A-door-able death.

A few questions:

1) Is there an hour counter somewhere?
2) Does each main area have a place to pray and use orbs?
3) I somehow got stuck in a zoomed in mode with my bow. Is there a way to get out of it?

I played another 8-10 hours today. There's so goddamn much going on in this game that, even having played a pretty substantial amount, I don't think I'm in a good position to evaluate any of its systems. I'm having a lot of fun. I love maneuvering my way to towers and searching for shrines. I like the NPCs and the little details with their behavior and dialogue in different weather conditions. I'm confident that it's one of the most visually attractive game I've ever played. Not on a technical level, of course. But a dozen times this morning I found myself muttering "beautiful" at a sunrise over Dueling Peaks or the sight of a bright hilltop field briefly shadowed by a passing cloud.

I have two complaints so far. First, I wish the shrine music were either (a) more diverse or (b) better, if it's just going to be one song. It's a fine song, mind you, but given the handling of music in BotW, it's got to be by far the most played track in the game. So I expect a little more.

Second, the writing in the cutscenes I've seen so far (maybe six or seven all together) has been bad. I don't play Zelda for the story, so this is not a big deal, but it's been pretty much all telling and no showing as far as characters and their relationships go. I think maybe Nintendo's writers lacked some measure of confidence in themselves or the players with respect to the
memory
scenes. Oh well. It's early yet.

I've been super lazy about clearing out enemy camps, hunting, and foraging lately. I need to start building some solid revenue streams if I'm going to take advantage of all the rupee sinks in this game.

1.) Yes, the weather display on the bottom right, under your shrine sensor, also shows time of day.

Not sure about the other two.

Is the only way to fend off the extreme heat of death mountain from potions and frozen food? I'd love to find something to wear to ward off the heat instead if I can. Thanks! <3

Yeah, I just finished that an hour ago. It's so cool. The diversity in this game is astounding.
There's clothes to fend off the cold.

I can't stop playing this game.

Elemental arrows spoiler :
just discovered the power of Shock Arrows when it's raining, I think I'll love it when it rain now.

Keeping Flint and Wood stacks stocked is so handy.

So annoying when I want to scale a wall and it starts pouring the second I start climbing. Just find some cover, ignite the flint+wood and sit out the rain. Easy peasy and saves so much time.

Out of many things that surprise me in this game, I might be most surprised by the actual act of climbing the towers. Even those constantly get mixed around with and get pretty challenging to get up. Wasn't really expecting that at all.

So here I am, climbing the mountains next to the volcano, naked so I won't catch on fire hopefully, and I just realized, link should be really gasping for air right now

give us your final thought on this game Griss :P

Well, not final as I will pick the game back up again many times in my life, and will probably write out detailed posts when the topic comes up on GAF, but in short:

-My game of the year, possibly game of the generation
-Have not felt this level of joy playing a video game in a long, long time, haven't had a 12 hour play session in years
-An astonishing achievement in interactive game design systems
-Astonishing value and content
-Singlehandedly restored my faith in Nintendo's ability to create modern AAA blockbusters to compete with or exceed the rest of the industry, and my belief that they are willing to do that
-Incredible blending of Zelda traditions with modern open-world game design

BUT...
-Seriously flawed in many respects, including:
-Visuals. The textures just aren't up to scratch, the world is super-low-poly, the IQ is garbage. The game would have been better if it looked better, and that would have required better hardware. For one of the first times ever I was cursing Nintendo's weak hardware, which for 1st party games is almost never the case with Nintendo. The game design and art at work here deserved so much better than what the Wii U or Switch can deliver.
-Performance. Seriously unacceptable frame rate, to the point I missed jumps on multiple occasions because it became so unresponsive. See above regarding the hardware, again.
-And finally, a lack of a memorable story or character. Each 3D Zelda has some story beat or character that became dear to my heart for the rest of my life afterwards. This one has nothing like that. The story just isn't good, or engaging or involving. And that's okay - it's a design decision to allow the game play out in the way that it does. But I did miss that 'Zelda feel' with the story. Because the Zelda feel is present and correct in everything else about the game.
-Dungeons. This will be controversial but the game needed a couple of proper dungeons and less shrines.

