i have no idea what im doing

Now that's some quality cheese right there

Pretty disappointed by how simple the dungeons are. Takes 45 minutes max for me including the boss (if I'm properly prepared) even if I go for all the chests. There's usually only one or two interesting puzzles too. AND there's only 4... Id imagine this game is gonna have a big backlash by people who want substantial dungeons. That being said, I'm getting my puzzling fill from the shrines (namely the trials, the mazes and lost woods stuff is pretty cool.) But I really miss having long, elaborate dungeons with a bunch of interesting puzzles.

I miss them but also dont. Its weird. I like having puzzles in small bursts because if its too long I get frustrated. But i also miss the spectacle of the dungeons as well.

Maybe the best solution would be like 7-8 BoTW sized dungeons.

I kind of miss the dungeons as well, mainly for the atmosphere, but let's be real. The puzzles in most of them weren't interesting (there are certainly some exceptions). The shrine puzzles are probably the best we've ever seen in a Zelda game.

But I think the dungeons in this game are epic

It's not just about the complexity of a puzzle, though. There's a different feeling to exploring an isolated and enclosed space and trying to piece by piece progress through it versus a single room with a single puzzle in it.

There's definitely a different feeling, which is why I said I miss them for their atmosphere. But the poster I replied to said they were full of interesting puzzles and that's really not true at all. Zelda's puzzles have honestly never been that great. But dungeons are very enjoyable as a whole and I hope they return in some fashion in the future.

One of the shrines requires those leafs to get through but the one provided broke and it seems you can't restart to get a new one? That's really dumb.

So where can I tell how long I've played the game for?

30 shrines in, 2 dungeons completed. I'd guess 25 hours or 30 hours but is there a clock?

You are all making me insanely jealous I can't find a Switch right now but i'm genuinely enjoying reading everyones impressions and stories.

Also thank you for spoiler tagging most things it makes much easier to go through these threads.

I've had my korok leaf since the start of the game, I don't know how people are breaking theirs. But you can just cut down a tree to find one, they're all over the place.

They're definitely good, but I think they're pretty in line with traditional Zelda puzzles, but I don't agree with reductionism with respect to those, so all good for me.

What they are for me is little nuggets of gold. Find them, get your Zelda fix or get it looking for them as the case may be.

Don't really replace dungeons though and the dungeons here are few, good but not great, short, and the bosses are pretty non-iconic and uninteresting to me. Definitely the weak link in the chain by far. And they're good.

...

115 shrines now! My flagging hopes of finding the last few myself rise a bit :p

Master Sword get! Now I can actually focus on doing the dungeons instead of just bee-lining it to every shrine I see and praying that it's not a Major Test of Strength.

Also, can anyone point me in the direction towards the Climbing Gear shirt? I have the bandanna and the shorts, and I wouldn't mind getting the full set now that I have two Great Fairies unlocked.

Having a lot of trouble tonight. Can't figure out flurry rush timing against a red Lynel with a huge club, can't figure out the Washa's bluff puzzle. I think I could maybe coast from the top of the Gerudo summit to the Rito playing this accordion song and maybe that's got something to do with it. But I don't have enough stamina.

edit
Giving up for the night. Waited 3 in game days and nights in the hope it might play out like the puzzle in the Gerudo highlands. Chopped down those weird flat top trees thinking it might have something to do with the available shadows. No luck. Falling asleep here waiting. Does the Rito above give a clue to the solution?

In the shrine I'm having to wack at some balloons and that's what's causing it to break. Still think it's silly they don't just give you another one when you restart the dungeon.

So, have you been enjoying the game overall? I remember you were worried this game wouldn't scratch the Zelda itch for you.

I know I'm just rambling at this point but I fucking hate the constant rain!

I'm trying to do the second blue flame quest and iut's always raining arghhhhh

I spoke to an NPC at a stable that mentioned that place so I spent a good amount of time looking around for it.
Whats strange is i thought i had explored most of Hyrule with the towers and was just looking for a random shrine.my mind is blown :O

Because i love the towns in this game :)

Might be minor but I love how there's no load time when going into buildings (well there might be a small one but they mask it well).

I keep going outside buildings to fast travel because of Skyrim.

Balloons? lolwtf?

But yeah that is a problem that you can break weapons you need to solve a puzzle. At least leaves are easy to get, unlike sledgehammers...

Everyone knows the three icons in the bottom right are a weather forecast, right? I only realized that recently and felt incredibly stupid.

So I just made my way through
the Forgotten Temple and killed a bunch of Guardians with the Master Sword and got a bunch of parts.

Where do I go to get Ancient Armour/Arrows with them?

So i have a diamond and a few valuables haven't made it to
kokoriko
.

Can I sell some of it or what shouldn'tI sell

I used green trees, ancient battlefield to piece together it was that area or Hyrule field probably, especially with Impa's half day ride comment. Akalla also has fall trees. Then the mountains looked like the ones behind Hateno gate. I went out and matched them up with a photo of the picture. I looked at bodies of water and ruin landmarks. Took a bit and I doubted my initial guess/did other things for a time, but it worked for me.

