The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT2| It's 98 All Over Again

I assume you need all 3 pieces of the fireproof armor in Goron City to access that north mine part? I could only afford the chest because I just bought the Rito armor for that dungeon and I'm low on Rupees.

What's quick ways to get Rupees? The helmet alone is 2,000. =/

If this game did the open world aspect but with a variety of traditional dungeons, bosses, enemies, etc it'd probably be my favorite ever. It's what I thought the game would be. But a lot of my favorite Zelda aspects I think were lost in the developers trying to compete with other open world games. Metal Gear also fell prey to this.

Don't try to compete with Witcher or GTA. Compete with ZELDA. Compete with Metal Gear. Don't try and outdo something that is totally unrelated. This is the problem I think Breath of the Wild ran into and it's just not necessary at all.

I'll be happy if they try to work on top of BotW for at least one or two installments but if at some point they have an open world only half the size of BotW but with 8 or 9 traditional dungeons, that'd be lit.

Endgame spoilers
So I liked the calamity ganon fight and liked the idea of the dark beast fight but felt they didn't nail the landing because ganon barely does anything in the last form. Despite liking the calamity ganon fight I don't feel like it lived up to the legend of calamity ganon. The way he was spoken of throughout the game I just expected something more from the actual fight. I must say I really enjoyed exploring hyrule castle. It might be my favorite area and it makes me wish there were more areas like it in the game. There's so many ways to tackle the castle and so much there to find if you put in the work.

I honestly don't know how they screwed up the final boss so badly..
His second form can't even hit you. What were they thinking?

I'm not sure what you're talking about here

Spent an hour snowball bowling. Is this really the most efficient way to make money in the game? I guess it doesn't really matter anymore since I can pay off for the house, the last great fairy, the ancient armor and the flamebreaker armor

Yeah like it's almost there. If they had traditional type dungeons worked organically into the huge world with more enemies, puzzles , mini bosses and a unique boss per dungeon we would be SO TALKING.

I'm not sure what you're talking about here

That the size of the world in this game feels needlessly large. I don't think it needed to be at all. Big? Sure make it big. If they cut the size of this game down 50% it would still feel big.

You only need 2.

I'm immature and found this hilarious.

Goddamn Akkala Tower
is there no way to kill the malice? I already shot one eye.

Just keep looking around, when you figure it out you're going to feel immensely satisfied.

Yeah from what I can tell there is no better money maker in the game, other than selling your minerals.

No no no no
This is the reason developer should not hear to the fan

Mine for minerals and sell them. Not all, but if you have some to spare you can sell a few for a quick buck.

Or cook food and sell those. Cook 5 apples and sell them for 50 rupees, for example.

Why the helmet costs 2000 rupees when all other parts sell for 700 is pretty weird lol.

Tip: There's this guy in the mines just before Goron City that trades a fireproof armor for 10 fireproof lizards that just roam around the area. That's 700 rupees worth of savings.

Dungeons. He's talking about dungeons. 99% of complaints would go away if this game had traditional dungeons. For some Zelda fans, it's a requirement.

It's not a requirement for me, but I get it.

It's kind of that but not entirely. I liked the dungeon concept here but it was still lacking in some ways. I feel like if all the work that went into the world and the 100+ shrines went into more variety in a number of ways that it would be a lot better.

I'm all for new ideas. But I didn't think these were superior. Sorry for having a contrariain opinion.

Could not disagree more.

They can't please everyone and they shouldn't try to either.

I would have been fine with some traditional dungeons, but not at the expense of some of the content in the game now. For me personally, they struck a good balance by having the shrines (which can certainly be improved going forward, to be fair). But I do think it'd be cool to see some traditional dungeons in the next game. However, I don't need them to return. But again, I understand why that's important for some.

If a classic dungeon was dlc I'd shit bricks

Lets pool together our spirit orbs for Hylia so this happens

Skyward still by far has my favorite story, dungeons, bosses, etc. Those are huge things for me that BOTW absolutely pale in. It does other things better but I'm one of those folk that doesn't consider the world size and such that major a selling point. I prefer the tighter environmental design in Skyward a lot more than just a big world. Luckily the world here is handled much better than most open world games, but I can't help but feel it's way too big and lacking that Nintendo polish in terms of pacing and other things.

Absolutely. I loved the dungeons, story, bosses etc. on SS more but the thing that shot BoTW above is how well Nintendo pulled off "open air" and allowed me to have my own story. I still control Link and it is a story of redemption, and we all go through some of the same milestones. But all those moments in between are unique to each player. I love how BOTW allows me to chain together small events into a huge adventure. A story can start with something mundane and then it would randomly snowball into this huge, amazing sequence of events.

I didnt think that would mean so much to me but here I am over 60 hours of gameplay later still feeling the magic. The fact that it happens so frequently in this game is why I feel like it's the best Zelda, dethroning SS which I absolutely love to death.