I could nitpick forever - I find criticism more interesting than praise. But like I said, it's a masterpiece.

So I discovered that island where
you get stripped of all your stuff and you have to get the 3 balls in the altars.....how the hell do you avoid getting struck by lightning when it starts to storm?

I just finished this one myself. Take off anything that's metal! The Rusty Shield, any metal blades.

That place turned the game into fucking
DayZ
, I swear. Suddenly I'm chasing every crab because my life actually depended on it. Incredible spot.

Thanks for your thought as always, I kinda like the story and character more

I already tried witcher 3 for 3 times
The longest one is 20hrs and I already bored to death and quit
I don't like the character movements
I don't like the combat
I don't like the way they use witcher scense cause I found I just need the mini map to find those red hint and I dont care about the environment
Witcher 3 combat is trash, but I got it on sale so can't complain much.

I went back to the GP because I had the nagging feeling I had missed some stuff even after spending 8 hours there and yup, I found more hiddden stuff HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE
It's just occurred to me over 15 hours into the game, a dozen shrines and countless experiences layer that I didn't get the fire rod from the Plateau. I remember seeing it all the time in footage yet somehow forgot. Guess I'm going back...

I decided to do that sheep Side-quest in Hateno. While I was down at the beach a couple things caught my eye, 3 hours later I'm finally ready to stop exploring and go turn in the side-quest.

I LOVE THIS GAME!

Oops, sorry. Meant total hours played. Is that displayed?

I have a strong feeling the expansion will be dungeon based. At least I hope so.

Also, hook shots need to make a comeback. I didn't realize how much I love these things until BOTW.

I stumbled into two shrines on the far eastern edge, a "moderate" and a "major" combat test

Holy crap

The major combat test kicked my ass really hard but finishing it felt so good! I would suggest beating the much more doable moderate challenge first, and using the weapons you get from that on the major one.

The purpose of a hook shot was to climb.

Although I do miss the strategic combat element of the hookshot

What's with this memories quest? The pictures aren't helpful at all, and I just did a sidequest where a guy gave me a hint regarding one of the picture locations, but I can't find a way to see the hint again.

Weapon question.
Is there any trick to this dude with the shock arrows? The fucking frame rate makes it hard to dodge for flurries and he one shots me otherwise.

What Not Spacegoat said. Also keep in mind you can use the towers in the arena to stop them when they do their spinning lunge attack, that or party. When they're on low health they'll go last resort and charge up a laser. At that point pick your strongest weapon and pray you finish it before it finishes you

How dense are people finding non-obvious secrets? Shrines are obvious, sidequests pretty sraightforward, and I find a fair number of chests littered about, but for example, on the run down from the
research lab to the beach
I didn't notice anything unusual while on that path itself. Am I expecting too much or should I really be combing everywhere?

I have so many god damn korok seeds why did this fucker
have to move to another fucking spot

I NEED THE INVENTORY SLOTS I'M ALWAYS FORCED TO THROW AWAY WEAPONS. Fuck this shit, I'm dropping everything to go find this fucker.

I think the Hylian tunic dyed white looks more the part. The hood does make it, though, especially when you climb up on a building and crouch on the edge. I have some screenshots, but I don't have a SD card for it yet so I can't get them off.

maybe it looks more the part, but since day one that I saw you could wear a hood and that there was armor, I knew I wanted to have the hood plus the chest/boots of soldier armor. The fact I can dye it white is just icing haha.

Similarly I dyed the stealth set all black. Because why wasn't it to begin with.

Koroks are pretty much everywhere.

Your stamina won't replenish when you stop climbing or swimming in the water?

For swimming it doesn't make sense to me because unless you're fighting the current you can IRL float in the water and catch a breather, even if not optimal.

For climbing though it makes perfect sense man, you're literally grabbing on to rocks using every muscle in your body not to fall lol

This is only time in my adult life I have lost hours playing a game and didn't realize it. Last time I looked at the time it was 9:30 and it's almost 1 now. Nintendo got me like I'm 10 again, nice

Woah, ok, I got my first really powerful weapon called the
royal claymore
a whole 52 in stats, found it ontop of the woodland tower when you climb that rocky par
