Can we talk about how awesomely improved upon the gerudo are? really great representation of strong female women of color in a video game.

It's funny; with the Great Plateau, I don't know if it was overexposure or what, but I was not really feeling the game. Maybe I had watched too much E3 coverage.

But from the moment I stepped off and with each new area I come across, my appreciation for this game continues to grow, to the point where I sense this rising up the ranks of my favorite games.

There's such a sense of discovery. I feel like most trips off the beaten path are rewarded. And more than that, I feel like I'm actually going on an adventure - planning my trips, visiting new locations, stocking up on supplies/info in each town - which was a feeling that we were beginning to lose with Zelda. The sense of wonder has returned to the series.

While there are issues with this new template, which I'm sure will be dissected to death by fans in the coming months, I really appreciate getting the chance to play something this content-rich and well thought-out in 2017.

You can respec in this game? HOW?

EDIT: Ok I now Know how to, so I have 8 hearts and two full wheels of stamina.

So can I:
Respec, put my 5 stamina upgrades into hearts, and having 13 hearts, go get mah master sword, and then respec again to how I was? I can right?

I shoul be fine with one stamina wheel to get to the master sword right?

There's an evil statue in Hateno that takes money and "curses" your hearts to give you stamina and vice versa

Go correct your horrible mistakes and turn those five useless hearts into a beautiful concentric ring of precious green stamina.

Also whoops fat fingered my way into this topic running away from spoilers now

Even though I was disappointed with this game, I am probably more excited about Zelda than I've been for over 10 years.

Coming out of TP and SS, I was pretty down. All of the mistakes made with those games just had me thinking "They just don't get it."

With BOTW, there's so much done right here. So many of the mistakes made with those Wii games COMPLETELY eliminated. They totally get it here. Despite some flaws, they GET IT.

If they take this foundation and fix some of the little things with the next Zelda, we could finally be looking at something that rivals the best Zelda games, at least in my mind.

exciting time to be a zelda fan.

In Hateno village you need to find the demon shrine. Talk to the kids and one will lead you to it.

Talk to the goddess statue with horns in Hateno. It will cost a total of 20 rupees to change your upgrade.

If you mean reassign stamina/heart containers, there is an
evil
statue near the entrance to Hateno Village that will do it.

Thanks.

One question, why are hearts useless? XDD

And Also, my above spoilers, can I do that?:

Yes.

Sooo I've done about 15 shrines so far..they've all been really easy. Like maybe one or two I had to actually think about for more than 30 seconds..I'm assuming they spike up pretty fast in complexity/mindfuckness later in the game?

I placed a ton of metallic weapons around its sleeping area then dropped round bombs on him while hiding from up top. Then when it rained (the fight took so long for a weather change to occur lol) it got struck by lightning to deal the final blow. Took longer than expected, but the result is satisfying.

Is it a guaranteed lightning storm on
Eventide
? I was about to return the third orb one time and I'd cut down a tree to make a bridge. I ended up slipping and fell in the water and from there I was struggling to reposition the log in the water. Then it started up and the sparks started forming... RIP Link

Seeing enemies with metallic weapons get struck is fucking godlike though. I was running around with a mop equipped watching enemies get lit up by Zeus. Me and my brother were laughing our assess off.

They do. I'm pretty sue there's one I didn't solve. There's no way they intended someone to do what I did in order to get through it.

Hah, good to hear. My temptation not to cheat by looking up what to do will be tested I'm sure.

I'm loving this game. Scaling a mountan or hill, just to glide down on the other side into the vally to find something neat below is so rewarding.

After the great plateau, I've roughly followed the "story pointer" to the first village. Instead of following the story further though, I've started to explore around, gone north, stumbled on the first "temple" by accident, fought the first boss, beating it only on the second try, after the game took pity on my sorry behind and gave me rather unambiguous hints as to what's effective. While it's true that all the basic puzzle capabilities are granted on the great plateau in the beginning, I was happily surprised that the approach and story surrounding the first temple granted some equipment, that makes life somewhat easier. Afrter the temple, I went to two more towers and are now about to progress the story in the second village.

The one thing that mars the experience considerably for me, are the very notable framerate issues the Wii U has in the villages. It sometimes feels like the game is chucking along below 20 when riding through on a horse.

Should I not be getting heart containers at the shrines? I'm reading here that the way to go is stamina, always?

Get a few hearts just so you don't die to blue bokoblins and up. I'm planning to stop at 6 then pump stamina although the 5 I have now feels like more than enough.

You plan to get 6 extra or a total of 6?

no way. hearts all the way.

