.

Going to have to replay DDII again some time, I thought it was a decent 8-bit beat-em-up at the time of release but I had no idea it was revered that strongly, just didn't seem all that great. River City Ransom shits all over it as a cooperative NES experience, though that one's got RPG-lite elements..

2016, aka the year of (forgotten) Japanse game revivals, continues it seems.

- Wild Guns Reloaded
- Blaster Master Zero
- Sonic Mania
- AM2R (unofficial but still...)
- Daytona 3
- Outrun 3 (mentioned recently by Sega arcade amusement guy)
- Garou 2 and other lesser known SNK IP (being hinted at by newly invigorated SNK)
- Double Dragon 4

Any I missed?

As for DD4: I never throughout I'd see the day that DD2, aka my favorite of the old games due to its The Warriors / Escape From NY vibe and really crunchy sounding hits, would make a return by means of its art and style being used for a new official (numbered!) entry.

Original DD director Kishimoto's involvement gives me hope that this will be a quality product at least in terms of the controls and combat. The music should be in good hands as well.

That said, the level art, hazards especially, and new enemy sprites do seem like they are not fully matching with the original character sprites unfortunately, resulting in a weird mix of styles imo (a bit like that new Bowser sprite used in SMMaker's Mario World content). Hopefully this will be ironed out some more despite the quickly arriving launch window.

Didn't she stay dead in the arcade version? The ending was just a happy picture of her and the brothers, her image in that photo sheds a "tear" implying it was taken before she was killed.

I'm happy they're going with the NES canon if just for that. (And pulling off the flying knee of course, that move was so satisfying to connect.)

Bases Loaded had a revival on PS4 in Japan only.

Buta-san/Psycho Pigs also got remade on the 3DS.

New Info!
You can unlock a lot of new playable characters, a new (endless?) Tower Mode where you fight to rise up a tower and duel mode, where two players fight each other.
Looking forward to this!

Sick! This is actually my most anticipated game this month, I just can't wait to master another Double Dragon game. Hoping it really mimics DD2 on the NES in terms of quality and design.

It looks like ass, needs to at least match the arcade graphics. Not looking for that arcade framerate though, it was abysmal.

Disagree, maybe it's my bias but I prefer the NES style. I never really liked the arcade games because of the lack of moves and impact that DD2 on the NES has.

I suspect it's an age thing. The arcade was were it was at for Double Dragon, it was bad ass, all the cool kids hung out around it. LOL

I'll probably grab this out of raw curiosity. I'm not terribly optimistic, but again, I'm very confident it'll at least be a better game than Neon. Curious to see how they structure this and how much of a focus there is on platforming compared to the Famicom and arcade games.

Well I'm 30 so I know it was a big arcade game but I just feel like the NES games added platforming and cool special moves which in my opinion gave the game more soul. I respect the arcade games for starting the series but DD2 on the NES was the best game in the series IMO, it just got everything right. Plus like I said it was one of the first video games I played when I was like a youngin' so the bias is strong haha.

NES DD2 was the best, that's why this game is being made as a sequel to it.
It's just known.

Arcade version always felt off compared to the NES version. (For 2)
