Got my switch 4 hours ago. Been trying to download Zelda ever since. It was almost finished at one point, but an error occurred and I have to download it all over again...

I need help with one of the first "quests" in the game.

I need to find
3 shrines
, and I already found
Oman Au
and
Ja Baij
, but can't find the last one. I see one seemingly where the cold is, but that kills me? What do?

Also, the old man tells me I can use his cauldron to cook, but it seems to only let me "drop" in one ingredient at a time and I am trying to make a multi-ingredient recipe. The only prompt in front of the cauldron is "Sit" or whatever it is to make time go by -- how do I cook multi-ingredient food items?

First part:
I made myself a meal with peppers, which let me survive the cold. If you can get 5 min total, you can run to the shrine.

Second question:
Click hold in the inventory, then press a on all the ingrediants, then back out of menu. Stand next to pot and it'll say "cook."

Played till my gamepad battery gave out. More than a little impressed so far. Obviously I'm still early on but I hope that rest of the game holds up. So far no complaints with the wiiu version... it can chug a bit if you are high up on a hill or tower and look out over a lot of detail. But the actual gameplay portions don't seem to have an issue this far.

I wish the game saved your recipes someplace, and then once you're by a pan you could go 'choose recipe' and do that. I also wish I could throw Bows and Shields at enemies and be able to quickly swap them.

I wish Run was on Y instead of X. Extremely awkward.

I don't envy the person who
makes a Guide for all of the Korok Seeds but I will read it.
I'm also not sure
where to take them. Don't really want to know yet, I assume it'll happen sooner or later. If not, I'll ask then.

Big highlight for me was
Hoofing it up Mt. Hylia with just a Club on fire, lighting all the stray grass I could along the way so my Fire didn't go out. I didn't have anything cooked, either. Getting the Warm Shirt was a nice reward.
I think I also
found a way down from the Plateau up there.

I also got up another Tower that I know I wasn't supposed to be at, because the setup around it was crazy.

Jumping off the back of the
Hateno Ancient Tech Lab
and into the ocean is the funnest thing.

Anyone else think the voice acting is just fine? It's hardly Nintendo's best but it's not nearly as terrible as some say it is. For the record, I've only heard
Zelda, the King and Impa

This thread is making me feel odd for not being irked by the weapon system, actually causes me to mix things up, carry a variety of different tools, send a tool on its merry way by lobbing it explosively into an enemy who then drops their weapon which I snatch and beat them to death with, mmmm satisfying.

Though I will say durability decreasing for things like having to use my fire rod to light fires and hitting switches in shrines, that is kinda wank.

That's crueller than Calamity Ganon.

I've found that most of the voice acting has grown on me, it's pretty much
Impa and Rhoam that I'm iffy on.

You mean cooking blue chu chu will make it red? But how do i throw my food at folks? :)

While holding, Down on the D pad becomes the far command. We MGS3 now.

I got the
bomb rune
(second shrine). Is it worth trying to take out those guardians now? I seem to be doing very little to zero damage to them.

Will try this tomorrow. Now time to sleep, haha.

I love how they encourage you to just try shit out here.

I did everything from your "highlight" but somehow missed the reward, where was it???

Okay, so I'm on the Great Plateu. Any place where I can get Link some clothes to survive the cold up here so I can get to the last shrine?

Not that I know of, but you can cook something with ingredients found in the area that will allow you to resist the cold for a bit

Still in the first hour of the game. Experimenting with the items and messing with Bokoblins. Having so much fun. This is what gaming is really about.

To celebrate the release of this game, I've been working on a Zelda tribute for Zelda fans. Please enjoy! https://youtu.be/aGpgYEMm4tw

Yes but
you get it after climbing to the top of the mountain in the cold area. The game doesn't expect you to tough it out though, there are other ways to boost your resistance.

Oh okay. How do I cook? When I sit by the fire it just asks me how long I want to wait for.

Played for about 5-6 hours now on Wii U. The game itself is fantastic, but in some areas the frame-rate is abysmal. Like down to around 10 frames. Especially in one of the major cities. It really don't take away much of the experience. Though I felt some annoyance from it at the end of my session.

This game would be mind blowing in 60 fps. The scope of the game is massive. And finally I have the Zelda game I have been wanted since I played Wind Waker and saw Hyrule under the sea.

Can anyone confirm for me (very early game)
it is impossible to climb down the Great Plateau before getting the glider? I have been working my way down at different points and have made as much progress as I think is possible. There seems to be a hard line where Link instantly dies after a certain point, regardless of remaining stamina. I keep trying to reach these purple flowers but he just gives up and dies right before I can reach them.

Welp just saw my first physics bug. Link fell up and was flung into the sky after passing the death boundary.

If you want to know how to take them out easily....

Use a shield to parry the shot back at it.

:O

Thats awesome.

Is there a way to know the ability controls before you do them? Seems like a lot of this advanced stuff can be missed completely if you dont accidentally perform them. Unless there are more ability controls that get unlocked later on that are spoilery.

