Edit: looks like is about distance and obstruction

Hmmm that's concerning.

Hopefully they can issue a patch that allow the user the option to increase transmitting power at the cost of some battery life or to use the existing low power mode (if they sit close to the TV or in kickstand mode).

That's if that functionality is possible on the hardware, which it possibly isn't.

This sounds like a good solution, the joy-con have like 20 hours of battery life, I'm happily willing to shave off 5 of those if it means a better connection.

How are all of these people satisfied with getting Zelda on the Wii U, when Nintendo looks to have created one of the most elegant, well made and critically praised pieces of hardware in decades?

Like, I'd be crying into my keyboard as I typed, "yep, good thing I got a Wii U."

Had it pre-ordered for like $40. I don't plan to get a Switch right away. I'll get one eventually for Fire Emblem and mostly Xenoblade 2... but I'll try to buy a refurbished like with the Wii U. I'm not interested in spending the $400 for a Switch + Zelda when I can just get Zelda for $50 on hardware I already have.

Damn, you'd think Nintendo would test for things obstructing the controllers above all else. Seems unbelievable this would be overlooked. Praying for that day 1 patch to fix the joycon problems.

Um, isn't that kinda true though in terms of first party? Zelda, Snipperclipps, ARMS, MK8DX, Splatoon 2, FE Warriors, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, and likely Pokemon, Retro's game, and anything else they announce at E3 seems to be better than the majority of the Wii U's lifetime content.

What? Zelda is a wii u port, mario kart was on wii u, splatoon was on wii u, hyrule warriors, a xenoblade (2 oncluding vc) , mario 3d world, etc.

People really underwstimate Wii Us library...

Splatoon 2 was on wiiU?

Clearly Emily and Laura K dale were incredibly wrong in their false leaks.

I will say, stuff like Splatoon weren't there for the first year, unlike Switch.

Yes, Zelda and MK8 are indeed on Wii U...the thing is, only 13 million people have a Wii U. So, to everyone else, or at least the mainstream audience Nintendo is aiming this at, they're basically new experiences.

splatoon =/= splatoon 2
hyrule warriors =/= fire emblem warriors
xenoblade chronicles x =/= xenoblade chronicles 2
mario 3d world =/= mario odyssey

So Joycon when loose is fucked. What about when inside grip?

How was this not an issue at the preview events?

I think I some youtubers did mention disconnects at preview events, but they thought nothing of it since there was so much going on and all sorts of signal everywhere etc.

Blunty for example -- I could be wrong, but I think he mentioned it in one of his vids of a preview event.

Yeah this definitely sucks, i can see different scenarios where it can be a problem for some people.

Thankfully i play at ~2.5m from my TV and there will be nothing between the console and where i sit, so this shouldn't be an issue for me, but it sucks for people who play farther from the TV and/or with stuff in the middle.

Hopefully they can do something via software update to mitigate this problem to the point that it becomes a non issue in most situations, but i'm not sure how that would work or if it's possible. Definitely gonna keep an eye on how the situation evolves.

If it is about transmission power, hopefully they can make it an option for those who don't have an issue.

Yeah, something like "normal range" and "extended range". With the first one you get the full 20 hours and with the second one you get 15 or something like that.

Goddamn lucky I only tend to use this thing in handheld mode.

Id put money on a day one fix though

Still pretty bad and absolutely unacceptable, Nintendo. Youre coming off the wiiu and this is the shit you bring to the table?

Christ.

Holy moly... the signal gets blocked by a person's HAND?!

O_o

I wasn't worried about this issue at all earlier, but now I'm starting to worry a little.

I think it might be that the JoyCon software is pulling back on the broadcast signal or something. When I was at the Switch preview event, I played with the left JoyCon draped behind a couch in "super casual" play mode and it worked 100% then. Guess we will find out next Friday.

So seriously, I was going to have the Switch docked behind a wood door in my media cabinet.

I guess that is a no go, eh?

The WiiU only aold 13mill? :o

Wood isn't made up of mostly water like people are.

Water and walls are going to be way more disruptive to wireless signals than a wood panel is.

This is hardware. Not software.

Often problems like this aren't 100% hardware or software. There are ways that you could compensate for a hardware fault with software fixes. You could change the output signal on the controller or change how sensitive the Switch is to signals in software. You could also compensate for the signal being attenuated by hands.

seriously?

these kind of problems arent nintendo exclusive, all major hardware launches have issues

I know. But, like I said, things compound and overshadow the good news. Everything but this one issue seems to be peachy but the issue just had to happen nonetheless.

I haven't watched the video that shows the sync issue but I'm trying to figure out why you would be putting anything between the joycon and that tiny ass screen. You should be right up on it, no?

I can't recall: Are they using custom WiFi for the control signal as in Wii U? Or is it Bluetooth like Wii? Either way, the desynch problem is very concerning. I sincerely hope they figure this out and soon.
