Total confidence = Black Spot confirmed.

Sessions basically shitcanning the voter ID and police brutality cases tells you all you need to know about his opinions on race.

Hopefully he takes questions and all the news outlets that the White House has attacked so much can come out and really try to hold his feet to the fire.

Too early / soon for resignation, we have to have indignation first, followed by bargaining via recusal, then another shoe needs to drop and he'll resign / get pushed out.

"About the 2016 election"

Franken's question:

Sorry guys, but I think these two things give him an out. There's too much wiggle room there to be able to say every answer was in the context to discussing the election specifically (in more than a passing fashion) and say that ambassador meetings are commonplace consistent with Manchin's defense, etc.

I think they're gonna ride this one out for the next 8-24 hrs and then Sessions will announce a recusal only in the morning. Trump can just throw the whole Lynch/Clinton tarmac double standard back in the Dems faces regarding AG's needing to be beyond reproach and claim this wasn't even as inappropriate since people on the committee meet with ambassadors all the time.

I don't think this one is going to be so easy to get out of. Republicans are already turning on Sessions. I believe Sessions doubled down on it again the second time Franken asked him if he had contact with the Russians at all during the campaign, and then there is his written answer also.

They can argue it was just his responsibility as a member of the Armed Services Committee, but out of 27 or so senators on the committee Sessions is the only one to meet with Russian contacts. Apparently the other senators had avoided meeting with any Russian contacts at all due to increasing tensions between Russia and the US. First Flynn and now Sessions just weeks later. Throw Trump's weird admiration for everything Putin on the pile of smoking garbage... I don't think people are going to let this go so easily.

It's also telling that Trump isn't throwing a tantrum on twitter. Shit is getting interesting.

Since Trump just said Sessions has his full confidence, resigning seems out of the question. At best, he's gonna announce he is recusing himself.

Trump is busy looking himself in the mirror in the new jacket he got on the aircraft carrier. Or he doesn't get reception inside the steel hull.

I am going with neither a recusal nor resignation.

Followed by the statement that he has the confidence of the president to impartially investigate him

And that he blushes a lot.

And hates blacks.

And maybe gays.

Come at me.

Oh, and I'd like to start calling him Minute Sessions.

Yeah, anyone who questions Sessions racism clearly has no basis for understanding how racism presents itself in politics. He's like the definition of a southern strategy Republican.

"I of course did nothing wrong, but just because I am such a stand up gentleman, I will be recusing myself from the Russia investigation.

If any of you whiny little shits so much as mentions the word resignation, I will immediately start throwing everyone that isn't a white male into prison."

I imagine it'll be like this!

As a kid who grew up in the 80s its so weird this year, with democrats and the mainstream media going after anyone who has potential ties to Russia and republicans and conservative talk radio just kinda shrugging and saying "ehh.... the russians aren't our enemy". Its like a total 100% reversal from my childhood when Reagan and the conservatives viewed commies as an existential threat to America and democrats didn't like them but thought we could work with them.

I hope this helps boost the ratings of the TV show The Americans though which debuts next tuesday, its a fantastic portrayal of the 80s America vs. Russia vibe.

Is he falling on that sword like a champ?

Or doubling down.

Seeing the Senate split from the White House would make my weekend.

However I expect a delaying bullshit "I was being a senator not a campaigning dude" nonsense.

There's a possibility enough is enough and Ryan and co have just said, fall on your sword today.

I know what you mean.

It's not even so much the reversal as the feeling that everyone's kinda pretending that the reversal didn't happen and this is the way it's always been.

Would watch this, but I'll just get mad when he tries to blow it all off as normal business. But hey, I'd love to be wrong. Screw it, I'm watching anyway. Wouldn't want to miss something fun.
SOMEONE MAKE THE POLL

Recusing
Double Down
Resigning
Thor 2: The Dark World
Expecting 2, but who could not want 4? The play here is to run out and confuse people ASAP and then pretend nothing happened, I guess? But again, I'd love to be wrong.

No way he resigns this early. My guess he either doubles-down, or recuses himself thinking that will take the heat off. He won't resign until he's sure his only other option is facing trial for perjury.

I'll put my bet on "I have made a deal in exchange for immunity"

Hey, if I bet a wooden nickel I'd get a diamond pony if that one panned out
