So, I've figured out most of the challenges you come across on my own (circle of stones, stones in water, etc). However, I still haven't figure out what to do with circles of lily pads/flowers in water. Is this something that gets revealed later through playing the game? Or are all these challenges just left up to the player to figure out? If it's not explained later, can someone give me a hint as to what to do with the lily pad in water puzzles?
Can't really hint at it well but If you want to know then the full solution involves
either you diving through them or throwing a something through them. Not sure how you differentiate between the two, but if there are rocks nearby then it pretty much means your spending a few minutes trying to get one in the circle
I've had him since I could even find horses. The moment I saw his beautiful bluish green coat and white mane, I had to befriend him. He was a solid colored, wild horse, with four stamina. I named him Horse.
I just tried to activate the central tower so I could see the map and get a memory more easily. Swarming with fucking you-know-what's, but I made it in with Horse unscathed. I scaled the tower easily while avoiding sniper fire with my plentiful stamina, looked out on Hyrule Castle, and glided back down onto Horse, ready to make an escape.
Horse became snagged on a rock, with mere seconds before a laser destroyed us both. We attempted to horsey dance our way to safety, and it seemed as though we would triumph and take cover behind a wall and avoid the blast.
But we were not fast enough.
Horse perished in the explosion, and I clung to life with a mere quarter of a heart. I am legit shook. For some reason I never really thought about horses dying since Horse had taken every bit of damage he'd received like a champ and was the toughest of all the horses I've ever known. I literally stood over his body and wept real tears from my actual eyes (I am not lying) while the bastard who took him from me prepared another beam.
I had to glide to safety on the updraft from the flames caused by the explosion, but as soon as I had a moment to breathe, I just put the console down (playing in handheld mode at the moment) and stared out toward the scene from the melencholy safety of a large tree. The music was soft and sad, and it was sunset.
I immediately came to GAF to recount this tale, so that Horse might be remembered as the brave steed he was. He was faithful, strong, and loved eating apples from my hand as we watched the sunset together. He valiantly shared my adventure with me, and I don't know how soon I'll be able to get a new horse because I am so, completely, utterly devastated right now.
Have a peaceful rest, Horse.
I know I can just load an old save but that feels like cheating.

So. Because I changed my UPS delivery to my work (due to signing issues) they have to process it, which can take a day or two to process. Which means I may not get the game until Wednesday.
I don't want to stay in the thread long - too scared of spoilers - but I just want to go on record that this is the most enjoyable game I've played in years.
I like to call it "Zelda Unchained".
It's so, so nice to play a Zelda game that doesn't feel constrained. Every moment of the game resonates with my best Zelda experiences from the past, but amplified. And the new stuff is so cool! Just yesterday, I got
struck by lightning during a fierce thunderstorm. I belatedly realized it was because I had a big metal sword on my back.
That's hilarious.
This is turning out to be everything I've wanted Zelda to be for 30 years. And, after 3 solid days of playing, I've barely cracked into the game.
I've played a lot of open world games in my time - often looking for that "Zelda magic" on a larger scale - and this is far and away the best one I've played. Sandbox games all too often feel very much "cookie cutter", it comes with the territory to some degree. But this one, aside from a bunch of identical trees and stuff, doesn't. Everything feels so...smooth and natural. Nothing important feels like it's been cloned and scattered at random. I'm at a loss to describe it without taking shots at other games, and that's not right. But I'm so taken in by the world.
My 2 cents. GOAT contender already, and I have a long way to go.
Is it just me or does the Wii U version of the game look incredibly washed out? My TV is calibrated and no matter what I do the game looks very flat at times.
I have so much amber it's ridiculous. If I sold half my amber, I could afford a house. How much amber is needed for crafting/quests? Can I sell this stuff without screwing myself?

Yes. I've noticed this as well... very washed out. My TV is calibrated, and everything else looks great on it (PS4, XBone, PS3... even other WiiU games)

Ore deposits respawn and amber is the most common outside of rock salt and flint. Go nuts. I'm far in the game and still haven't found a use for the gems outside of diamond
If it says "major test of strength" when you enter you'll likely end game weapons for those because on moderate tests I can do it just fine with some mid/high tier weapons.
It didn't say anything, but then again I have zero items you don't get in the starting area at the moment. I was just trying to activate all the towers around the map before I started to do anything else, but thought I'd hop in a shrine near a tower to check it out only to get wrecked basically right away lol
Handheld mode looks amazing bit something is wrong with TV mode got this white haze going on.some areas have it some don't it's annoying just doesn't look as good.
Could be 4/3/4. I'm not at home right now so memory is a bit wonky only saw the screen once, walked the horse to the stable, registered, then started walking again lol.
It's because there aren't really "recipes" in the traditional sense. There are lots of ways to get to the same result, and all you are seeing when you check a meal's recipe is what it took to get there that time. Cooking is more freeform than static recipes in this, just go by type of things you are adding and read about what they do.
You know, I kind of doubt it. I don't know much about speedrunning, but you'd imagine only tactics you can reproduce with certainty are worth it, and a physics engine introduces a lot of randomness to the equation.
Will be cool to see what people come up with, true.

for each weapon? These mofos better be durable as fuck too, though at least they are VERY strong.

It would be pretty fucked if it turned out you needed to save all of them given I've run into several characters who practically demanded I sell gems.
That said, money is so easy to come by in this game its never been a real issue, even considering I buy out Beedle's arrow supply every time I see him and do the same for the other special arrows when I (much less commonly) come across them. The only thing I can even see being a financial drain so far is the
Fairy Fountains (I've found 2 but the second was 5 times the first) and the house.[
But even then, if I wanted to grind for money, I probably could figure out how to do it by just going to higher level areas and demolishing the bigger Moblins with their own weapons.
1. Save everything you find, even if it doesn't appear to have a use. Even if it feels like you are hoarding menial things, like monster parts, keep them until you know for sure what they do. This might be a long wait, but you will be happy to have not sold off something you wish you had found.
2. Don't let your stamina deplete. Let it ALMOST deplete and then let up. It will begin recharging and you'll be able to use more in short bursts. This is especially useful when running because, if you deplete your stamina, you have to wait for it to completely refill to use it again.
3. Don't try to save your weapons. Just use whatever is available to you at all times. Everything breaks and everything is disposable. Do not try to hold on to that "good sword" until you absolutely need it. A little later in the game you might decide to hold on to certain weapon types for certain enemies, but generally, just have at it.
4. When a weapon is almost broken, throw it at an enemy.
5. Be prepared to die. The auto-save is forgiving, but you will find yourself being killed very easily. You will learn quickly that most combat encounters are optional and it may be advantageous to run away. This has always been the case in the Zelda overworld, but it is particularly salient in BotW.
6. If you see a high peak or platform, climb to it. You will find so many things that way. Always seek the highest point.
7. You don't have to complete shrines to make them a fast-travel point, just activate them. That said, you might as well complete them. They are short and productive.
8. Don't dump five ingredients into a cooking pot and make super-powerful healing food when you only have three or four hearts. It is much better to combine two ingredients, or roast single ingredients on a fire, because they heal more efficiently relative to the actual health you have.
These are just some things that popped into my head.
With the chests, three of them spawn on the plateau, but you have to locate them like any others.
you finished the titan quest for Zoras Domain, there is a guy at the main entrance of Zoras Domain repairing stuff. He asks you to bring him 10 Glow Stones.
Managed to beat Eventide Island with no heart or stamina upgrades after about a dozen tries, the sense of triumph was almost palpable. Really taught me the value of cooking and elixirs. Honestly some of the most fun I've had in a game in a long time.
