I love Colin but he was clearly the odd man out and wanting something else/more. Best wishes. Can't wait to see what he does next.

I'll never get people who saw most of his (political) arguments as anything more than sophomoric. Anything more than undergrad-level analysis. There are truly brilliant writers and thinkers out there. Heck, there are a handful of them in the Games Press, too.

Is the bar for conservative thinking in the games press really this low? Idk, man.

Look at the people running the US right now, the bar for actual elected representatives is an inch off the ground, never mind pundits and shitkickers.

It's low because there really isn't anyone else. I mean can you think of another gaming personality in the press that's conservative? So he really was the only one. And when you're the only one doing something then it really doesn't matter how good or bad you're at it.

Colin has repeatedly shown himself to be incapable of being a decent human with basic social skills like etiquette, empathy, sympathy, or self awareness. It's not surprising that he cannot take any type of criticism directed at him without stooping to the lowest common denominator (it was a joke guys! anyone who doesn't think it's a joke is a humorless shit bag!). The industry will be better off without someone like him around. This is completely aside from the fact that he barely contributed to meaningful discussions in the past few months, but whatever. I feel bad for whoever has to work with him next because if your own friends can't tolerate your shit in a company you started together that says a lot about that person.

Do you know Colin in irl? It's weird how easy it is for some to judge the worth of a person based on tweets and a games podcast.

Based on Colin's last couple tweets he just posted it looks like he's gonna go off the deep end.

He's with his people now. Just look at his recent follows and who he really aligns with like Christina H. Sommers, the "fact feminist" who's not really much of a feminist and always says things like boys will be boys.

Sad to see him leave, he was one of the best of the 4 man team. I'll give him a listen wherever he turns up next. Now the question is do they fill the 4th chair or leave it open?

He's embracing his destiny and going for that sweet, sweet right-wing media cash. Like other people said, Breitbart needs a tech editor and bold truth-teller.

Recent follows like Chuck Todd, Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough? If that's the game we're playing.

No thanks.. he's right about "journalism"... how many times does copy pasting a press release count as the extent of "journalism" He's dead right that only a handful of people actually do real work like Jason Schreier.

why are you crucifying the gaming press when his issue was with the ibtimes article?

So, exactly what press release did Destructoid copy in their article about Moriarty?

cmon man. not all journalism is investigative journalism

cmon man. not all journalism is investigative journalism

No, and I totally agree it isn't. But they all just regurgitate the same stuff... And there's other forms of writing as well, not just investigative. There's no money to be made in that sort of long gestating stuff either.

That's not what I'm talking about. I was replying to the post about Colin declaring "real journalism" is dying...

that's what he's talking about. the ibtimes article. so your "fuck the gaming press" seems completely misplaced, especially when you consider places like kotaku and ploygon got the headline right.

Twitter has become the extension of a persons "Id" nowadays, an unfiltered portrayal of the real thoughts and beliefs scurrying about under the surface that they can say through a keyboard rather than express physically or in public.

You cannot separate a person from their actions or words when it's someone you "admire" or "enjoy".

He is exactly who he presents himself as and this notion of not holding him accountable for his own words and deeds is.....supremely baffling.

It's weird, and Greg mentioned this too, that he's made way more offensive jokes on podcasts and stuff... but it's always followed with a laugh or something to make it known he's joking around.

Can we stop with this Libertarian nonsense. You're a Republican, deal with it. Fiscal conservatism is a financial stance that royally fucks over the same group of perople often fucked over by social conservatism as well.

What are you talking about... fam, I replied to this link:

"No thanks.. he's right about "journalism"... how many times does copy pasting a press release count as the extent of "journalism" He's dead right that only a handful of people actually do real work like Jason Schreier."

this is all about video games journalism

not the "real journalism" he purports is dying.

So, you feel like you know Colin well enough to judge his worth as human being based on tweets and podcasts? Yoinks.

Honestly I'm not surprised that people take things so offensively these days. It's sad though that someone can't make a joke or even just make comments that are unagreeable. If you don't like it that's fine don't listen, subscribe, etc. instead we get a bunch of babies that have to let it be known why something someone else said isn't ok. No one cares, and you really don't have a voice beyond the loud small group of babies that have learned to point fingers and make it a daily adventure to find something to be offended about. We've all said things jokingly or even ignorantly and if someone came right back at you like you love to do you'd hate it and think it's unwarranted. It's easy to offended, and go on and on about how horrible someone is. That's easy and immature. Grow up, shut up, and no not everyone that disagrees with you is hitler, a nazi, a racist, anti LGBT and whatever other letters you decide to add every week.

you seem to care. you also seem rather offended.

If someone has made enough actions that cross some lines with you, and that person keeps doing it you have every right to judge and drop them.

But hey, some of Colin's peers who do actually know him well are dropping him.

You're kind of all over the place with this lol

I presume this sentiment also extends to the people who get dogpiled by Colin's lackeys for daring to express their opinions about him?

People aren't necessarily offended by isolated comments, they're offended by regular acts of spite that he tries to pass off as humour and by his refusal to acknowledge his own actions as inflammatory.

So, you feel like you know Colin well enough to judge his worth as human being based on tweets and podcasts? Yoinks.

What exactly is your angle here? I dont go around judging peoples "Worth" as anything for any reason or...have any desire to.

What is "Judging worth" supposed to even mean?

Im judging a man on his actions and so far he's shown himself to be an utter ass, who refuses to acknowledge any criticisms against him. The man is quick to talk shit and falls back on his mob of ass licking fans to comfort him when he cant offer a proper well educated rebuttal.

Nope just throwing in my thoughts.

Also. The difference is that with humor there is a sense of warmth to it... like this person doesn't believe the things they say or they are trying to point out the absurdity of it. When you say what you mean exactly and try to pass it off as a joke you're not doing it right. It's why a lot of right leaning comedy just comes off as an echo chamber of meanness.

The utter hysteria and outrage from people protesting "outrage culture" is truly profound.

The very important takeaway, for me, has always been that Colin seems to think a lot of people are beneath him, especially those who disagree with him. I don't like that people like Colin have been given such a high platform from which to look down on others.

There are far more deserving people in this industry, with a genuine love and passion for the medium, who can also show respect for others without an ounce of cynicism, regardless of personal biases.

That person is not Colin Moriarty.

So we shouldn't hold anyone we don't personally know accountable for their actions? Can you not see how stupid that sounds?

Eeey... wait a second Sir. I didn't mean that you have to agree with them, or cannot have productive arguments against them.

My point was people's judgement is a very dangerous weapon, it can hurt people or even hurt yourself. It is very wise to learn more about the subject before passing your judgement.

I know it's hard because I sometimes unintentionally do that.

You're making it seem like all Destructoid did was republish a press release. Collating and reporting on facts is a completely valid form of journalism, and the only reason I can see for being dismissive toward it is because is because it's from a video game outlet.

I'm not even a Destructoid fan, I don't visit that site at all really, but to pretend that their article is just press release regurgitation and not "real" journalism is stupid.
