Other outlets need to independently verify the story to give it credibility to run. Otherwise all you can say is 'here's what the other outlet is saying' which very few outlets would want to do. If you can't add your own context in, you both are just giving free ads to a competitor and risking your reputation reporting on something you have no clue if is true.

it's not even worth really going that far down the hole, not because it could never happen, but because there would be total political anarchy during the transition and possible violence from citizens. they would probably hold some sort of special re-election under controlled terms while a plan is drawn up to deal with the mess. i just can't imagine a smooth jump down to the 6th in line for instance

People really need to stop thinking this. If he got away with anything, there wouldn't have been a resignation from Flynn, nor would a court have upheld the suspension of the Travel Ban.
We have yet to see what will happen regarding that if it goes to a higher court, but the voices of millions are being heard by people who do care, which is always a good thing.

Sigh... are we going to do this again? Before this was Obama delays inauguration, electoral college before that. There will be no new elections. But it will give us the opportunity to do massive damage in 2018 and 2020.

The Trumpies would probably turn this isn't a Ryan-organized conspiracy based on some of those election results.
Up to this point, the public had no proof that the Trump campaign communicated with Russian officials. They denied it every time they were asked. Yes, there were suspicions based on the investigations in the IC.
This basically proves to the public that there WAS communication, at the EXACT SAME TIME Russia was manipulating our election by leaking emails to WikiLeaks.
What we still don't know, is whether anyone in Trumps campaign knew about Russian involvement in the leaks, or helped in any way. That would be treason. This is just another (large) step towards finding that out.
It wouldn't look good, but the ones throwing him out would likely use the fact that they cut out those people to try and save their own skins. I think it would work for the most part. The thing about Trump is, most of his people are outsiders that can be easily excised from the party.

Yeah. There's absolutely no protocol for something like that. Would we need new candidates on both sides? Just the republicans with Dems needing to go Hilary again? Who runs the government while this theoretical election is going on? Obama? Would we need to go through another primary season? There's too many issues to handle it this way