I was fine with only one single stamina upgrade.

I was balancing it out, one heart, one stam upgrade.

I have 8 hearts and two full wheels right now.

I've done two of the dungeons and I'm of the mind that outside of a cool gimmick in each of them, they are fairly short and underwhelming compared to the Ocarina and other 3d Zelda ones. Bosses aren't nearly as inspired as some of the ones in other 3d Zeldas imho. You can kind of tell they didn't really expect the dungeons to be the meat of the game, as they've been saying over and over again that the exploration and everything else is the meat. Because the dungeons are like an added bonus.

While this will end up being likely my favorite Zelda, I think it'll be solely on the strength of the game as a whole, with the gameplay and adventure carrying the main story campaign (both story and dungeons).

You're actually sort of at a weird disadvantage in some ways with the stamina upgrades because for some reason when you expend all of your stamina, you have to wait for the full meter to go back up before using any of it again. No idea why they set it up that way but it's screwed me over in a few chases.

Dang, that first Yiga encounter was creepy.

which did you have as the first? Because the second was the creepiest for me. My second one was a guy
giving your exact same backstory of waking up in a time chamber and stares at you with a blank smile
.

Now they've been more funny than anything as you can kind of tale when an NPC is one of them.

Yep. I think I might get the full second wheel and then only focus on hearts. Most climbing you'll have to do if you think of it realistically that there must be an easier way you can get done with wheel and a half with taking breaks on flat terrain. 2 wheels will probably add a bit more as safekeeping.

More annoying than anything else. If they ever ran on the pretence that you could talk your way out of it it'd be one thing but out of the two I've ran into they jumped me regardless.

I mean I kicked the Kakriko guy's teeth in but I've not run into his female cohort after the first time (The one that's talking nonsesne abotu fish)

It was in Hyrule Fields.
I just expected him to be a religious nut after he mentioned the Yiga, but then he told me their credo with that creepy smile.

I don't like it either, but it kinda makes sense:

The longer you run, the longer it takes for you to recover. It happens like that in real life too xD

My first Yiga encounter was
near Dueling Peaks Stable I think. I went up tp a traveller and he asked if I wanted to join before attacking. The second was someone with a grilled salmon craving.

More amusing than anything else.

So I've found out through accidental spoilers that
the Master Sword is in the game (shocking news), please tell me it isn't breakable..you get it and have it for good I'm assuming?

Yeah but the idea is that if you get more stamina you should be better at running. I think an easy fix would be for it to take the same amount of time for all of your stamina to recover regardless of how much you have.

Okay, so what in the ever loving fuck is the point of wind blowing your shit away as soon as you stick it in the fire? This shit is getting damned infuriating, and I know it's intentionally designed because I've tried timing it out to wait on the wind blowing /then/ putting shit in the fire, but it doesn't blow until you put something in there.

I think link must have that 100 yr coma muscle fatigue. How else do you explain someone dying of failure to tread water for longer than 20 seconds? ;)

So apparently Y sorts your inventory. Why was this not mentioned anywhere!? Highest to lowest and in reverse if you push it again.

Works for everything. Weapons, food, items.

It sounds like you guys dont take risks when climbing up mountains, like you have to make sure it has flat surfaces, and suer that is a blessing when it does, but ive climbed mostly flat mountains with maybe a ridge or 2, and ive fallen/slid off those mountains more times than I can count, but with every stamina upgrade, it becomes more and more possible and becomes more and more satisfying, especially when your on that final bit of stamina inhe red, and you take one final jump and you just barely make it over the cliff completely out of energy, it really felt like you climbed a fucking mountain man(or large shroom thing, etc.)

Holy shit this game, it's amazing. I'm really early in the game. Next to H
anteo
village I saw my first section of
sea, with a shrine really far away, unable to get there swimming, that's for sure.
.

Then I remember I have tagged a shrine up in a hill that could get me there. I go my way up to there, with some challenging enemies, I get to the shrine... a combat shrine "medium" something. I kicks my ass. I get out and visualize the shrine in the island.

I estimate that I won't make it, so I take a stamina elixir and head there... without knowing if I will have a way out. Get inside... is the difficult version on that challenge. I don't even try, and get out.

I already know I'm in an area way above my possibilities, but the sense of curiosity beats me. I get in a raft in the small island, heading to another island more far away.

I reach the island and...
It's an amazing challenge island that you have to do without any of your objects, and you have to sacvenge for weapons and food. Really complicated, but I enjoyed trying it, it was so exciting

THIS GAME, THIS GAME!
