If you make a joke about homosexuals, does it make you homophobic ?

I do not agree with you either on the fact that he "spreads antisemic messages".

Nobody said he's Judeophobic (is that a thing?)

If he paid those guys to hold up a sign that said Death to All Gays then he would be making an anti-gay "joke"

And again, how was that video in any way a joke, satire, funny, or anything. I really don't see why the sign had to say that. I am actually quite familiar with the technical aspects of comedy

No. It doesn't make you homophobic.

But paying people to hold up a sign "Dead to all gays" at least makes you spread homophobic messages.

Secondly, there is no joke. It is straight up offensive. If he wanted to point out that people do anything, there is literally an infinite amount of things he could have made them write on that sign, that were a. funny and b. not offensive, while C still being bat shit crazy.

I like him but he fucked up and I hope he learns from this (I assume he will, since he is often actually pretty reasonable). It was bad comedy and in bad taste, but I have no intention to believe he is a nazi/alt right and I doubt the people who label him as such watch his channel.

You just said it yourself, it's definitely the amount of people and intent.

Would you actually care to stop for a second and believe that people like this actually exist? Some people think that jokes are just jokes, but aren't racists nor the anti-christ. Not everyone lives in this internet bubble.

Why would paying 100,000 people to hold up "Death to All Jews" be anti-semitic? I intend for it to be a joke. Looveee meeeeee

"He doesn't deserve the avalanche of vitriol" lmao fuck that and fuck him. "Haha millions of innocent died horrifically! They were hunted down and rounded up like cattle to be slaughtered ROFL like comment subscribe"

Nail him to the wall for this shit.

Some people just want to watch the world burn.

Did I do that right?

Jokes aside, Im pretty sure this was just a stupid decision by the guy. Thisia different then Mel Gibson ranting and raving about Jews.

But as a big face of Disney and kids that watch his videos its a very bad choice he made

the word you are searching for is antisemitic, and there are quite a few people in this thread saying he is

That's... not what happened. It's not "frequently" and using Hitler imagery ironically isn't exactly making jews the butt end of jokes. I'm not saying he didn't fuck up on this last video, but what you said just isn't true

Hmmm showing somebody dressed as Jesus saying "Hitler did absolutely nothing wrong" "He's in heaven now next to god" and personally saying that "Jews somehow found another way to fuck Jesus over" didn't happen?

I can almost hear the goalposts moving. We are about to argue the definition of the word frequently, aren't we? Is it more than 3 times but less than 4 times? Is it a dozen? This should be fun!

Engaging in antisemitism in "edgy" humor does not make someone actively antisemitic but it does make them selfish and oblivious enough to prioritize their own amusement over the safety and well being of others.

Whether or not he believes this stuff or ever would, given that a disturbing percentage of the alt right were gradually radicalized through inundation of ever escalating "edgy" humor, he is further contributing to the mainstreaming of the tools that help groom white supremacists.

Doing so obliviously does not somehow make it all cool.

Him being someone whose life (and income) revolves around social media, he was well aware of the reaction he'd get.

Part of me thinks he done it on purpose, but perhaps wasn't expecting YouTube to distance themselves from him.

In the age of social media and online forums you could say that you don't like McDonalds and you'd be greeted by thousands of people highly offended, close to tears, and wishing death upon you. Anything related to gender, race, sexuality or religion in anyway is a no-go zone, I just tend to keep my opinons to myself on anything like that.

People who are high profile online and choose to comment on those sort's of things are doing it for attention, to stay relevant, and to cause reactions.

He definitely knew what he was getting himself into. He even explains it in the video in question along with his apology.
I agree with you, it's just a shame that it is the way you described.

This here is my neighbor John... He is a little bit racist, but genuinely a nice guy.

not a very well informed opinion

Overly sensitive?
Most my friends grandparents died in horrible ways during the holocaust.
Six million went trough genocide, and he dressed like a Nazi?

Canceling his show is the least he deserves.

I know a lot of people who have/had relatives who lived during the holocaust and have terrible memories to show for it, too, yet I can understand a joke and dark humor and not complain. So yeah... overly sensetive.

You can argue about whether Pewds is antisemitic or racist or whatever all the live-long day, but it's incredibly unproductive.

He did an anti-semitic thing. Several times, arguably. That is a fact. It is also a fact that if you display the message "death to all jews", even if meant as a joke, that you are spreading an anti-semitic message. Joking about stuff like that normalizes the speech as well as the behavior.

And it's a shitty joke.

"He doesn't deserve the avalanche of vitriol" lmao fuck that and fuck him. "Haha millions of innocent died horrifically! They were hunted down and rounded up like cattle to be slaughtered ROFL like comment subscribe"

No you posted over 2 years ago that PDP was the worst person in gaming. You don't care if he what he said was racist or not. You just love getting off on him in a shit storm.

God I never watched a PDP video until today. I don't get it at all, but there is a lot of things I don't get thankfully.

Or is this the death knell of his channel?

I mean, iDubbbz and Filthy Frank are still doing great so... Nah, If anything, iDubbbz and Frank fans will start going to Pewdiepie videos now that he's free to do whatever he wants.

Funny enough there was an avalanche about the whole "N-Word" drama with iDubbbz and he's sponsored by the same company that sponsored Pewds.

This here is my neighbor John. He makes racist/antisemitic remarks without context over and over. When you point out that is wrong, he apologizes, only to make the same mistake again. A genuinely nice guy.

