Ok so in the
magnesis trial shrine
there's a chest up there to the left
right before the end of the shrine
, how do I get it? Been trying to do stupid things with
plates and boxes
to no avail.

answer:
use your magnet on the chest

Just played a full 12 hours on my first setting, with few breaks for food and such.

Man, what a wonderful game. As much as I loved Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, and thought Skyward Sword had it's moments, BOTW really highlights those three's flaws to me. This feels like where the series should have gone after the N64 classics.

After BOTW and ALBW, Zelda is back as probably my favorite game series of all time. While Witcher 3 still sits as my favorite of this gen and probable all time GOAT, holy shit it's going to be close. Unless this game manages to fuck up royally.

Also, does anyone else feel a bit overwhelmed by just how much there is to do? I mean this in the most positive way possible. I was thinking of picking up Nier next week but I don't think I'd be able to justify it, haha.

I tried to sneak up on bokoblins and throw an explosive barrel at them. It didn't go off. Two seconds later they throw the barrel back at me and it blows up, killing me instantly.

These are some great first 10 minutes.

I am absolutely not used for these types of controls for a Zelda game. Feels strange.

I mean who else pick up a barrel and immediately dropped it behind their back lol

Don't have my Switch yet but since you die often in this game what happens after that? Are there save points, do you just rematerialise close to where you were before? How does it work, I'm really curious.

this game.. this is the game.

just don't ride a horse through a forest in the rain because holy shit it feels like the N64 in TV mode.

arright time for a shrine.

Are
Korok seeds
a form of collectible? I just found my first one near the pond in the starting area.

Yeah, sort of. They are all accompanied with a sort of mini-puzzle, so you can tell there's one nearby if you either:

- See something very much out of place(i.e. a spiral of rocks, a hole in the ground with a boulder up the hill etc.)

- Hear the rattling.

They can be traded in to expand your inventory.

I'm sure this game is pretty epic and all, unfortunately I can't quite afford a Switch and Zelda right now to try it for myself but after watching gameplay videos of this and Horizon Zero Dawn I'm struggling to understand the massive Metacritic score gap between Horizons 88 and Zeldas 98.

98...I mean really? 2 points off what could be called a perfect game.

Seems a bit high to me and a little fishy but hey, that's the way the cookie has crumbled.

Nothing fishy about it at all. Graphics are not everything. Even the perfect score reviews HZD got, none of them thought it was one of the best games ever. Almost everyone who has played BotW has thought this. BotW looked like a great game, I thought some of the best ever talk was a bit hyperbolic at first, but reviewer after reviewer kept saying it.

You have to play it to understand. The freedom to anything you want to do. Complete tasks in a multitude of ways, everyone who plays this will have a completely different experience. becasue of the complete freedom this game gives you. I have spent 8 hours in the game so far and am now ready to leave the starting area. Why? becasue there is so much to do and it is just plain fun and engaging.

Every corner you turn, every hill you climb there is something that catches your eve and makes you want to check it out. HZD, from all the videos I watched and stuff I read does not have this, or to a much smaller focused degree. HZD is leaps above the traditional open world game, BotW is leaps above HZD for all the same reasons and more. Graphics are not everything.

This game is something special. I just looked at the clock and realized that what felt like an hour and a half has been three.

The Switch didn't need an onslaught of launch titles, BotW is more than enough for the first month. Everything else released is just gravy.

So if somebody gets this horse registry thing better than I do - if I have one registered, do I have to take it to a stable still if I don't want to ride it anymore? Or will it go back to one if I just leave it somewhere? I still don't really understand how it's supposed to work

These little puzzle shrines have me kinda worried after walking around Hyrule field for a while. This game has traditional dungeons too, right?

I think the highlight part and one that the waypoint podcast pointed out is how interactive the NPCs are, a huge number of them have unique designs(though they sometimes get around this with a unusually high number of twins born in this time period of hyrule) and they all have dialogue that can change depending on whats going on at any time, and they have their own schedule with a number of them just moving around the world and traveling, hunting food, enemies, collecting food, making money, etc.

I really love it, I chose the group in xenoblade X thats concentrated on the people because I wanted interaction like this

So I beat the game yesterday, and I was seriously wondering what kind of appeal the game might have once the main story is done. Is there any reason to keep exploring this massive world?

Well, let me tell you... the game is better when you don't have to worry about any objective any more. When you pick a spot, say 'no fast travelling', and just explore really slowly.

