I dont think bokoblins will do much damage to your horse, but I'd stay away from Lynels and Guardians unless you're very confident in your horseriding.

I've tried my hand at battling a Guardian on horseback once. Got hit with a laser but my fucking horse took it look a champ. Just stood there, while on fire. Meanwhile Link was writhing in his death throes.

You really need to give more context before spoiling end-game content.

More context on that spoiler dude :/

I thought me bolding the person's response would be enough context. I'll change it.

It means that I can respect a 7/10 score for BotW if you're really consistent about scoring games like that. But if you score Fallout 4 a 9.5/10, Skyrim a 10/10, GTA IV an 8/10.. and then give BotW a 7, then your opinion turns into a joke to me. That's like giving Troy a 10/10 and Fellowship of the Ring a 7/10. It's an opinion that a person can have, but it makes that person completely lose all credibility in terms of being able to judge the quality of an entry into the medium.

I adore the game, but if you can't see why the divisive systems in this game affected his enjoyment of it, or at least respect that, then you might be the one with the issues.

15+ hours in, and I still haven't touch any of the major dungeons.

Spent most of my spirit orbs on stamina (2 bars now), mainly because I really like climbing/exploring to higher places a lot in this game. Still only have 4 hearts right now (I can just eat food to get a bunch of temporary ones if needed). Felt pretty satisfied when I
got to the top of the waterfall at Calora Lake where Qukah Nata shrine was despite raining a lot in certain areas.

Love the game but it's incomprehensible to me how bad some of the voice acting is. Zelda is soo bad.

It's not like Nintendo can't do better. Both xbcx and xbc were totally fine.

The comments section on Jim's site for his BotW review is hilarious. Was it Jim who set the "Drink bleach you fat cunt" comment to be featured at the very top?

Jim doesn't make money off of clicks only off patreon and his non jimquisition youtube videos.

Patreon's 90% personality-based (if you're not doing porn, that is). Jim will profit a lot more from getting the "Zelda reviews are fake news" crowd to give him a few dollars a month than he would by being just another voice in the crowd. It may not be strictly why he gave the game that score but in my eyes it was definitely a reason. That's my opinion, and we're all entitled to one.

Just add that it's end game spoiler.

And yeah horses are tanks. Mine took a full lightning strike like a boss and he just galloped it off afterwards. I had a quarter heart left.

It seems like it's one of the only ones that isn't being sold anymore. Which is BS since they put Epona into it.

Ughhh that sucks. No chance they get restocked any time soon? I wish I knew someone who had one so I could just use it to unlock what I want and then give it back.

Not that big of a spolierphobe, but give some context.

If you want to beat the game you should learn how to do horseback

Does that offset the amount of people who think Jim has no objectivity and stop supporting him?

Not in my opinion. My experience reflects his.

That the amiibo content equals DLC for this game? That the Shieka slate is based on the Switch? That you need double stamina wheels to be able to play the game? That you need to complete 120 shrines to beat the game? That you must complete a shrine directly when you see it, otherwise you'll not remember where it was?

That's your experience?

And don't you find it questionable that he mentions the scores of other reviews in his own review? Or mentioning the issues with breaking weapons, while not mention that you can farm weapons?

IMO, the fact that he mentions that he doesn't understand the 10/10 for the game seems to support that.

You do realise he was doing these kind of reviews(ie not holding any punches which some people perceive as click-bait) before he was even independently reviewing for his own site?

He's been known for it far longer than that, as far back as his work on the Destructoid.

It's who he is. If you don't like it just stop talking about it/giving him attention.

If you're giving money to him you don't really care about any of that. The people giving want Jim to be Jim.

This lol.

The shillings are hilarious and they make me wonder if people defending him actually played the game or at least read what he wrote. The point here isn't the score, but all the bullshit he made up to justify it.

That's my take. Actually the worst offender imo was Watch Dogs 2.

Exactly, he's known for it, so he has to keep the personality up. That's my opinion of him, I don't find critics to be infallible just because they have opinions as well.

Metacritic score for BOTW is now 97 with Jim Sterling's & Slant Magazine's review. Who knew two people had the power to change it. I'm slightly depressed about it TBH. I knew Jim would be the skeptical one, Escapist Zero Punctuation is probably next to make the next low score. Still regardless, I guess his review on the game is well-explained.

It's not the low scores I worried about TBH, it's how others will react to a one point decrease and how they'll use it to diss Zelda. :/

1) You shouldn't care about metacritic score. Think about it this way: in the best case scenario, a hack like Jim Sterling still influences it even when you happen to agree with him. You can't have it both ways. Either you acknowledge some greater truth by popularity through the aggregation of people with wide-ranging levels of skill, credibility, and understanding, or you believe it dilutes the most significant perspectives with lesser ones.

