How on earth

Unless Trump himself ordered the hack, at most he was being a political shitbag. He all but admitted outright that he was close with Russia and no one cared. That he was in constant contact should be no surprise at all.

This might dog his presidency for a few years, get put into the spotlight from time to time, but ultimately nothing will come of it. Republicans largely won't fight it and the Dems will be off crying in some corner for the next 8 years. His supporters will still support him and the opposition will yell and scream, but not show up to vote.

So long as he stays mostly conservative and doesn't do anything blatantly illegal, like literal murder, his presidency is going to be pretty bulletproof. It might get embroiled in scandal, but like the campaign for presidency, it will have little to no effect.

During the Reagan and Nixon eras, people still gave a shit what the President did or didn't do regardless of party.

We keep getting this same message even though more and more stuff keeps coming out.

What is the deal really?

Well first he both needs to be successfully impeached by the House, then the Senate has to approve the impeachment by a 2/3rd vote(which acts as a conviction and forces him out while also ensuring he is barred from ever holding a public office position again).

No president has yet ever reached a full impeachment conviction(though both Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were impeached by the House, but were not convicted by the Senate and thus were able to maintain their position). Nixon resigned to avoid the expected impeachment trials.

Keep in mind also that Republicans do have majority, so this could be a LONG process, one in which is still an uphill battle until enough mounting evidence ensures the R party turns hard on him(they are a bunch of selfish pricks, so there is hope).

If and when that happens, and assuming Pence is not liable and still in office. It would go to him likely. Depending on how crazy this thing turns out, who knows though.

Interesting. Thank you for the detailed response.

Well, we have a maniacal president issuing executive orders without remorse. All these nonsensical patriot games that these politicians and journalists play make us weaker against all enemies. We're living in an age we're we are witnessing the sum of all fears that previous generations have grown up with. It's time for honest politicians and members of the government to go into the storm on a search and destroy for all corrupt and treasonous elements in the government. The American people have a debt of honor that can never be repaid. The threat vector has never been higher. The Cardinal of the Kremlin is locked on the American government in such an insidious way. The compromised elements of this government must be taken out, dead or alive.

Well, there is a Red Storm Rising, after all!

Good work, haha.

What the fuck must the rest of the world be thinking?

Watching this shit show.

We went through watching the Bush years.

The world is different and social media etc amplifies everything. But basically America was a joke then and is a joke now. It is pretty much the same shit, different year however we all know that isn't what America is like and that isn't what all Americans represent.

It is really just all the bits in the middle and the south that you would never, ever want to visit... and hope they don't nuke you.

I reelly think it's an attempt to appear "right all along" in the event nothing comes of this. With all of the time that has rolled off Trump until this point, it's a "safe" position to take.

Holy shit, Rachel Maddow is spitting fucking truth.

Not being able to trust the investigations because the people implicated are directly involved with either those departments or did not release this information when they knew about it indicating that they utilized for political leverage and not because it was their jobs.

Saying she's happy for the leaks but feels they indicate that anything further pursued by the government itself won't be above board.

During a bitter confirmation fight that focused partly on his closeness to Mr. Trump, Mr. Sessions said last month that he saw no need to remove himself from any decisions involving Russia-related investigations and the White House, writing that he was "not aware of a basis to recuse myself."

Justice Department guidelines prevent prosecutors from participating in a case in which they have "a personal or political relationship" with a person or group that would be directly affected by the outcome. But there has been wide disagreement over the years about how that should be interpreted, and a congressional measure that set off the use of an outside counsel in some situations was allowed to lapse in 1999.

How the fuck can it be interpreted any other way?

And the response to that was good as well. Basically, the administration was perfectly happy to keep Flynn on despite what they had been told about him. And it was because of leaks to journalists that he has now been removed, if not for them, he would still be there. It's good to see the Minority Leader recognize this. He also said he doesn't want Sessions involved, we'll see how that goes.

The odd thing is that that Obama received intelligence briefings about this the same time Trump did. How could he assume that Trump would address this once he became President? Maybe he wanted it to explode in Trump's face?

lol what a fucking joke. Can't even trust these fuckheads to properly investigate themselves at this point. Putin is having a real laugh at the total disintegration of American government and democracy.

Maddow's guest (Tim Weiner) summing it up well:

We're watching, in real time, a major counter espionage investigation against the White House.

Let that sink in for a moment ...

Holy shit, Rachel Maddow is hitting hard on this development.

So good.gif

Yea this is just more unreal than I expected.

By the end of the week Reagan is going to rise from the dead and shamble angrily towards the Whitehouse.

Lol Maddow laughing at the idea that McCain will come through here. Her guest is confident though. But he also seems confident still in Comey.

please let this be the watergate of our time. this will be so great. i love waking up every day and seeing how fucked up the whitehouse is now in only 3 weeks after 8 years of amazing and scandal free stability.

edit: hoho just catching up now but the fact manafort named specifically followed by repeated and specific denials by him of ever talking to any official at all is gonna be real interesting.

He's never stopped defending Russia. He never says a bad word about them but has no problem shitting on allies.

I really wish someone would spend the time to see how many times he's said good things about Russia compared to America. I really would not be surprised if he's said more good things about Putin than he has about the USA at this point.

Any real sources and not fake news sites? I want alternatives facts here guys not these real facts. Waiting for Fox and Friends to tell me how this is all Obamas fault. /S