The world is massive and if the trade off was between more dungeons and less world, I'd take the former. But in an ideal world, I want this massive size AND my dungeons. The western regions are more mountainous and dont have as many villages so they seem emptier but they are still fun to explore and go through. Getting lost feels fun in this game.

Just beat my 2nd Divine Beast Vah Rudania and watched the cutscene at the end of the fight.

I am not crying.

I cried a bit

I kind of love a lot this area even if I miss some dodongos here and there. Also the shrines in Death Mountain are incredible! The one called Blue Flame in particular is challenging and filled with secret treasures.

So I'd just like a yes or no answer to this, is there and upgrade to the paraglider or flying mechanic? Is this a great beast reward I kinda see it coming from the Rito... please spoiler tag the answer for others who don't wanna know.

Like Just Cause it's gonna be hard to play open word games without this method of transport in future. After playing JC and going back to witcher 3 it's hard not being able to float around.

And ahhh GAF I don't play games often but there's nothing like sitting and playing and posting on GAF every hour or so.

However I will say that as my personal preference, I do hope the main quest in the next game has a linear progression for dungeons. I want to be able to go in and out of them when I want like in this game but I'd love it if there was a guiding hand for the main quest. I want more core story!

I'm all for new ideas. But I didn't think these were superior. Sorry for having a contrariain opinion.

The beauty of Zelda is they keep trying something new
Motion control, touch screen control, 2d, 3D
Linear, open world
They will not stop trying new idea
I know a lot of Zelda fun don't like a lot of ideas above
But thats also the beauty of the series

Are there certain minerals that are used just for selling? I don't want to sell something I might need later on for another thing.

To answer your initial question:

Kind of. You'll probably be happy with it.

Yeah, if story is a big reason why you like Zelda, I can totally see why this game would disappoint in that department. For me, I have never cared about the story in this series, so I actually adore their narrative approach here.

Dude I totally agree! I love this game TO BITS. It's fucking phenomenal. I'm just trying to discuss points that I don't totally love and why. I love Skyward Sword and not everyone does. I'm not trying to have a contrarian opinion, I think it's amazing and probably top tier Zelda but I have a variety of thoughts and how I think a Zelda LIKE this could be even better.

All minerals have certain uses later, that's why don't sell all. Just sell a few that gives you enough cash for your needs. The best way is to mark the map with good mining spots or where Stone Talus resides so you can regularly mine for minerals when you need those stones later.

I don't entirely disagree with this, I adore the boldness of the game and consider it an amazing step for the series, but it definitely could be improved upon in the future and that excites me. It certainly isn't flawless, I could come up with 20-30 things I bet most would enjoy it they tweaked or added within a few minutes.

Dungeon: I'm not sure how people were hating on the
Gerudo dungeon (Divine Beast Vah Naboris)
. Probably my favorite of the game so far. Really
clever use of that center room
, especially once the boss fight started. Maybe I misinterpreted some complaints.

Do those big Stone dudes come back? Easy to kill those.

Good ideas, thanks for the help.

No, just two peices, or a combo of a piece and elixir. If you go to the menu with the armour equipped, you can see that fire/heat/ice resistance is made up of two bars.

You also missed a free peice of armour, unfortunately, since you already bought the chest piece

As some one who loves this game enough to start to heavily consider it being one of my favorite games of all time, I will say that the absolute BIGGEST criticism I have of this game is the lack of replayability it seems to have. While I can see myself easily dropping another 100 hours just screwing around and trying to 100% the game, I don't really think the game will have legs past that, unlike other zeldas which I frequently go back to and replay.

I think the reason for that is that there isn't a way to set up a second save file easily (other than backing up save data off the console). I would love to have a second save file to be able to go through the game again as I would love to try my hand at some speed runs or challenge runs like main quest only, or something like that which would give the game a lot of replayability for me.

Then again I haven't checked but the game really looks like it's just one main file, anyone know other wise?

I really, really wish the map kept the lines diving zones after you activated the towers. I eventually get used to it, but it'd make the early going in a new part of the map a lot easier if you could see clear lines between where you have and haven't been.

Also: The more I play BotW, the more I hope the follow up is "Wind Waker 2."

Just a little arrow and world interaction spoiler but I found it fun to find out so I'll tag it myself.

Just discovered bomb arrows don't work in the rain. Awesome!

Oh was that what I was supposed to do?

I climbed some awkward debris and glided above the black sludge

That's what I did. I can never remember to use magnesis to check for that stuff.

If you're playing on the Switch you can just make another profile and get a save file that way. Instead of just 3, it's one for each Switch profile.

This is a problem with open world games in general, due to how long it takes to finish them. I'll probably spend 150 hours with this game before it's all over, but once I'm done, I may never come back, outside of the DLC. I've played the original Zelda (my favorite game of all time) 25+ times to completion, but I'd be surprised if all my playthroughs combined add up to the amount of time I'll be spending in BotW.

Can you climb them with one though?

Yep. Smack him before you get on his back.