I finished exploring the southern province. There were a few things I couldn't figure out like
the second part of the shrine quest from Kass
, but I'm not entirely sure if I'm even able to do them at this point.

I think I'm going to go follow the story now since I haven't found a village yet.

Throw the ingredients in the pot.

Err...is there a place to find a torch in Hateno? Need one for a quest but of course when I actually need one, they're nowhere to be found.

Just got out of the Great Plateau and took a break. Enjoying the game so far, although in the back of my mind, I wonder if I'd be enjoying the openness more if I hadn't played Xenoblade X. The game obviously opens up a lot from here, so let's see if it keeps re-creating those cool feelings. :)

It's also kinda hitting on my Achilles Heel as a gamer: Trigger buttons. I am so fumbly with working 4 sets of triggers at once. Will get better as I go along, still feels kinda wonky.

Also I keep debating whether I like jump to be the X-button or the B-button. I died a couple times because I couldn't get to the X-button in time, so I kinda want to keep it on the alternate scheme.

Also considering getting rid of the objective nav point now that I'm in Hyrule proper. It told me the general direction I need to go, I kinda want to just figure it out by wandering around and using pins.

First part:
I made myself a meal with peppers, which let me survive the cold. If you can get 5 min total, you can run to the shrine.

My solution, in multiple steps. It also involves cooking, but with a puzzley extra aspect leading towards a better reward.

If you head clockwise a little way in from the edge from the eastern ruins you'll come to a small shack with the old man near it

In his shack there's a diary. Read it.

(The above is enough to breadcrumb you towards a solution. Below goes into more detail)

His diary describes his own favoured recipe for heat resistance, which he's forgotten part of; he says that he has a thermal vest that he'd happily swap in return for the missing part of the recipe

You need to cook his recipe. It has three ingredients; he recalls the peppers and the raw meat, and has forgotten the other one (but he mentions that it's a seafood dish

You'll find peppers in his room

You can get raw meat by hunting in the woods in the north-west

The missing ingredient is fish - possibly specifically bass (it was the one I used). I don't know if there's a better way to catch bass; I went to the lake just beside where I first met the old man and shot arrows at the shapes in the water

Cooking those three ingredients makes you a cold-resistant food, which you could use to survive the cold. But that's not the point of this extra complexity!

After cooking, if you talk to the old man (with an "I made something..." option, he'll ask for the recipe, and on receiving the recipe he'll give you the cold-resistant shirt

I really, really liked that, and it's a great example of how the game sets up multiple solutions to predicaments, and I loved how it required multiple skillsets and gleaning together pieces of information. The downside, though, is that it's pretty much entirely predicated on finding the first location, although I'm wondering if there might be other avenues to different solutions (other than the simplest, of course!)

Some early trials explain them. I think there's one in particular that explains a few combat things but I don't remember where it is.

without an XP system it doesn't seem like I'm progressing as much as something like horizon or Skyrim.

I guess it could feel that way, but as you complete Shrines you get orbs and subsequently exchange them for more hearts or stamina. Exploration is rewarded with more powerful weapons and better armor, also, as you find rarer ingredients, you get better buff for potions and elixirs. I haven't played it myself but after seeing how everyone stars at the Plateau and then how powerful the later weapons are, it clearly shows a grow, not in Link himself, but in the attributes and equipment he had.

Where do you find the Chest in the Great Plateau that you get for buying the Expansion pass?

Cook a meal of Hylian Fish, Raw Meat (boar?) and Spicy Pepper after reading The Old Man's diary, give it to The Old Man and he'll give you a cold resistant tunic.

1st day with the game, 6 hours of play, and I already love this game, it is the most fun open world game I've played although there's still many open world franchises I've never even touched (assassin's creed)

I actually love the weapon degradation system, it keeps you on your toes and forces you to improvise and get out of all kinds of situations in many different ways so battles are not repetitive. Also all weapons are distinctive and fun to use.

I think that's the secret of this game. Making a lot of systems cross between each other, with enough depth to be fun and rewarding while not that deep or convoluted that it becomes a choir.

It's pretty clear that this game has been tested and tested and tested some more, the gameplay is just incredibly polished.

I'm also happy to realize that I actually didn't get as spoiled as I thought I had from watching so many previews and so on (I skipped the reviews though).

Regarding framerate, seriously, I only really felt it at the plateau and later on in another area. Having said that, the game runs better in portable mode but I actually prefer how the image looks on my TV to be honest, colors pop way more.

In any case, really happy so far with the game and the switch!

By the way, mine runs suuuuper silent and cool, even after picking it up from docked mode it doesn't feel even that warm.

Put about 4 - 5 hours into the game on Wii U and I have to say, I think previous reports about the frame rate have been blown way out proportion. It seems very similar to the docked version on Switch. There are even parts in Digital Foundry's Analysis where the Wii U drops frames in exactly the same spots as the Switch version and seems to drop just as many frames as one another.

But with that aside, the game is very good so far. I see myself spending a lot of time on this game. Mass Effect Andromeda may have to wait until I finish this game.
