Lol

They didn't understand what jew meant. They said it themselves and apologized. He got rejected by a bunch of other people and he was expecting this to be the same. His poor judgement was still airing it

Was that seriously their argument? So they still knew that they were saying "Death to all -blank-"? They don't have any excuse.

Most of the Retweets and replys are answering how JK doesn't get it.

I'm so glad I was part of the last generation to grow up without the internet.

When we were kids we were able to be idiots without it being documented for eternity.

JK is right.

What? The "Subscribe to Keemstar" was part of his request to them. It was literally said in the exact same video. How would he salvage it? Did he go back in time?

It's a bad joke. But it's not any different than any edgy ass jokes you will see on South Park or Family Guy or what have you.
Like I said I haven't able to watch it, but I was told, perhaps unclearly, and that led me to think that PDP was the one who said the Keemstar joke after the dudes held up the sign. Like a punchline. Also was the shocked part also part of the joke?

Doesn't change my own opinion in the other thread that it was shitty edgy joke, but I'll verify for myself.

Disney & YT dumping him likely won't impact him much, but JK Rowling's reach on social media is pretty huge. I can see a bunch of tumblr/twitter memes coming out of this, and THAT is what will kill PewDiePie's channel/career.

how will that kill his channel? I don't know if you are massively overestimating twitter/tumblr or I'm underestimating their reach.

lol ok we'll continue with the numbers thing

2) You said kids and teens will see this, reacting this way, even if he's acting, shows them that's unacceptable language. He, or someone he knew, definitely sent that. That's not what I'm saying.

3) Yeah, it's clearly aimed to be like an "offensive joke", at Keemstar mostly, but I'm just arguing that making offensive jokes doesn't make you a bigot, automatically. They're brands, obviously, once people start a hubub, they'll react accordingly.
When you have a viewership of 50+ million people there are no longer such things as inside jokes. This is mainstream. He posted multiple videos that could easily be taken for being anti-semitic(and perhaps were anti semitic) and whatever the motivation, they were very offensive to a lot of people. Moves by major sponsors made that quite clear.

Making offensive joke repeatedly kind of does though. Let's say he made that "joke" (multiple jokes actually) about another race instead of Jews. How would have that sounded? You bet your ass defense wouldn't be that adamant.

Was that seriously their argument? So they still knew that they were saying "Death to all -blank-"? They don't have any excuse.

They probably desperately needed the money if they were willing to do it, I don't think we should blame the Indians in this scenario.

Being linked to anti semitism regardless of how successful you are is a death sentence. Look at what happened to Mel Gibson. No company wants to be associated with someone with perceived racist views.

I think Gibson's comments were overblown and he did apologize them several times. Also Andrew Garfield who's Jewish himself had nothing but good things to say about Gibson and about working with him in Hacksaw Ridge.

I think it's even more disturbing how Disney/YouTube supported someone who openly used the N word and FA word in his videos.

And this particular incident happened in January.

This only broke the camels back because he got bad press out of it. They wouldn't have cared otherwise.

are you talking about 2017 Oscar nominee Mel Gibson?
yeah he totally got black listed by companies.

For well over 10 years he absolutely was, yeah. Not until other actors actively had to lobby for Hollywood to give him a second chance for the last few years.

And it's not like this prick is an actual talent like Mel Gibson is as a director.

Nah, he'll probably just move onto Twitch, if he isn't there already.
Twitch is owned by Amazon. There is a good chance that he could either be prevented from streaming there if he hasn't started or dropped if he has. Amazon will not want to have anything to do with this sort of thing either any more then Disney or Google.

Seriously? I am sure the defenders will leap at him just being a joker. Let's see he is racist, anti-semitic and perhaps more. Hmm, walks like a duck, talks like a duck, perhaps he is indeed a duck (or a dick).

Of course this 'prick' has talent. He makes enjoyable video content. It does take 'talent' to be a popular Youtube personality. Wether you like his output or not.

Some guy on the internet said some racist shit. I'm not going to go out of my way to research the guy to see if he's really a good person or not. I'll label him a racist and move on with my day.

Also you can't just say offensive shit and then call it a joke. Life doesn't work like that.

And yeah I am happy about the backlash he's facing. Every time someone does stupid shit like this, there's always some crazy defence force.

You people treat calling people nazi the same you treat console wars. This shit is disgusting.
I haven't referred to anyone related to this entire affair as a "nazi," so I don't know what you're talking about. If it makes you feel any better, I personally don't believe that he is one. He is a rich, privileged asshole, though.

What I'm saying is, Mel Gibson is one of the best directors in the business. That has a lot more cultural value and clout than "random asshole who makes stupid YouTube videos."

Mel Gibson was a household name. He would've never received a second chance if not. And even still, it took almost 15 years for him to get it.

And no, PDP is not talented, for fucksake.

Like I said I haven't able to watch it, but I was told, perhaps unclearly, and that led me to think that PDP was the one who said the Keemstar joke after the dudes held up the sign. Like a punchline. Also was the shocked part also part of the joke?

In the request he asks them what to write on the sign, but also what to say. The dudes in the video say "Subscribe to Keemstar" at the exact moment they show the sign.

