Hard mode is behind a paywall? Please tell me I read that wrong???? 🤔

Hopefully it's more than just a damage modifier. If they rebalance the various aspects of the game (weapon durability, ingredients, stamina) and mirror the world (Master Quest style) I could see it being DLC worthy.

It's been said before I'm sure but the holiday pack will obviously have Zelda playable in her own original storyline where she tackles a dungeon. So she's not playable in the main game but is in the dlc. So for everybody who wanted her, celebrate! She's playable.

What are the chances that DLC 2 will feature a playable Zelda or someone other than Link?

Bet you're spot on actually.

Oh come on, all the people saying "you wanted Nintendo to get with the times, here we are..."

They've been with the times. For at least half a decade, since 2012 when they started selling DLC for NSMB2 and Fire Emblem Awakening. Their first season pass was 2014 with Mario Golf World Tour (which doubled the number of courses in the game). They've had great success with DLC in games like Mario Kart, Pikmin 3 and Smash Bros.

This is officially business as usual.

Seriously how many years from now are people still going to be saying "oh man, DLC, what sort of Nintendo is this?!"

Reminds me of the people who were convinced the Switch would have friend codes even though Wii U launched without them.

Gotta find something to complain about right?

When a single-player game like this has a season pass I usually wait for a physical release of the complete package. I always think might as well experience everything in one go.

I'm getting the Wii U version at launch regardless though. I have time to see if I'll bother getting the pass for that version or get a complete Switch version (or at least a budget switch copy plus season pass) in the future.

The season pass honestly seems kind of weak for the price.

Nintendo switch logo shirt??? Wtf @ selling in game advertisement to consumers. What about wii u owners? Is this how they're going to set the two versions apart?

Yes. Obviously they want to convince people playing Zelda on Switch to buy a Switch.

Happy to see new contents coming, considering how big the game already seems to be
It's a little bit pricy, especially because the only actual content I'm interested in is the Dungeon/Story

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Come on people why are you all so damn negative about this? We get a probably massive game in March and will get an addition to that end of the year...

Its not like they make you pay 3,99€ to use the master sword or 1,99€ for a nice camouflage shirt and skirt....
People just want Nintendo to offer all the good things the competition offers but without having to actually pay for it - this is the online fee or Switch sub 200 bucks or bust all over again.

No one wants to pay for stuff but act surprised when studio xyz get closed down. Zelda BotW is by far one of the biggest Nintendo projects ever - it was always going to have paid DLC. And this wouldnt be a big news for any other console game in 2017 - but its Nintendo so some people feel the need to be extra offended by it.

So Nintendo is going down that pass. Holiday DLC sounds fine but paying for Cave of Trials and Hard Mode?

Beyond disappointed.

Locking a hard mode behind DLC. What's next?

Imagine if this was Ubisoft or EA We'd have 10 threads on it already with a click bait title lol.

Yeah I'm not keen on that idea, but it'll work on me as that's the only way I'd playthrough a game like this again.

And I'm not surprised as 200cc on MK8 was part of dlc.

Sounds good. Haven't been disappointed with Nintendo DLC yet. Still I'm waiting till Summer before deciding on whether to buy it or not.

Pack 2 sounds great but Pack 1 sounds like a cheap cash grab. Hard mode and cave of trials are hardly new concepts to the series...

Pretty conflicted so I might just wait to see what gets revealed in pack 2 before making a decision.

Hard mode as dlc? Blech. I hope it's something more engaging than all damage being doubled or doing a full heart.

I thought some of Nintendo's dlc was fairly priced in the past, but I'll have to wait to see the story content before I dive in.

As most have noted, the first set of DLC... but the second! Nintendo sure know their fans, this will really bring in more revenue.

How is $20 expensive?

It's a third of the full price of the game and it bumps up the price to $80 dollars to have everything. Are they offering an extra third of the game worth of content for this DLC? Doesn't sound like it from what they're outlining.

I don't usually buy DLC, but I might have ever to on this one.

Don't have a problem with its existence. Developers/publishers want to get paid for their work, and I don't have enough contempt for them to deny them that. Zelda is a big ass game as it is.

I can cope with the second part but not the other bits. I'll probably hold fire till I know what exactly I'm getting, even if I pay more overall.

Definitely changes a lot of things indeed. Nintendo still locking out a damn difficulty mode behind a 20 bucks season pass. A new story and a dungeon for 20 bucks. Just Wow.
To think that for 20 bucks, some other publishers bring a new region, with a new additionnal story.

Wait 200cc was DLC? WTF. I remember unlocking higher CC in double dash by just playing it, guess those days are long gone.

At least some developers are doing it as free updates like DOOM did with arcade and a new difficulty, along with Gears 4 is adding new difficulty to campaign and horde mode.

You can tell who didn't bother with the Wii U and 3ds from reactions. Or likely didn't. Nintendo and DLC and Season passes aren't new. They did it for Mario Kart 8, Smash, Fire Emblem, Hyrule Warriors, and Pikmen 3 (their first game with dlc). Could be forgetting some. All were pretty significant but the games were already packed with content. So we aren't going to be taken advantage of here. Of that I'm certain. Going to judge Nintendo on past efforts until shown otherwise.

This reads that if you buy the pass now you get those items now as a bonus. It is to encourage people to buy it now rather than wait and see if it will be worth it.

I think you can still wait and see as it says pre-purchase or purchase.

I think it just means they appear immediately and not as post-game content...

Still, bit weird wording it as exclusive content to season pass...when you can't buy the content individually anyway.
No biggie.

It wasn't. 200cc was added in a free update for everyone.

but we don't know that though? and an additional story is pretty beefy content imo. Considering if it's voiced like the rest of the game and lasts longer than 1 hour, I think that's really fair.

So even Zelda is not safe from this Season Pack sh*t anymore ? That's sad.

(I know Mario Kart 8 also had DLCs. But they doubled the game content, and were announced once the main game was out...)

I'll never understand people complaining about a season pass announcement before the game is released. I mean, what difference does it make? Yeah, sucks that a company announces that you'll have more content if you liked the game.
And they have to plan it, if you really believe that a company should ask themself "Ok... now what? Should we do something more, like DLCs? Shirts? Mugs?", only after the launch, that's not how it works.

"Hey Tim, for a future DL-" "SHUT UP, FRANK! It's not midnight yet, still 5 mins to go until D1."

Would be hilarious if the paid DLC Hard Mode was just double damage, like the last time a Zelda game had a paid difficulty boost.

This is not bad news, but I think it would have been better received if they announced after launch. By the time the second DLC pack comes out people will be ready to play new content.

But they're bringing a new dungeon and a new story on that $20 purchase, among other things.

So...basically the same?

I don't even care about hard mode but locking it behind a paywall is shitty. And since I don't care about the cave of trials either, not letting you purchase the packs individually is shitty too.

Not interested in the first DLC but a second story sounds awesome. Hope it features a different main character like the DLC you usually see from western devs.

It's really sad when I see comments like that. Maybe they will put enough content to justify the price but 20$ is expensive. It's more than many indie games out there, you can even buy AAA titles a few months after release for 20$. Just because the worst kind of companies (Activision, EA, bisoft, Bethesda etc) charge 50-60$ for season passes, doesn't make 20$ cheap.

Nintendo "learning" all the wrong lessons 😭😭😭

Voice chat and partying through a phone app but season passes 🤔

Hope the value is similar to MK8, that was great, but making hard mode DLC is lol

Sorry my mind was hazy, I purchased the MK8 dlc and was sure that 200cc was part of that.

It was a long time ago now, so apologies.
