EVO 2017 Player's Choice Game - [Ended] UMVC3 wins #SometimesEvilWins

Tight between Pokken and Marvel dayumn. Personally, I want to see Marvel there again cos it just isn't EVO without it for me. Would love to see who gets the final word in UMvC3 as well.

Games that have sold more, have a more dedicated scene and have had even more tournament than KI aren't at EVO. It happens man.
 
Bet there's gonna be sniping at the last minute. There's bound to be at least one person with $1000+ waiting to drop at the last minute to try and get their game over the top before someone else can respond.

Maybe the KI playerbase should have shown Evo some love by... you know... showing up? The game got outdrawn by P4AU (which was an outdated game at the time) in 2014 and probably would have been outdrawn by UNIEL if that was at Evo that year. (And keep in mind that UNIEL is a game that probably haven't broken 50,000 units worldwide.) Game can't even outdraw obscure ass fighters at most regional events, either. It was either the game with the least or second fewest number of players every year it was at Evo.

Why run a tournament if no one shows up?

Why can't this be decided by MAHVEL and ARMS representatives facing off on neutral ground.

By which I mean Sonic Adventure 2 versus mode.

??? Many people believed that KI had the best showing at EVO for the past few years. Its biggest problem is it does not have a huge Japanese fanbase since they are big at EVO. KI being a new franchise for many considering its 20 year absents had 540 entrants last year. Tekken 7, a franchise thats been around longer only had 543.

Its ok Ill focus my attention on KI Cup.

If it's anything like last time, this whole thing is gonna keep escalating all the way until the end and get kinda crazy. The frontrunners probably all have plans cooking up.

That's my point -- the game, for one reason or another, can't outdraw obscure anime fighters and games that can't even be played outside of Asia yet.

I'm just asking you to look at it from an event organizer's perspective. You have to dedicate time and space and equipment for KI like any other game -- is the return worth it?

It was $10, the same registration fee as any other game. (It was free at a number of other events, though.) They did give out free t-shirts though (that they can't announce until after registration closes).
 
If Pokken does wind up being the victor, I hope the matches leading up to the finals include some rush down characters. The amount of zoners in the competition made it a little irritating for casual lookers to engage. Pokken also lasted a lot longer than anyone thought, but I do feel like the experience last year should help. Plus, y'all need to remember that the community is small, the franchise still fresh.

Ideally, I would have BlazBlue removed for MvC3, and Melee removed for Pokken. But alas, I think the donation pool is the way it is, precisely because they know they can get away with some good $. Ah well.

would be funny if at the last second some high roller makes wind jammers win over marvel. they should have included some troll picks just for this very reason. maybe include mario kart as a dark horse.

A few months. It basically died out after the Pokémon Championship. Pokkén coming out when the Wii U was on its death-bed didn't really help matters. Hopefully The Pokémon Company & Bandai Namco gets a Switch port out with the additional arcade characters.
 
Personally, I don't play Marvel or Pokken, but damn, I can at least get hype about Marvel even though I don't know what's happening. The story lines between players are awesome, and the fact that there are no repeat champs is super compelling.

Pokken just looks like a bunch of projectile spam and screeching. The only saving grace for Pokken's top 8 last year was SFV happening right next to it.

Xbox ain't the problem as much as being American developed is. KI on PS4 wouldn't be poppin in Japan either.

I get that, I just think it's unfair that NRS games get into EVO sight unseen when so many other games have to work their asses off. I'm just waiting for one of them to turn out to be complete garbage like SFxT was and have the whole "auto include because of who made it" thing blow up in their faces.

I don't think it would have done well even here in the US on PS4. There's way too many better fighters on PS4.

One thing that's funny though is that despite Japanese people generally not caring about KI imo the hypest moment is still when that Japanese dude was juggling people with Cinder.

Seriously. I don't know if Nintendo fans are just funding this because it's a Nintendo game or if they legitimately enjoy watching but I can't imagine people actually thought what happened at Evo was good to watch at all.

I was at Evo and i remember there were times when like 10 or fewer people were sitting around the screen watching pokken matches.

I find it really dull every time I watch it. But it's very fun to play, and as a Smash player I can sympathize more with the Pokken community. Not that I've voted or even decided what to root for one way or the other.
