PS4 Update 4.5 is coming tomorrow, details inside

I'm assuming based on all the conversation, the update is live already?

This is awesome. I've been waiting since November to play Bloodborne when I bought my pro. Will finally be able to dive in after I finish Horizon.

im curious, for the external hd, could you move that same ext hd from ps4A to ps4B and still be able to access those content? given that both ps4 has the same psn login?
or is the formatting process ties the ext hd to that one and only ps4 that formats it?
Nope. Only works on original console.

It won't fix the frame pacing just a heads up

Yeah, i saw some mention of that in the DF video back when they "reviewed" the beta boost mode.

Hopefully it isn't too noticeable. I played the entirety of FF XV on "high" settings, which is supposed to have horrendous frame pacing, and I wasn't too bothered.

Also, more broadly speaking, if it gets as much love on GAF as it does, I have to imagine it isn't overly annoying.

Here's hoping!

I got scared there for a second.

Booting my PS4 (pro) and it locks up before entering the home screen. The only thing to do is unplug it since nothing responds. It reboots, checks storage and when it's on the home screen it prompts me to install and download 4.50.

It reboots and I get an error (su-30627-8). Controller won't connect (not even through USB) and I have to force it to power down by pressing the power button for 15 sec. I Googled the error code and I saw someone else posted the same problem with the 4.50 firmware but no replies.

Rebooted again, downloaded the update, this time it installed and I'm back online with the PS4 Pro. I hope all of your installs will go smoother ;)

It's a single unified notifications screen now. That would work actually but because of the lack of a clear notifications option, it's too messy.

But you can hit Options - Notification Settings and uncheck any notifications you don't want to see. It's as customizable as you want it to be.

Also if you have a bunch of "new" notifications, go to that screen, hit Options - Notification Settings" and then just go back and all the "new" ones are cleared and won't show up on the main dash anymore.

Anyone know if this update has fixed the known rest mode issue Stardew Valley had on the ps4 pro? Where the pro would not come out of rest mode if you put it into rest immediately after playing Stardew.

I was on beta 2 of 4.5 and still encountered this issue. Super annoying. I'll report if it's still in the final release.

Then you're safe lol FFXV on High mode is, as you say, horrible with framepacing, Bloodborne (and Dark Souls 3) are bad but not that bad.

During the beta, many people brought up that the Notifications menu was a mess. It seems like they haven't listened to the feedback, so why even pretend to?

This is, without a doubt, the most bone-headed and backwards decision I've seen from Sony in years.

I prefer the new streamlined notification section. Annoyed me having to go through all different subsections, now I'm done after a single glance. Downloads are always on top which is great as well.

SSD upgrade is very noticeable!

Even though it's a 250GB. I can just move games I'm playing off my external.

HZD loads noticeably faster. AC:Unity is stupidly fast at loading. The PS4 dashboard is very snappy no hang ups.

Worthy upgrade. Especially because you don't need to buy a 2TB SSD to store all your games.

Wait, are you using a 250GB SSD internally or via USB ?

Is the difference that big even via USB ?

If anybody is thinking about getting an external SSD, I can recommend Samsung T3. Loading times on some games I have tested are vastly improved compared to internal 2TB Firecuda SSHD.

Horizon: Zero Dawn
Menu to game: 60s -> 25s
Fast travel: 24s -> 10s

Grand Theft Auto V:
Loading screen to game: 1min 10s -> 48s

Sherlock Holmes: Devil's Daughter:
Menu to game: 30s -> 18s

Do you have to format an external to use it?
Yes.

Wait, after installing 4.50, the screen flashed really fast with something saying rebuilding the database...

WTF, IS THIS NORMAL?

Yes, don't freak out. Your Ps4's fine :p
