Are any of you playing the Switch on the joycon grip? Is it good enough? Or do I need to open my pro controller?

If you have the pro controller then might as well open it and use it. I'm not feeling the joycons. Should have bought a pro controller. Probably go to Frys later to see if they have any.

The framerate in the WiiU version can get really bad... but it almost unbelievable how amazing it looks.

Bleh, I really want to get the game but it looks like Switch handheld mode is the best way to play it and I just don't want to shell out the money for the Switch right now :/

I'm sitting here with my Masters edition unopened and the screen up to buy Zelda digital. I'm not sure if I wanna open the Masters edition or not lol I like unopened rare things!!

Alright the frame rate is becoming an issue on the Wii U version.

The villages when it's raining, jesus christ. Feels like it's sub 15 FPS.

The only real disappointment so far, the game is amazing but damn I wish it was solid 30.

Anyone with the Wii U version want to comment on how this game is running? I don't have a Switch, and I'm strongly considering getting it on Wii U.

EDIT: damn, lol

Downloading the game now, is anyone using the pro ui? How is it?

I've been using it. I feel it adds to the experience, just turn on the setting, play and forget. If by chance you need some direction, you can simply pull up the map by pressing -. It's really fun to get lost in the version of Hyrule. I recommend it.

So I have a question about something someone said related to getting warm clothing...
Someone here said you the old man gives it to you atop the highest peak in the plateau, I think? How is that true? I went to the top of the snowy peak. There was just some opal there. No old man giving me some threads. :(

The fuck... This fuckin game! Im 8 hours in, and i think i have barely scratched the Surface. I dont know the last time when i have felt such a sense of adventure.

This thing is absolutely sublime!

damn, ok, I am resting til rain goes off.

I mean I got some slowdowns, ala Dank Souls, but nothing as bad, I thought the game was doing pretty ok lol.

It does that on wiiu in later areas, it's a massive shame and i'm sure will upset a lot of people.
It's better on switch, especially in handheld mode but it still get's bad in those areas on both systems so your not alone.
Be prepared for worse later on, some areas hit single digits.

Hint:
Read the diary in the woodcutters house.

Solution:
Cook a hot pepper, hyrule bass, and some raw meat for the old man.

Ok so I was wondering: should I have the blue tunic yet? People seemed to be getting pretty early and I'm already piling up other armor.
I just met Impa in Kakariko so not sure if I missed it so far,

So, been playing a lot today

I can excuse the frame drops when there's big scenery and shit but wtf is this?

There are literally almost ALWAYS frame drops during fights, even if you're just fighting 1 dude. It gets even worse when there are 3+ on the screen (which happens OFTEN...). Who the fuck thought this was acceptable? Way to ruin an otherwise awesome game...

Wii U version, by the way.

I have the digital and I had one noticeable issue right after the plateau, but nothing else really.

I fucking love this game.

I played for about two hours last night, and through a mix of being tired as hell and brand new to the game, I got my ass kicked. I've played for about three hours so far today and am way better though. I've mostly just been exploring, prioritizing my curiosity over the story quests (which is how I always play open world games), and it's been really rewarding so far. I was on a total media blackout for this game, so it's been cool to discover how things have been mixed up from past games. Weapons being more disposable, eating to regain health, etc. I beat the
rock boss
in the plateau after I got the
bombs
and it was so fucking funnnn and coooool and I got so excited when I came across that boss in the first place. I'm exploring the snowy area now, just beat the shrine. :)

I decided to go with pro mode pretty much right away. For me, Zelda is all about exploration, and the HUD stuff seemed to cheapen that. So far so good!

So you pretty much have to control the camera the whole game right? Camera doesn't follow well without using right analog stick

It's playable, but loading the game or entering the village will fuck up the frame rate temporarily. I'm used to 4k 60fps, but the game is fun enough that I'm able to live with it.

The biggest disappointment is how they gimped the WiiU version to give it feature parity with the switch (i.e. no gamepad functionality when playing on the TV).

How far are you? I just got to
Kakariko
Village and the frame rate nose dived as soon as I entered.

It drops frequently just riding around the village, even further when it rains and I often get drops just fighting more than 1 enemy.

Man, the only time I will play a game with performance this shit is if it's really special (Dark Souls on console, for example) and this game is amazing so I'll put up with it, but it's quite a large smear on the game imo.

Is that confirmed? You can never see the map on the game pad? That's disappointing.

Where can you see the recipes?

I had a little pop up saying I could choose "Recipes" somewhere but so far I'm hopefully missing the obvious...

I'm actually in the same place. No drops there, maybe just lucky.

Zelda in handheld mode is just GLORIOUS.

I like the NX.

Can't wait for Animal Crossing... Sad I probably won't be able to play it online if they keep their paid multiplayer BS.

Ok, so this is the first time I turn my Wii U on after buying a Samsung KU6300 and IQ is terrible, not only in Zelda but in all other games too, things look the absolutely inverse of smooth, with strong aliasing everywhere. Does anybody have some tips?

Close your eyes halfway and look through your eyelashes.

That really sucks to hear.

I played through PS3 Bayonetta back when it was first out and endured through it (*shudder*), but the performance was quite the blemish on one of my favourite games ever.

Wii U version should be in my mailbox when I get home today.

Sorry to ask this because I'm sure it's been talked about (I don't want to read anything because I'd like to experience it all on my own), but how is the sense of scale in handheld mode?

Just wondering how I am going to play it, and I think I'll want to save it for the TV if playing it as a handheld loses the immersion factor.

Are any of you playing the Switch on the joycon grip? Is it good enough? Or do I need to open my pro controller?

I'm in the same boat as you, bought a Switch and Pro Controller yesterday but I have the Pro Controller still sealed here with me, don't know if it justifies the $70. price just to play in dock mode. I have played with the JoyCon grip and it feels fine, the only annoying part is removing the JoyCons everytime I want to play on the TV. How long does the batteries in the JoyCons last compared to the Pro Controller?

Same here.

Question: Where do I get warmer clothes in the Great Plateau?
Probably been answered but

use peppers + hylian bass to make a meal that gives you cold resistance. Then climb to the top of a tower in the snowy region, Old Man McGucket will be there to give you a warm outfit

ALTERNATIVELY (I'm not sure about this) the Old Man will sleep at a campfire in the woods (you can spot the trail of smoke.) Wake up and he might ask about your cooking. If you show him the pepper/bass food he might give you the clothing there.

I'd seen so much footage of the Plateau from the E3 stuff...

...but while seeing is believing, playing is knowing. It's amazing, I love it so much!

I keep pressing a to dodge instead of x. It's really messing me up. I've gotten used to jump being on x in general but once combat comes along my mindset changes and I naturally keep pressing a to dodge.