2) A game like Zelda not getting some shit for its weapon durability and stamina system (as per Sterling's complaints), from the pool of gamers that make up game journos no less, was already highly unrealistic; it's very surprising it has happened at all, although maybe that's already why it wasn't sitting at 99 to begin with. These are great mechanics that elevate the game by introducing weight to player action and avenues of meaning to exploration. However, the very notion that depth is a good thing can't be made a universal, precisely because it will put off those who can't handle it (the anxiety or frustration of being impeded). There are very few true universals. I myself would likely dock points for the complete lack of tension and overall low difficulty once you understand that, but if you were to take away how frequent the game saves (or impose some sort of punishment for failure), then others would be alienated.

In short, there's no such thing as a perfect game, because perfect means something different for many people - who themselves are certainly varying degrees of imperfect.

If that's what you think.

I don't think he does do it just for clicks, personally. Plenty of times he's done reviews which go "with the grain" instead of against it.

I can fast travel to shrines but I dont see anything I can get too outide of Karon or whatever it is called. Is there a way to scroll the world map?

Left to scroll, right to zoom in and out. Being able to fast travel anywhere does change how you play the game though so don't rely on it tbh.

I wish they let the game roll Sunlight or clouds rather than snowstorm in Hebra a little more often. The few times it happens good lord the area looks nice.

After 20-30 hours of playing I just used a boomerang for the first time as a throwing weapon. Why have I been using them as a regular melee weapon up to now? The throwing and the nailing of the catch prompt is so goooood. Stocking up on boomerangs from now on!

We still talking about Jim Sterling's review?

God knows I love the man, but he has shite taste in games and I don't put much stock into his reviews for that reason. I mean, the man loves Musuos, didn't like Ori and the Blind Forest, thinks Quantum Break is as good as Uncharted 4 and liked, or at least defended, Mass Effect 3's ending.

Those are some... opinions I can't quite reconcile with my own viewpoint. We're 100 miles apart.

So the bird bard Kass is everyone's new favourite character right? Love his riddles and running into him after a long treck in the wilderness.

Anyone know a good place to farm Deer/animals for Raw Meat?

Looking to gather as much as possible to cook and sell in large quantities.

He's the best. I think I've found him everywhere based on a journal I found. I wonder if you can actually finish his story.

Did they remove the horse AI they touted? The one that misses all the trees and stuff? Because my horse keeps running into things and is a royal pain to control.

Let's the horse run, give it suggestions with left and right. Especially on trails the horse pathfinding is great

Since his last Jimquisition video I got the sensation he would give Zelda a mediocre to bad score, I don't know why he almost choose a title with "switch" in it outside of a way of baiting rabid Nintendo fans, and that was after the video about pirating Nintendo games.
I don't actually believe he gave that score on purpose. But I think his realationship with Nintendo is maybe hurting his ability to enjoy playing its games.

Jim giving Zelda a 7? Fine, it's the dudes opinion and I respect that.

Jim giving Zelda a 7 while giving Horizon a 9.5? Lmao. Horizon is a excellent game but separating it from Zelda by even 2.5 points is absurd

I really don't understand people having issues with durability system. I just looted 5 fire elemental weapons by just exploring the Gordon area and I'm like "I don't need them, what a I going to do with them, lol" (I Don't need fire weapons in fire area and I already cleared Zora) this game is just too generous with weapons lol

Jim disappoint me.

da fuq is this shit? Your map totally differentiates ones you've completed and haven't. If you don't even want to bother going to it to activate the warp you just slap a marker on it.

I never quite understood this point. Yeah, he might not make money off clicks but he still benefits from people visiting his website, since he depends on people knowing about him.
Getting your name out >>> click money

This is going to benefit him heavily in the long run. Even if it's pissed people off, and even if he doesn't make any money off of the clicks.

Jim is a smart dude.

I can fast travel to shrines but I dont see anything I can get too outide of Karon or whatever it is called. Is there a way to scroll the world map?

You need to register new things on the Shieka slate. Visit new map towers to get more parts of the map. Register more shrines to get more teleport points.

He's not the guy who is going to intentionally score a game to get people to check out his site. He's very fixated on maintaining personal integrity, which was basically the entire reason he chose to go solo and use Patreon instead of ads.

He's just got peculiar tastes and strong opinions, and he's going to run counter to the majority a lot of the time.
