17-minute-long IGN look at Mass Effect Andromeda (Peebee Loyalty Mission SPOILERS)

Do they ever stop talking? If that robo-companion is explaining every single thing that is happening on your screen then the PC is just saying what they're going to do right before you do it. Pretty condescending to the player's intelligence.

The biggest gripe I have with Not-Jarvis(based on this one mission) is that he completely kills the wonder of being on an alien planet.

I'm feel strangely unenthusiastic about this at the moment. It's not that it looks like they is anything wrong with this, it's just that it doesn't look like it's doing anything particularly inspiring either.

Hopefully it ends up being good though.

The hell...that robot is talking way too much.

And what's with the lack of party banter? Why is that Krogan quiet most of the time?

Can I just disable Peebee's comments and that AI's voice? God, they were so annoying. Especially the AI which was really hard to understand half the time with that awful mechanical voice they had given it.

And if any of you guys were among the ones who were worried about having to scan everything every 5 seconds then a word of advice, don't watch this.

I think this is my situation. As I said before I'm not a massive ME fan and have only played the original, however this just isn't sparking any interest. It all looks so safe and bland, especially the typical BioWare jank we've come to expect from their games that just further diminishes any enticing concepts. Again, this may very well just be this level specifically but I hate that nothing interacts with the environment, the AI are just "there" and there's not much else going on.

When I first heard they were going for mocap in this game, I was worried that the customary BioWare animation jank was going to be lost. This video has laid that to rest.

I have a hard time getting excited for this

I mean, this look really good visually and it's sound design is pretty damned good, but it just looks... boring? Maybe this level was not the best one to demonstrate, but yeah no I'm not getting any hype from this video

also ryder looks messed up wth

To the first, it's confirmed that this is supposed to be an introductory mission for some of the mechanics, so there's more handholding than normal.

To the second, it's a loyalty mission. Those were always about Shepard and the relevant squaddie.

This is my exact feeling about it. LOVED 1-3, played the trilogy after 3 was "done" so I missed the initial catastrophe around the ending. But I see this game and I'm like "Nah, I'm good." It looks fine, I'm just not interested.

Agreed on every note. It doesn't look bad. Just doesn't rouse up any feelings from me.

Most anticipated game in existence for me, but man I hate the look of the default femRyder. So goofy looking.

Male Ryder looks way better to me, but I would love it if they had a shepard model you could pick.

I preordered this knowing that I am unexcited, and I still expect it to be somehow worse.

I hate the plastic doll looking character models.

I hate their art design. Peebee looks fucking terrible.

The facial animations are hilariously fucked up. The older games looked competent most of the time- this game is just filled with awkward, janky bad animation. Look at her face at 0:12 (as the youtube comment says). Man, what the fuck.

With Dragon Age 2 the excuse was that they had to make the game in 18 months or something stupid short amount of time. But are people really going to accept this excuse again?

Visually it is vibrant and fine- Nice textures, post processing effects and all that. Combat looks flashy, Mako looks fine.

I just don't understand why the lip synching and facial animations have to be so.. underwhelming. :(

The default male shepard was arguably too good-looking. I freely admit that this is a silly complaint, but since the game is written to work for any user-generated Dogface McHero Shepard I found my immersion occasionally threatened by the fact that I wasn't a galactic sex symbol.

i have this pre ordered on Origin.. if the reviews and impressions are awful or mediocre ill just request a refund. so far everything they have shown is telling me to cancel it though lol

Does anybody remember the Mass Effect 2 preview where we see Nassana Dantius? The dialogue was on point, we got to see a good first impression on new squadmates, and the gameplay improvements were apparent. Then the reveal of Thane assassinating Dantius right in front of us? It was mind-blowing.

This... isn't that. Banter was/is my favorite part of the ME triology. In this video I just can't wait for them to shut up :(

Art direction and in-game graphics are stunning to look at, at least in terms of fidelity. Animations are a bit underwhelming obviously, but otherwise it's a pretty game.

Man, the hyperbole and nitpicking for this game is strong. I wonder if people would get excited for any game if they applied the same level of criticism.

Waypoint, waypoints everywhere.

Jesus, stop holding players hards and let them explore

AAA game design 101. I hope we can at least toggle some of this shit off. I'm not expecting to have any control over the perpetual running commentary though. That's AAA game design 102, just down the hall.

Thats my feeling too I loved ME1,2 and even 3 but I feel so disinterested in this game nothing is grabbing me, Witcher 3 has spoiled me.

You see many of us who love all of the old games who are disappointed. TBF it's been a fair for a long time. This game has been suspected of having a troubled development for years. Earlier on in the process several high profile developers left with no explanation.

That doesn't have to be because the game was a trainwreck but really. If you think about what accomplishments the old games were and how ambitious they were, this game just looks like a reduction in so many areas.:(

Hey new Mass Effect footage today! Let's see if they ever fixed the facial modelling issues of the reveal trailer.

10 seconds later...

Halp! my face muscles are frozen! HALP!

I almost fell asleep watching that. Following way points to convenient consoles that do exactly what you need in bland ancient alien ruins gave me Halo 4 flashbacks. Nothing has been exciting about this game for me yet. I just have it pre-ordered for pretty space graphics on my PC that's honestly it.

Yup this looks amazing. Shame the person playing it is absolutely useless though. I am so in day one on PC. Now to hibernate until the EA Access trial.

Hmmm mission was very much modeled after ME3 style missions which was introductory cutscene, follow by landing, statement of events, then proceed to explore the environment and blast through the enemies.

Fine by me, this was clearly a side mission though as they are treating the loyalty missions similar to ME3 which is not very exciting as the ones in ME2 being the crux of the game, were superior.

I agree to Sam explaining absolutely everything was a bit grating, it's like dude you explained how to scan things once I'm good.

Squad banter was good, similar to ME2 the Squad member whose loyalty mission it is should be talking a great deal and Peebee being the foil to Liara by being talkative and expressive works for me.

The environments were gorgeous and I loved the jetpack, I'm gonna have a lot of fun with jumping around.

The one thing I will complain though is the guy playing gave the video no energy, he played too defensively and took advantage of none of the new mechanics, just stood behind cover and picked off enemies. Which is a fine way to play but the first long playthrough of a major game, put some excitement into it. Hell he didn't even set up combos.

Animations could be a bit better but strangely enough theyre the best in the series so far, but they facial animations could use some work that's no surprise but their not terrible by any means but their no Assassin's Creed or Uncharted. I like scanning so seeing that doesn't really bother me, but I get why others don't like it.

Overall it was okay but doesn't deflate my enthusiasm for the game especially based on those gameplay vids.

Looks damn good. The action figure player character is still baffling though. Not sure how they can put out cinematic trailers with issues like that.
