Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

I mean this isn't just a console. It's a handheld and a tablet. If they do it right it could compete in the tablet market.

It's a handheld and a home gaming console, not a tablet. Nintendo has never advertised this as a tablet and that's clear from the feature set that is currently present. So we should judge this thing based on what it's being marketed as, not what we think it should be.

Im a little surprised that they didnt engineer the joycons to work as wired controllers when connected

I suppose they wanted it to be instant when going from inserted to being pulled out

Thanks. I thought I heard Zelda was performing better in HH than docked mode though?
One of the previews mentioned the person did not notice any slowdown or shuttering issues while docked. Basically he said he saw some instances of this during the preview events, but Nintendo has fixed them for launch.

bluetooth delay sounds upsetting, sometimes it's a thing you can't do much about because you live next to or above/below others with gadgets.

Do we have confirmation that the JoyCon use bluetooth? I've had the exact issue described for the left JoyCon on my Xbox One controller which uses Wifi for wireless connections.

The lack of video apps (tons of ways we do this already), browser (who the fuk uses a browser on a console anyway), and VC (this is almost assuredly coming later) don't bother me. The people who are harping on these points are just nitpicking because they don't have anything else to say.

What else is there to talk about? Zelda? Nintendo's not giving much information at all.

I seriously hope that the reason Nintendo isn't showing the Wii U version of Zelda anymore is not because it runs better than the Switch! We know about the lighting issue, but it would be pretty messed up lol

The capture button really looks like they forgot to design it lol

It's a camera, square button with the round lens on it :)

nah you've got that wrong. the grip that comes with the switch is just a plastic holder. the charge grip that you have to buy separately is the normal grip with a usb type c port to plug it in to charge.

Ah, this sucks. I figured the included would at least act as an energy passthru. Guess I'll stick with using a Pro Controller during TV Mode. I just hope the Joy Cons have a decent amount of energy when I bring them out for multiplayer stuff.

The only real and substantial problem is the joycon desync issue, because it might be a hardware defect, which I really hope isn't the case.
You're right. No one could possibly have different priorities than you. Thank God you're here to clear the air and cut through the fanboy nonsense so we can just talk about the important stuff.

I'm so mad. I can't BELIEVE Nintendo thought the Switch was in a good state for release just because the hardware is in good working condition (although even that's in question now with the Joy-Con problems some are having). The is easily the LEAST functional system UI I've seen in so long. Literally all you'll be able to do on this thing at launch is play a game, use the store, take screenshots, and look at system announcements. And the launch lineup is paltry. The only real game of note is Zelda, which is simultaneously being released on Wii U. I like minigame collections a lot, but 1-2 Switch looks abysmal.

It's very disappointing. That's for sure. And the no Virtual Console at launch thing is just icing on the terrible terrible cake.

No, no they couldn't.

A: There is not much of a tablet market at this point. Outside of iPads and Kindle's, the market has cratered.

B: Adding Android opens the door to widespread piracy.

It has been demonstrated time and time again in various threads including this one that this isn't true.

honestly the joy con grip reminds me of the wave bird for GCN aka one of the best controllers ever made in terms of ergonomics

I doubt it'll be as good but I'm sure it'll be fine

I'm playing with the split joy con setup tho. my hands will have freedom!

It reminds me more of the Dreamcast controller, aka one of the worst controllers ever made in term of ergonomics. Not unplayable, though.

Why are people giving Nintendo so much shit for selling a $70 pro controller when the DS4 is $65?

Not to mention the fact that Nintendo's gets 40 hours on a charge, and my lame old DS4's are lucky to get 4 hours sometimes.

Another comparison is Xbox One controllers. Great controllers, and I love them, but they're $60 and don't even include a rechargeable battery. That's extra!

So I'd say the Switch Pros are actually very fairly priced, albeit certainly not cheap.

This launch sounds like a complete mess.

HA! This is pretty much how every console launch goes. There will be glitches, bugs, logistical problems, etc. This is normal.

Well said!

Pre-order cancelled! I mean it, mot spending 400€ on a console thats not finished and where everything will be talked about later.

I will play Zelda somehow

First console launch for you I see.

Weird that every competitor in both of those spaces have the features you're saying don't matter, isn't it? Almost like they're standard or something.

Even if the Wii U version somehow performs better, that wouldn't be the reason they aren't showing it. Nintendo wants you to forget the Wii U even exists at this point. They're trying to sell Switch units, regardless of whether or not Zelda performs better on it.

Quite looking forward to not-real-games like Shovel Knight Treasure Trove and Fast RMX.

Also, the system UI may not have a huge range of features just yet, but functional is the one thing it totally is. For all the options the, say, Xbox One OS has (and it has a LOT of options), functionally it's a disaster.

weird

none of the other bluetooth wireless controllers have struggled this much right?

I suppose the XB1 had issues like this for sometime

I wonder what the root cause is

I haven't been following any of these news but I am debating about selling my wii u to go toward my Switch pre-order. My only question is I have a lot of virtual console games, mostly snes games. Is it a guarantee that these same games like super metroid or super mario world will come to the switch?? Has that been promised, but it just isnt coming out with the launch? thanks...

Apparently that frame rate issues been cleared up for the Switch based on a preview.

Pretty much everything is in line with my expectations... lacks features but what is there works well. Happy the ui is very quick and minimalist...

Only concerning thing is the left joycon issues... Hoping its a firmware thing and can be fixed quickly.

we only know that NES and SNES games will get online mp. but not which games will be released.

The Switch version is the one that looks better (has a higher resolution, at least) and is coming out on the new system Nintendo desperately wants you to buy. It's going to get all the attention.

Wii U and PS4 have been the only I bought at launch so far but I followed the XB1's launch very closely too and bought that shortly after.

The only real "game of note," not the only "real game" of note. Functional in terms of the functionality it has.
