Okay, so I'm eating humble pie right now. I was seriously underwhelmed by the last few Zeldas (same rigid formula, too samey despite aesthetic differences), but this is a different beast entirely. I'm only at the beginning, but I can already feel the new approach paying dividends - namely, that I'm not bored within an hour! Open world games can be hit-and-miss as you run out of things to do, so I hope this feeling continues as I progress.
In fact, my biggest issue is with the Switch itself. It just doesn't feel comfortable as a handheld. It's obvious there will be a smaller, lighter revision in the future, with better controls. The price we pay for being early adopters, I guess. The sheer awe of seeing this game running on a 6.2 inch screen is overriding any frustration I may feel, however, for the time being.