The article I read about this, they were interviewed, they didn't know what it is they even wrote. PDP took advantage of him.

As I already said, they said they didn't know what jews were. That means they still know they said "death to all -blank-". You cannot blame this on ignorance, which still doesn't justify something like this. Yeah, Pewdiepie is mostly to blame in this, but don't go pretending like those two guys are nice and innocent victims.

No no no, PDP didn't it was Keemstar who through proxy forced PDP's hand to do this.

This fucking thread is going to give me aneurysm. I'm out, enjoy your "Death to all jews" humor defenders.

Fuck. This.

Do you have some sort of reading problem?

Not sure about that. People that are upset seem to conveniently ignore context just fine from what i'm seeing.

Sure there is the context that he is making fun of another youtuber. But this stuff wasn't in just one video. It's not like he made a distinct parody video of Keemstar. There's also the context of him having people who may or may not need that 5 bucks to eat being tricked into writing anti Semitic phrases to prove "how crazy the world is." Corporations choosing to distance themselves from that is their choice.

I feel like people are underestimating how big PewDiePie is. I'm not trying to defend him, but he has 53 MILLION subscribers, the number isn't going down at all (People are unsubscribing but he's still overall gaining subscribers), and has all kinds of streams of revenue. Sure it may be a loss for him to lose Disney and his Youtube TV show, but his main channel is still going and he's going to continue to make tons of money.

Not trying to defend him, what he did was dumb and shitty, but I don't see where people are getting the idea that this will end his career.

Yeah, let's take advice from the white dude who casually uses nigger, affectionately calls his fans niggerfaggots, and stalks and harrasses a girl for calling out on his racism just because she also uses racist slurs too.

I was completely fucking horrified how much Reddit ate up this YouTuber's shit just because he had a sick gotcha moment video.

Yeah that dude is a piece of garbage too.

Is it really worth trying to defend this guy? What serious concern develops from a corporate partner pulling their support of a youtuber over some ill-conceived and poorly executed humor? Comedy is hard, especially when you venture outside of dick/fart jokes and slapstick, and folks in public view who just shit out some clumsy "lol racist comment" find out real fast that they're way out of their league when approaching sensitive subjects. No pity here.

Some guy on the internet said some racist shit. I'm not going to go out of my way to research the guy to see if he's really a good person or not. I'll label him a racist and move on with my day.

And that's how Trump won, "if he said so, he's right, I don't need more information"

So it's okay to be anti semetic if you're paid for it? That's a slippery slope right there.

I was going on the assumption of some posters here that they didn't understand what the sign even meant. Paying someone peanuts to make anti-semitic "jokes" for you is pretty exploitative, no?

Oh, i'm fine with Disney and others dropping him, mind you. You don't do shitty edgy jokes while under big multi-million dollar companies and not expect to not get kicked ou for it. I'm just against labeling him as a nazi or white supremacists. He isn't.

It's not an inside joke, it's the jokes context. Context is everything. If you dislike, or are offended by the joke after understanding what it's going for, then that's fine.

And companies react to the public's reaction. This is to be expected, I know.

not much of a PDP watcher, but I do watch h3h3 occasionally.

He'll definitely make a video about this ordeal. How couldn't he?

Now looking forward to the mental gymnastics he is going to go through to somehow justify it.

"He's an entertainer/commedian, it's what he does! PC culture bullshit!" isn't gonna cut it.

Hope PDP does the right thing and issues a real apology and tries to clean up his act a little.

Isn't Ethan and his gf/wife also Jewish? Actually watch him use that as defence for defending the jokes? He likes to be controversial, that's for sure.

Meh, I don't know much about what they do. Are they even fluent in English? I honestly don't think writing "death to all _____" is inherently offensive. Fill in the blank with whatever, I don't know, let's just say "ducks." Would that be offensive? No.

So yeah, I do blame PDP almost entirely for it.

Of course PDP is talented. Don't take being a Youtube personality for granted. It demands drive, commitment, camera presence, being able to connect with your audience so they watch more than 30 seconds of your video, editing skills, business skills, ....

It has nothing to do with you liking what he does or not. He didn't just get lucky. If it was luck, his bubble would have popped years ago.

Boy, that was fast.

Two cents: Joke or not, there had to be consequences as anti-Semitism/Nazism does not deserve to be normalized in any way.

Could be wrong here but skimming the thread it seems like most people are labeling him an idiot and a dumbass. There seems to be light discussion about "Does he really hold these views?" and that's about it. So I'm not sure where you and others are getting this "Nazi witch hunt" narrative from.

Well deserved. I don't get the people wanting to throw a pity party for this heap of shit. He brought this on himself. Nobody forced him to make the video. Just like nobody forced him to drop an n bomb earlier this year. So fuck him.

Yeah it is offensive to most people even if you dont think so.

I'll also advise you not to say that death to all *any group of people* even as a joke because most people wont take too kindly to it.

One more thing: unlike ducks, Jews arent animals.

You would fucking check what the final word meant in that context. And if you watched the video, which I did to see what the fuzz was about earlier today, you see that they are writing in English and their knowledge of it is clearly decent. Of course they'd plead ignorance, they didn't expect it to blow up in their face, but they still want more money despite being shitty people.