What antisemitic remarks has he made over and over?

I just watched the video in question. I cannot comprehend what possessed him to even type that, let alone upload the video. What the hell did he think was going to happen? His audience may primarily consist of middle schoolers and 4 Chan users but when you have the most subscribers on YouTube, you project an image to an audience far greater than your base.

He can go fall into obscurity with JonTron. Good to see that sponsors are not putting up with the lowest form of entertainment.

How about we just don't fucking insult anyone's race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation? That is not necessary for humor unless your only audience is the Alt-Right, which is indeed deplorable. These insults are not necessary to build and maintain a successful Youtube Channel.

Paying people to hold up signs saying "death to all jews" isn't anti-semitic?

If I paid 100,000 people to hold the same sign to march on washington, would it be anti-semitic?

Where is the line?

Well the line is clearly somewhere in between.
It's important to think about the context, the intent and the result of his actions.

It was a stupid joke made mainly for people (his fans) who understand that it's a stupid joke.
To say that he was trying to carry a message is just misleading.

RsI9t.gif

rather than him stopping, its like they remove the shackle out of him. dude gonna go ham and gain subscriber anyway.

he does have beef with youtube. this past couple of month he was ranting about youtube so much its getting kinda annoying hha

What he did was wrong but what is also wrong is all these fucking gloaters. Call him out sure but some of this "Ha ha I always knew he was a cunt" stuff is ugly as fuck too.

The political journalist Rebecca Traister described this phenomenon to me as “the finger trap.” You are placed loosely within the joke, which is so playful, so light—why protest? It’s only when you pull back—show that you’re hurt, or get angry, or try to argue that the joke is a lie, or, worse, deny that the joke is funny—that the joke tightens. If you object, you’re a censor. If you show pain, you’re a weakling. It’s a dynamic that goes back to the rude, rule-breaking Groucho Marx—destroyer of élites!—and Margaret Dumont, pop culture’s primal pearl-clutcher.

No, reread my post and the one I was replying to.

Homophobic is not the same as anti-gay. Pewdiepie isn't making these jokes because he's scared deep down that he's actually Jewish

Homophobic isn't the same as anti-gay... Can you explain the difference between someone who is homophobic and someone who is anti-gay, because I can't decide which is worse

"Put shoe on head" is a good example of this.

Maybe the truth is in the middle...

Don't like PewDiePie, like at all, but I think the reaction is a little overboard.

Why do shows like Family Guy or countless of comedians get a pass on satirical hateful language but this dude doesn't?

He has made 8 other videos with similar anti-Semitic remarks as 'jokes'.

I mean I don't disagree that a lot of his videos have featured Hitler or Nazi archive footage lately and I already said I didn't like it at the time. But it's not exactly the same as saying racist or antisemitic remarks over and over. For better or worse, there's no commentary or substance behind these "memes"

I know a lot of people who have/had relatives who lived during the holocaust and have terrible memories to show for it, too, yet I can understand a joke and dark humor and not complain. So yeah... overly sensetive.

You realize it's more then just one video right?

Hm, yes it did happen but that first example is more akin to parody and satire than this last video. And just plain using Hitler imagery and saying the word "nazi" does not make you anti-semitic. One of these accused videos is he punching and "killing" one of his characters when he descovers he is a nazi.

I just watched the video in question. I cannot comprehend what possessed him to even type that, let alone upload the video. What the hell did he think was going to happen? You don't actually believe that will happen right? Jon began his descent after he broke off from GameGrump (Arin must be so relieved right now) and start to become more and more alt-right. As most people said it, Pewdiepie doesn't dance with the alt-right crowd, aside from "edgy memes"

*comedian holds up sign that says "Death to All Jews*

Comedian: "lol this is so funny"

I must have missed that stand up act

Why do shows like Family Guy or countless of comedians get a pass on satirical hateful language but this dude doesn't?

1. A lot of comedians actually have some intelligence behind jokes like this. For example, Mel Brooks' Nazi jokes were intended to ridicule Nazism to the point of making it impossible to take seriously. He was also in the military in World War 2 and approached things from that perspective.

2. Family Guy actually got heat for the episode you're thinking of.

3. A lot of comedians are pretty horrible too.

Because GAF hates Pewdiepie. They try to justify themselves with this.

And he's been "Anti-PC" and went the Frank and iDubbbz route for all of the 2016 and now 2017.

Even more funny, Pewdiepie hangs with Ethan and Hila from H3H3 who are Jews.

Family Guy and most comedians do not market to children

The Daily Stormer, the white nationalist and neo-Nazi blog, posted an article Jan. 12 applauding Kjellberg. “He could be doing all this only to cause a stir things up and get free publicity,” the Stormer wrote in a now-unavailable post (except via a cached version). “Ultimately, it doesn’t matter, since the effect is the same; it normalizes Nazism, and marginalizes our enemies.”

Bold for emphasis, it seems it's hard for people to understand this

Family Guy and most comedians do not market to children

I feel like this is his' entire problem. He "matured" and want to have the FilthyFrank and iDubbz fan-base (along with their subscribe count), but since he's overly popular he still has all these kids that like him watching him. I do not feel pity for him for this, but it's clear that he doesn't want to go back to that lol

Bold for emphasis, it seems it's hard for people to understand this

Yeah, this sucks. He should definitely read this, since he'll see that his words have more weight than he actually think and luckily he steps down a notch. He's associating with scumbag people and ideals even if he isn't one himself