Actually it was the last picture memory not
the one that Impa gives you after, I didn't realize that was a thing when I had posted
. That one I got OK after some searching.

I fucking hated that quest. I just did it ten minutes ago, started by clearing out at least 15 Black Moblins and a Guardian, and literally as soon as I got to the flame source it started raining. So I managed to make a campfire under a rock and waited until it passed, and in the middle of waiting a Blood Moon cutscene pops and respawns all of the enemies I painstakingly killed.

Fucking load of crap.

I jumped off Epona to fight some Moblins on horseback. One of them rode past Epona while circling me and Epona neighed and knocked him off his horse.

Thanks, Epona! Here's a carrot.

It's behind a Major Test of Strength shrine.

There's 2 sledgehammers outside the house you can buy in Hateno.

Beat my first dungeon, Ruta.

So that was pretty cool. It wasn't long nor hard but there were some interesting ideas on display. The whole segment felt like shadow of the collosus mixed with Zelda. I liked how part of the puzzle involved moving the trunk, and there was some climbing and gliding in there too. It reminded me of the ice dungeon from TP for its sheer uniqueness among traditional Zelda dungeons.

It's a shame it was short and small, but I liked it a lot.

Where is it? I've discovered a couple and noped out because I didn't have the weapons and food to burn through, but if I knew where it was ahead of time I think I could manage.

Just playing in table top mode but you have to get right up close because of the screen size. I'm guessing not many people like this?

I've been doing it a little bit to play with the split joy con setup on the Switch screen

playing about 2 feet away from the screen and it's been fine for me

Without spoilers, the cutscenes and story in this game are pretty good. For a while I was worried that the story was just going to be a rehash, and of course it has a lot of that, but the characters are surprisingly good and there are some new twists on Zelda tradition even within the narrative. Really impressed, after over 20 hours of gameplay but only now getting into the story.

Question about some post Divine Beast stuff

Can the gear you get as a reward break? There's that Zora that says he can repair the trident, will he repair the other gear as well?

So, have you been enjoying the game overall? I remember you were worried this game wouldn't scratch the Zelda itch for you.
Yes. I have been completely consumed by it. Shrines are the carrot that pushes me to explore and get that bite-sized Zelda action, but I also have come to enjoy the overworld experience a lot. It is probably my favorite open world at least since Morrowind. Moving around is a lot of fun. The terrain is a lot of fun. There are some really nice action set pieces and "outdoors shrines."

I probably reached my peak a day or so ago as I finished the last dungeon, found the last towers, did Hyrule castle, finally got full stamina, and found lots of shrines at a fast clip. Things are slower now. More retreading scouting for shrines, less new world. Koroks are a nice way to make it so you're always finding something but, yeah, I'm on the downward slope atm.

Finding the green tunic (assuming it exists), a satisfying Ganon fight are things that'd end it on a high note.

I do think that a future, hypothetical open world Zelda could do with a correction towards classic 3D Zelda. Dungeons with a greater presence, sense of place, and staying power are something to bring back. I'd love it if they could be like the child of Hyrule castle and the shrines, but that's a challenge; there's a reason why shrines/dungeons are so discrete from overworld gameplay in BotW.

I also think BotW doesn't hit its overworld high points enough. There aren't enough intriguing setpieces like raining Zora's river, the best "outdoor shrines," the best towers, Hyrule castle. I think the game would benefit from more strongholds and traditional Zelda caves. (And more enemy variety). Again, the elephant in the room is balancing that with BotWs climbing and gliding mechanics (and in the case of enemy variety, it's weapon systems and durability).

I also missed gaining wholly new powers. Swimming up waterfalls was a great moment. So is being able to climb higher at a higher level. The first is better to me though, and it is way too rare in the game I think. Again, makes sense with the general design of the game but I think going forward they should work towards classic Zelda again.

Idk, going up Zora's river (I did east and then west, so Zora first for me) is when the game first clicked for me fully. Before that I was very much "this is nice but shrine to overworld is way too low." Then I did that and I was in love with turning the journey up that river into this epic journey up a valley with powerful enemies and constant rain.

As I posted in the last OT, doing Hyrule castle was the most engaged I've been with a game in a while.

So my mind is not completely changed on the direction of the series as a whole, but BotW shrines are great, there's some really cool stuff with the overworld design. I just think that design needs some refinement towards a aLttP or OoT of the 3D openworld Zelda.

Only the ones you get as story rewards can be repaired.

Hmm so
I can repair the Urbosa's sword and shield as well? Good. It's weird that you can throw/drop them though, unlike the Master Sword. What happens if you leave them on the ground and leave the area?

Lol

I just got the double meaning behind the title of this OT - 98 referring to the current Metacritic score and also the year that Ocarina Of Time released.

Very well done and extremely classy :)
