Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

That too. I wish the PS4 had a MAG, Modnation, LBP that isn't a port, Twisted Metal, Warhawk, Socom, Motorstorm, and Jak. The PS4 has had some great games but it feels like there is less variety on this system in terms of exclusives. Indies have filled some gaps and there are exciting games on the horizon (no pun intended), but I have concerns. GT Sport feels like GT5 all over again. If Sony doesn't talk at all about Dreams at E3, I hitting the panic button. I really hope the gameplay is new and exciting for God of War. Uncharted, Knack, and Detroit I am super pumped for. Horizon is day one. I just wish that Zipper was still around lol

Yeah 2009-2013 was so good for PS3. Although PS4 is hitting its stride right now, which is great.

I agree that they don't need a holiday game and probably won't have any big game outside knack 2 but I think they can get away with releasing Spider-Man in the holiday season if the movie turns out good in the summer and cash in on the marvel hype and it is like the perfect mainstream game. Insomniac are pretty good at finishing games on time so let's hope the target is this holiday season.

I don't think that'll be necessary, especially since we know that
Spider-Man is going to be in Infinity War
. If the movie is good, the type will continue through that.

Sony wont mind delaying and not having any big holiday game at all, but they also won't purposely evade a fall release if they can have the game ready and finished.

Horizon, GT Sport & TLG all aimed to be Holiday 2016 games.

Wasn't there talk of a big first party Sony JRPG?

I've given up hope of ever seeing another Sony produced AAA JRPG. I would love to be proved wrong.

I feel like once the PS4 Pro was announced, Horizon in 2017 was a foregone conclusion. As for GT Sport, I won't make any guesses with Polyphony's plans lol

Oh, I was just saying I was right about there being talk about a first party JRPG. I don't know if it is real or not.

Keep the dream alive
I know what you meant, but it's real. Definitely. My uncle who works at Sony told me about it
I mean, we know Verendus is a liar
He was, but I don't believe he was completely full of shit. He teased Spider-Man a while before it's reveal I think, and I know he mentioned a WB exclusive that "wasn't what we expect" or something like that. He knew some stuff, he just used that to troll everyone

GoW or Detroit. One of them must be released at the end of this year. They need a holiday-game.

They're going to have marketing rights to Battlefront 2, Destiny 2, and Red Dead Redemption 2. This is how they've thrived with the PS4 during the holiday season even without big exclusives.

No. No, they clearly don't.

Reference: every Fall since launch.

Let Third Parties carry the Fall and First Party games release January through September. That strategy has worked beautifully.

In fact: what was the last big Fall Sony release that sold big numbers? Uncharted 3 on PS3?

I think the only games that they should try to time for a holiday release are ND games and GT. But if they are not ready then delay them and release them when ready. Other games should avoid that period like the plague,

Sony seems to be positioning themselves for a three wave approach to the year.

Wave 1 (Early 2017):
Horizon, Gravity Rush 2, MLB The Show, Drawn to Death

Wave 2 (Summerish):
Uncharted: Lost Legacy, Wipeout Collection, Studio Japan remasters

Wave 3 (fall):
Gran Turismo, Knack 2, probably another small game or two like Matterfall

Pretty much. Unless Microsoft has some amazing Scorpio seller game waiting for the holiday, Sony shouldn't have to worry about sales. Although I could see Super Mario Odyssey being a beast sales wise

Lets not forget the Crash Trilogy in June :)

This is a rather solid year. Don't we also have PaRappa and Wipeout?

Show Persona some loveeeeeee

Yup yup!

Not a lot that appeals to me personally but on an objective level I think it's a solid line-up.
Very solid lineup. Also a couple of pages back, someone outright dismissed some of sony's 1st party games eventhough they reviewed well because it doesn't appeal to their interest. That's just dumb man, you should've known what to expect from their studios before buying a sony console

Horizon is already pre-ordered. Uncharted is a guarantee. Knack 2 is 50/50 since I did play and complete the first one. Crash is 50/50 (added) and Matterfall is from one of my favorite developers, Housemarque but want to see more of the game and what it actually is.

The others don't care about. What games are being remastered from Japan Studio?

Also, I would love a 3D Dot Game Heroes and Dragon's Crown PS4 ports but I would say that the chances of this happening is literally zero percent.

Patapon, Parappa the Rapper and LocoRoco are getting remastered!

Detroit would be great on that August/September period, right before the fall craze (same window as Until Dawn)

If it doesnt make it by then, its better to push to 2018 or it will be buried by third party's

Sci-fi? Where does this come from? I love sci-fi.

It's just conjecture, based off of the fact that Sony doesn't have a sci-fi IP at the moment, and that Sucker Punch's game might fill that void.

Personally, I either want it to be Blade Runner esque sci-fi or a past historical setting, or just something different from post apocalypse (Days Gone, TLOU2), loosely modern day (Spider-Man), and tribal (WiLD, Horizon), which Sony have covered.

Didn't Barlog tweet that GoW was playable start to finish a couple of months ago? That should be their Holiday 2017 title. A $349.99 PS4 Pro bundle would be a good competitor for Scorpio.

No they don't.

They really don't.

Third parties are filling that role in spades. Sony cramming in ANOTHER AAA game in that time would be a disaster.

And it seems to be working for them nicely.

Nioh is technically part of wave 1 as Sony are publishing it everywhere but Japan. Also the Parappa Remaster is scheduled to launch in March.

yeah, but it could be a very crude version of the game with stock assets and only basic animations and systems in place

SMS seems to be still hiring bigtime for this title

EDIT:
I don't think anything you said was egregiously wrong, but I do want to correct this bit. SMS has a few job listings, but it just looks like the sort of routine hiring you see all the time at big studios.

I saw a YouTube video and news only about a new portable patent that surfaced yesterday or something, but I can't find a thread here on it? No one's interested?

Edit: nm I finally found it!

Edit: thanks DriftingSpirit :)

SMS is still hiring bigtime for this title I believe