Let me tell you the story of my last hour and a half in the game. No story spoilers, obviously, but 'sights and sounds of the game' spoilers, if you're wondering. The southern Faron woods region, to be specific.
So I passed on reading the spoilers for obvious reasons but I wanna ask ya, at 40+ hours, what % of the map would you say you felt you've explored?

I'm honestly worried that the areas I ran past may never get looked at again not because I don't want to look there, I simply will never be able to remember where I explored and where I passed by. It's just so large. I kinda wish the map revealed itself as you went for this reason. Maybe I'll use stamps for this going forward.

So if somebody gets this horse registry thing better than I do - if I have one registered, do I have to take it to a stable still if I don't want to ride it anymore? Or will it go back to one if I just leave it somewhere? I still don't really understand how it's supposed to work
If you take one out somewhere and leave it, then go back to the stable, you can get the horse back. It's not lost.

Where do you redeem
spirit orbs
? I've ran through several shrines and I'd like to turn these into something.

Also, I'm like 10 hours deep and I'm still wearing the clothes from the beginning lol. I feel like I'm doing something wrong but whatever it's cool.

So can you fast travel a horse? Seems like a huge pain having to ride it everywhere.
Yes, from stables. Just select it even if it says taken out.
Hey guys, how do I get the blue outfit link wears on the game cover?
Follow the questline and it is eventually given to you.

Pray at a Hylia statue.

YESS.

No one click this spoiler if you haven't visited the spring at Lanayru Peak. Huge spoilers.

But yes, I just did this last night and it was fucking amazing.

And it was just a side quest.

So I just did this. WTF. This was so so good. Easily the best moment in the game yet. Dare I say magical?

the "fight" was so calm and yet intense because I had not that many arrows with me and didn't figure out I had to use the upwind with my chute. Not to speak of the cold resistance timer going down. I never played shadow of the colossus but from the videos I've seen of it, it had a similar vibe

Btw: does cold resistance stack?

30 minutes and you already found all this wrong? Why did you even buy this game man?

They are just his initial impressions. It's good to have people expressing their issues. It's a nice counterpoint to the "when the camera swept over thr great plateau it took my breath away" type posts.

Ah, okay, that makes sense since I saw it from afar and it looked like a puzzle.

the script is hilarious too

Indeed, you can tell NoA did the script for this game, everyone is so likeable.

On another note I just entered
Henato
village and im inlove with the music, another point is when you can hear the music of a settlement and it gets louder and more clearer the closer you get to it, its phenomenal.

Princess Zelda has the worst voice acting EVER!

Head back to the shrine at the snowcap, did you see a mountain that looks like it spirals all the way to the top, and looks to have a stone ontop of it? ...You may not be able to get it now, but king roam was on it and he compliments you for making it out there in the cold and gives you clothes that protects you against temperature...you may not be able to get it now, but who knows, its basically a reward for exploring the mountains

Oh, cool! Thanks! Edit: Finally got up there and he wasn't there. :(

Finished the "tutorial" plateau which already felt as a game in itself. To think this is just the beginning makes me giddy. Now what to do.. so many choices. Follow the main quest? Test the borders? Go to Hyrule castle? This game is glorious.

BTW there's this door. At the eastern ruins. I haven't been able to find out what it's about. But it's intriguing. :)

only at the beginning plateau area but is there a 'free' way to regenerate health without wasting items? or do you just die on purpose?

Question about the second village Hateno:
when you enter the village there are those demo houses with the sign about the building company. Does this mean I can buy my own house?

About three hours in now, this being my first Zelda game.

I'm really starting to enjoy myself. Gameplay is that perfect mix of varied but not overly complex or overbearing.

I've finished the Great Plateau and have arrived at
Kakariko Village
. I like the game a lot but the framerate is such a bummer, at least on Wii U. Fights aren't smooth at all and it gets ridiculous when there's explosions.

Been playing all night in handheld mode, performance has been a solid 30fps, much better than the Wii U version and Docked mode.

Nintendo might have slightly missed the mark with the home console side of Switch but they have made one hell of an awesome handheld.

Don't worry, I was also that dumb.

Still haven't seen a horse and I just arrived at the first stable on my way to village number 1 after the great plateau.

Am I missing something?

Oh yeah, another pet peeve / dislike - autosaving.

I know you can save manually as well, but autosaves are so obnoxious. Is there any way to disable them?

There is a way. You'll probably find out while exploring. If you're impatient:
You can sleep in the bed of the woodcutter's hut.
